  1. In 1980 I bought a 1960 Impala from the original - get this - little old lady that barely drove it - less than 80,000 miles. Everything original, never wrecked, not a dent, AC still worked FFS. Had that wrap-around rear window. Paid $400!. I rue the day I sold it - had it for a few years. I was a full-time doc student on 1/2-time TA pay - needed every penny. Sold it for $600. Fuck me.

Could have been mine - same colors, hub caps. 💔

Rooting around in my Photos app and rediscovered this one. Rufus, aged 8 or 9 then (rescued, shady past) 10 now, watches far too much TV. Hates that fucking emu, most dogs, all turtles and any reptile really. In real life he loves other dogs. Mr. Rufus is complicated. I digress; he HATES Wheel of Fortune with great passion. Every damn day beginning around 6:00 PM he gets agitated, grumbling, barking a bit randomly, preparing himself for 6:30. He's usually laser focused on what's being prepared for dinner but springs to action with the first sound of music. If he's too focused he sure as shit breaks when the announcer's voice comes on. I suspect he hates Pat Sajack the most, Sajack and the triple tossup graphic.

Nuts! I thought I had uploaded the video. A shame y'all did not get to see him in full attack.

Every day I take my dog to the park. Here in El Paso, unless you want to water every day or have Astro turf, yards pretty much suck, so we go to the park every day. Anyway, last Saturday I noticed a dog on my way there, on my way back, dog is still there. She must have been dumped, she's scared and lives under a couch on the side of a road. Since then I have been feeding her and trying to get the city to pick her up. They came out Thursday I guess and couldn't find her, so I made a new case.( El paso is no kill).

Work keeps me from home, I haven't seen my family since Christmas, going home on the 14th to see my 80 year old mother and take in the Texas/Wyoming game with my brother. What I hope happens, is that the city gets her, when I get back, if she hasn't found a good home, I'll take her. I can tell she's a sweet dog, when I drive up now she comes out of hiding, wagging her tal, glad to see me. She still won't let me touch her, but yesterday she put her sniffer on me. So I'm close.

People suck, but we have to live with them. Pit mix.

    Any more on her?

    BBQ

Everybody seemed to enjoy it.  Brisket was a very pleasant surprise, from ends to fatty cuts.  Was really impressed.  Sausage was very forgettable though, probably should have gone with turkey instead.  Sides were fantastic actually, didn't see that coming.  They gave the non-profit a really good deal so would advise again on using them given their budget (they can't do a higher-end place, just won't work economically).  Open bar probably helped folks eat more with smiles on their face.

In a weird way, I've been craving Rudy's lately.  We used to take the girls there after church sometimes before Covid.  I guess that's why, and now that we're back to service, volunteer, sunday school, and then lunch.  We should get that back in the mix.  Obviously, it's nowhere near the best Austin has to offer, but it's right down the street from my wife's church and they like the outside play area when the weather is nice.

For the KU game, McCombs is doing their annual alumni BBQ.  And every year, despite so many UT connections to so many great BBQ joints either as owner/operator/investor/etc., they somehow manage to get the shittiest BBQ available in Texas.  Like Bill Miller bad, only 3x the cost.  I'll never understand that.

Good to hear. Sounds like they didn't skimp on the catering. I do get sausage as my second meat when we get it delivered - gotta always have sausage. Love the potato salad. The Arbor Walk location is only a couple miles away so arrives plenty warm. Besides the dinners I also get some chopped for lunches and a package or two of different sausages - hot & garlic. Love sausage.

Rudy's is close, too, and used to get it often until Southside opened. Huge tip: use Rudy's beans for nachos.

That last about Q choice for the alumni? Ridiculous.

    BBQ

Just saw this so too late to advise.

    How was it?

It's good enough for us for home delivery, avail ourselves every four or five weeks, and are quite satisfied. Other options are Pok-e-Jo's, Rudy's, Smokey Mo's so Southside wins out, excepting when I'm craving some fried okra and the wife grilled veggies (both Pok-e-Jo's).
