What fucking publication is that from?

You'd appreciate this Armybrat being from the bronze age ;)

csb/ years ago, when hyper-sensitivity was sweeping through campus...I innocuously said a few times in a lecture "you guys should know this" or "you guys should read up that."  And a student told me that "you guys" is an offensive term because it's gender exclusive.  I apologized and explained it's a term that I grew up with in Chicago and that my mother uses it to this day.  She said "that's no excuse, people from other generations use offensive terms and that doesn't make it okay."  So I tried to cool the tension and said, "May I just refer to you all as Ustedes instead?"  She said it's wrong of me to culturally appropriate other languages to deflect from the issue at hand. So in Spanish, I told her to take a look at this expedited entry card I have on me issued to me by the Mexican Consulate/SRE and that my mother is from Mexico and my first language is Spanish...don't let my name fool you.  We were both being assholes, to be honest.  And I think I was really hungover IIRC (8:00a section).  but eventually everybody had a laugh at something I said to defuse and we had a great set of presentations.

Don't get me wrong, some adjunct lecturer walks in with a double bourbon and a cigar and says, "Any of you broads or skirts know how to do math?"  I want my daughter to kick him in the nuts and report him to the Dean.  But a period at the end of a text or a handy catch-all term for the students?  Come the fuck on.  It's way less condescending than addressing them with my hands clutched like, "Now class, what is the difference between  recourse debt and non-recourse debt?"  I'm not some 1880's schoolmarm.  /csb

"Y'all" works just fine where I come from and every where I go.

Find an empty road and do a couple 60-0 hard stops.  That should do it.

You never want to do that.  That's how you get warped rotors.  Brake 60-5 and then let it roll out to dissipate the heat evenly.  A full stop traps the heat between the disks and rotors and warps them.

Thanks for reaching out.  We have not heard anything on our end about getting the re-release of Interstellar, but that doesn't necessarily mean we won't get it.  We usually recommend folks follow our social media accounts or sign up for the newsletter, as those are the first places we make film announcement.  Thanks!

  4. I just emailed the Bob Bullock Imax asking about when this might happen.  I saw Interstellar at the Imax when it came out.  It was the coolest movie I have ever seen on any screen.  The Zimmerman soundtrack was incredible.

Now would be a good time to read Kip Thorne's book.

  5. I hate this thread so much.  I got into a fight with my 14yo son Friday night.  Nothing malicous, just a sparring fight.  I pulled my punches but he didn't.  I think I have a broken rib.

I was getting tired, so I worked him into the fence.  He didn't like being cornered.    He was so happy to get out of that corner, he didn't realize I was working him toward the pool.  PUSH!  SPLASH!

    My ribs hurt.

What the fuck?  I'm pretty smart, but I have zero knowledge on this thing.

For fixed-bed hydrocracking units, proper feedstock preparation is necessary to minimize catalyst poisoning and give high yields and a long catalyst life. Many hydrocracking units use a hydrotreating reactor before the hydrocracking reactors to convert organic sulfur and nitrogen compounds to hydrogen sulfide and ammonia to prevent reduction of hydrocracking catalyst activity and deterioration of yield structure. During a run, the reactor temperatures are gradually increased to maintain a constant severity of operation (constant degree of sulfur or nitrogen removal or constant conversion level). Increasing the reaction temperature increases the cracking rates faster than the hydrogenation rates, and more of the feed is cracked to gases and coke. This results in lower yields of desirable products and less profitable operations.

There she is. Very pleased, originally purchased in 2006, looks like it’s been worn maybe a dozen times.

For anyone else wondering that hasn't seen that watch before, this is how you tell the time with it (it's actually quite clever and efficient):

That’s pretty awesome. Kind of Star Trek executive from the top. Cool side readout.

i'm probably way behind on this one, i don't know how many years ago it was released...but the World War II series is incredible, primarily because the footage is absolutely astounding! 😮 we ended up watching sort of in preparation for a WWII site-seeing trip to Germany and France we've got planned with my dad in a few months. i have never seen footage this extensive, plus they colorized a lot of it, so it's just mind-blowing. i'm legit shocked that this much footage even exists!

    anyways...it's really, really good.
