  1. I can see Sark formulating the plan now.  Start Card to keep him from transferring. Card lights up a pushover ULM squad game 1, then shits the bed against Bama……enter Super Quinn without the potential confidence-squelching Quinn might incur facing Bama in his 1st or 2nd start.

Didn't ou go 7-5 in 1999 and then win the national title the next year? I think we will do the same, except we were like 5-7 so maybe we will go 10-2. So yeah, 10-2 or maybe 9-3.

I went to UT 94’ thru 99’.  OU was considered a secondary rival to A&M the whole time due to OU being down and A&M having contended in the early 90s. Then, like the previous poster alluded to, OU shocked the world seemingly out of nowhere in 2000, and from that point forward The Texas-OU game became THE game.

Got a couple notes from my sources that don't warrant their own thread so I'll throw them in here.

Coburn was playing with the 3s a lot yesterday.

Billingsley is looking really good and will be a dangerous weapon. Helm's blocking has been really good as well. And of course Sanders is going to be a stud.

QB is in a lot better shape overall than last year at this time. Card has made big strides with the deep ball, has been throwing some dimes, and is running a little ahead of Ewers going into scrimmage

Have you seen Card throwing them bombs?…..

just thinking of a player that was better in the NFL, than as a Longhorn. Wasnt in anyway a knock on Phillips.

It felt to me like Geoff Swaim barely caught anything at Texas so I was surprised to see him stick in the NFL for awhile.  And sticking with the TE position, Jermichael Finley was decent at Texas, but ended up being one of the best at his position his short time in the NFL

So Fox gets tier 1 choices like Ohio State for Big Noon and whenever USC goes to a decent opponent. Crap games on FS1. CBS gets a tier 2 at 2:30 and NBC gets a primetime tier 2 game while probably trading Fox for a game every now and then.

I assume the “S” in “SBJ” stands for “super”?  I could go for an SBJ right about now…..

Quinn can’t get separation from Card and fucking Coburn is our best pass rusher? Fuck me with a spoon

It’s not even about camp reports for me.  It’s about more than a decade of mediocrity at best, and every preseason with the same unfounded optimism.  If ‘The Who’ wrote the story it would be entitled “I won’t get fooled again, again, again……..again, again, again….. again………again”. Show me on the field in October/November.  Til’ then you’re the program that lost to Kansas at home after the abysmal KU football program had lost 56 straight road games in conference.  Earn it

I’m hearing from team sources that Chip Brown might be a cock gobbler.  One source told me, “Point blank, he never turns down a chance to eat a big bag. It’s like clockwork. “.  We’ll keep you posted.

Lose the “L” and you’d achieve Surly Level ‘Perfection’

I don’t think it’s right to call OSU and ISU leeches and I don’t think it’s right to say Texas and OU have a similar decision to make as Ohio St and Mich in remaining in their conference.

Oklahoma State has most definitely exceeded “leech” in terms of rank and status, but Iowa State?…………

The Pac 12 adding SDSU and Fresno State is the Big 12 equivalent of adding TCU and WVU. Bold strategy.

West Virginia is significantly above any of these programs in prestige. The rest are historically small programs that have had decent run recently. TCU’s run came on the back of Gary Patterson who’s gone now, and it will be interesting to see where this program goes without him.

This is funny.  It WAS a Tuesday.

"...Those of us who follow college sports in general, and the Pac-12 in particular, are therefore on the lookout for any signs that the Pac-12 is going to be raided to the brink of extinction.

For a few seconds on Tuesday, I thought that moment had happened.

Texas Tech fans, in large numbers and with rapid-fire regularity, were tweeting cactus emojis. Surely this meant that Arizona and Arizona State were either headed for the Big 12 or were close to coming to the Big 12.

    Right?

    Wrong...."

Somehow the cactus was making fun of TCU.  Nothing about Arizona.

Cactus emojis (some might say "Cacti") must be the Squid emoji of 2022.  Party on......

  11. When it comes to realignment, most of the time things feel imminently not imminent so when I see all these Pac 12, Big 12 moves rumored to occur, possibly even later today, I definitely take them with a grain of salt, but I'll outright call BS on any rumor that the Pac 12 is seriously considering Fresno State as a USC/UCLA replacement.  To loosely quote the king in "Braveheart" on sending his weakling son to negotiate with William Wallace, "The mere sight of Fresno State would only encourage an enemy to take over the whole conference".

If I was those 4 and my options were to either wait on the Pac12 tv deal, in which UW and OU are dictating what is happening, or make an early move to protect myself, I do the latter.

There are no friends in conference realignment. You are beholden only to be longterm good of your institution.

Yeah, the real question is whether the conference they are petitioning wants to add them now or play wait and see on other options (such as NoCal & The Pacific NW). Everyone’s playing chess and the wrong move could lead to your own checkmate so move well

    "right now"

Honestly, who gives a shit what any Pac 12 university says right now.  The Pac 12 is in the process of receiving a valuation of their broadcasting worth post- USC, UCLA defections.  And once the schools receive that valuation, say in a month, then they’ll know how much less each school will make remaining in the Pac 12 vs The Big Ten and SEC and that’s when we might get some idea of each school’s true intentions

ND's football isn't included in the GoR, they have some agreement that they can't join another conference if its not the ACC, but they can likely buy that out.   Worst case they don't get Olympic payments, which I think is like $7m a year.   Their market value is astronomical compared to any move to date and no one left in the ACC comes close.   In short, if ND wants to move, there really isn't anything keeping them from moving that matters, unlike everyone else.

As for the rest, the SEC doesn't need FSU/Miami/Clemson.   They don't add more value when you have Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina already, and you get to the point where you have too much content.  The only upside for the SEC is Texas/OU aren't a part of the SEC Network, so they could slot in two more teams there, but they don't get much more in affiliate fees for that move.

Now, if you could get rid of Vandy or Mississippi State and Bring in Clemson or FSU to replace...maybe.   Otherwise there's no equal value left.

I believe that Florida & South Carolina don’t want Florida State, Miami, & Clemson in the SEC.  However, I do not believe that adding one or all of those schools would not increase what the SEC could demand for broadcasting rights.  Agree with you on contraction though many think it’s not going to happen, but I wouldn’t necessarily be looking to contract Mississippi State, but Vandy?……oh yeah.  But I personally might explore cutting Mizzou or Kentucky before I’d drop the guillotine on Mississippi State.

This article is behind The Athletic's paywall. A little help?

Kind of what I expected, though Washington State surprised me.  For all the Iowa State talk on this board lately, interesting to see how low they rank in terms of eyeballs and the number of remaining Big XII teams they rank behind in terms of eyeballs including ones I wouldn’t have thought such as TCU
