  1. Today will be the first time (since the formation of the Big 12) that I haven't been in Manhattan for a UT game. If we win, I guess you can blame me for our 20 years of suck (although I WAS there to see us win in 2002, so it's not 100% my fault).

I can still remember my first trip to Rusty's in '98- the Shiner Bocks were $2 and we drank ALL of them. And for some reason, Jackyl was playing outside as a street party. Sadly, I saw no chainsaws. Hey, that was Major's first start! Fuck I'm old.

They earned their right to complain and claim the title. The cfb playoff system is a fraud.

I agree-- they can claim it all they want. I'm just saying that their claim would have a little more validity with a road win at a traditional power 5 team under their belts.

  3. You know what drives me nuts about UCF claiming a title last year? They were actually supposed to play the Horns in Austin, but they asked us to push it back to 2023 (which was also recently cancelled when we scheduled Alabama). I know we were the definition of mediocre last year, but a road win against Texas certainly would have helped their playoff cause. I've never heard ANYONE mention the fact that they cost themselves a big potential resume boost.

  4. My 200+ consecutive game streak ended last year when my wife had a pregnancy scare the day I was supposed to fly to West Virginia. She was OK, and now I have an 8 week old who will be watching his first Horns game tomorrow from my lap in our basement. I'm a little sad not to be in D.C., but it's OK. I'll make all the home games this year and hopefully a couple roadies as well,  and of course I wouldn't miss OU for anything. Hook em!

  5. When we played in Manhattan in 2016, almost all of the fans we spoke to said that Snyder wouldn't retire again until his son became the next coach. They also said there was no way that the KSU administration would let the son take charge.

This is turning into one hell of a strand-off, but I'm just happy that Snyder is still here and well enough to coach. He may own the Horns on a regular basis, but he's one of the truly good guys in college football and the sport will suffer when he's gone.

  6. After the lengthy post-game parking lot celebration, we took the shuttle bus back to downtown Pasadena and then boarded the train for downtown.  We thought we were going straight to my friend's rented house in Long Beach, but unfortunately we misunderstood the service map and the train service ended in downtown. We left the station and were left wandering through a mostly-deserted downtown area with no idea how we were going to get home.

At that point, a police car pulled up next to us and he flashed his sirens. He got out of the car with his flashlight, and scanned us up and down. He then said the following:

"Excuse me, I need your assistance. We are currently searching for a dangerous perpetrator. He's a large African-American wearing burnt orange like you, and he just stole our national championship."

He wouldn't give us a ride, but he did tell us where we could catch a cab. It was expensive as hell, but none of us cared.

The next morning, I got up really early and bought seven different newspapers and some coffee. I read all of the sports pages on the deserted beach and finally understood the meaning of the word "zen."

  8. I was at a Sammy Hagar show (1984 at Reunion Arena I think) and Sammy totally lost his voice during "Swept Away." He tried to sing but it was gone, so he screamed, "Fuck it!" and they just finished the song with no vocals. He then asked the crowd if anyone knew the words to "Fast Times At Ridgemont High," and all of a sudden some kid was on stage singing it with Sammy and the band. Can't remember if the guy was any good because the crowd was so damn loud! After that, Marc Storace from Krokus (the opening act) came flying out on stage (I swear he leapt OVER the drum kit) and they finished the show playing Zeppelin and Who covers.

  9. I had a bone marrow transplant back in 1993, so I know what he's up against. Thankfully, those were the dark ages of leukemia treatment compared to what they can do today. Kick its ass, Andrew!
