  1. Do you guys stay on the mountain or in town?

IMO they are both fine options based on how the town is set up, just depends on your traveling crew details. There is a free bus that loops between the town and mountain and is like a 5-10 minute drive depending on stops. It gets a little sleepy on the mountain at night and there’s way more bars and restaurants in town.

So either enjoy ski in/out’ish on the mountain and bus it into town for dinner, or enjoy the town offerings for happy hours / dinners / shops and bus up and back to ski.

Literally can’t go wrong. If you’ve never done CB a rental house in town steps from a bus stop and walkable to elk avenue is probably ideal. But if you have a crew of younger kids (where gear and getting to the slopes can be a beating) then something on the mountain may be better.

There are a couple mountain neighborhoods away from the main base that are a bit out of the way which would be my third choice, but not a bad one.
  2. Lot of folks here with Pfizer earlier this year are doing Moderna booster.  Is that the best game plan for somebody who had Pfizer earlier this year?  I’m at 2,500+ on the Texas CARES study.  Want to get a booster in next few weeks.

I can’t speak to Pfizer/Moderna combo, but 2500 is super high. I scored like 750 in mid December after second Moderna in April and was scheduled for a booster this week but the Chron beat me to it. My only question is how/if a booster helps someone already at 2500.
  3. This is the best answer for the Southern Rockies...CO, NM whatever, doesn't matter.  Find a resort with elevation and you are going to always be better off...especially in Spring.  For example, Taos is one of the highest elevation ski resorts in the Lower 48 - the base area starts at 9200' asl and goes up from there -you are skiing at 11,500 at top of Chair 4 and over 12,400  at Kachina Peak and Taos' mostly north facing slopes are legendary for preserving powder for weeks at high elevation after a big dump and late in the season - most other lower elevation resorts (Angel Fire, Red River, etc) cannot preserve it that well...and you have to be an above average skier to ski most of the these resorts and their good stuff the later the season gets. That is why I am always baffled why a beginner or once a year skier that is at intermediate level worries about snow conditions - I mean really, nuancing the groomed bunny slopes and green/blues is kinda funny...My advice for beginners and once a year intermediates is to focus on the the ski area that has everything else you want...budget, fancy, restaurants, extra curricular activities, etc. because trying to pick a resort and what snow conditions will be there in March is a crap shoot and you just might get lucky and have it all...

This is really good advice for a beginner family. Angel Fire with good snow is more than enough terrain for first timers, but the town is very sleepy and there isn’t much of a base/lodge. Depending on age of kids, budget, and interest you could drive an extra 3’ish hours to Breckenridge (or many others off I70) or Crested Butte and experience a ski town that pales in comparison.

  4. So we have to remind folks not only to wash their hands but also to quarantine when their sick? I guess I'm an idiot for thinking this was already a thing (except for women who I hear have very low hand-washing compliance).

Pretty sure you are referring to me, so fuck off you illiterate cunt, if not, have a delightful evening.
  5. I'm not against testing at all just not sure why in limited testing environments you need to use a test if you have a 102+ degree fever to make it clear not to hang out with anybody.  The 102 degree fever is a pretty clear sign that Covid or anything else it's not in your best interest or those who would be around you to socialize.   You don't need to HAVE Covid for it not to be a good idea to go out in the world with a 102+ degree fever.
I mean honestly you are kind of a bad example, if you were getting to 103 or worse that is probably the kind of fever that med folks would tell you to get checked out anyway.

For fucks sake, I’m saying covid gave me a 102 fever, but could do much worse to my elderly parents if they caught it. Therefore a test helps. No plans to socialize or kiss memaw while I had a fever.

If people can’t find tests, there is no fucking way we wait TEN days before going back into the public after having a fever for ~24 hours.

  6. Why test? For me it starts with knowing how my medical situation affects those around me. You know wife, kids, parents, coworkers, strangers at the grocery, etc. To know if I have a cold, or allergies, or the flu versus covid is a big deal. I had a 102+ fever and chills, but passing covid to my old vaxxed parents could have a worse result.

Unless the objective is to get as many people sick as possible to get herd immunity, I don’t think there are tools other than vaccines or testing to get society back to normal.

  7. Two rounds of Pfizer here, no booster, but started getting symptoms on Thursday night, feverish, body aches and freezing cold.  Couldn't sleep.  Had plans to get a hair cut and drive down to Austin to see the parents for Christmas, but that wasn't going to happen.  Didn't want to make them sick, they aren't vaccinated and were both hospitalized this past April for Covid.
Christmas Eve day, no more aches, but lots of sinus pressure and a sore throat.  Come to find out my friend from work had the exact same symptoms almost exact time as me.  He seemed to have worse symptoms, higher fever, cough and sore throat.  He tried to get a test around Houston town but no luck.
Christmas day, felt better, nose started to drain, no more fatigue, just mild cold symptoms.
Today, I ventured out to get a test to see what this shit is, after a fiasco with Harris Public Health in Aldine, I got a Rapid and PCR test down by NRG.  My friend from work gave me this location and he was about an hour ahead of me.
My friend was in line about an hour before me, and he got a negative rapid test.  I popped positive on rapid.  We'll both get our PCR tests in a few days to see what the real results are I guess.

Similar symptoms here. Tested positive today, but had only taken ibuprofen this morning and hadn’t gotten over 99 temp. I’m over the hump in like 24 hours after peaking at 102 last night. Team Moderna made this no big deal.

The lack of testing is a massive shitshow. Thinking it would take like an hour, I waited four fucking hours today after scouring all Austin options.

  8. A little off topic, but doing a remodel and will be out of the house for several months. thinking of renting in Colorado for the summer. Any recs on best towns/areas to make the most of summer mountain activities?

  9. I am well on record with respect to my thoughts concerning the UT coach. We shouldn't have fired Herman when we did, but Eltife insisted on it. Had we been more thoughtful, we would have looked at which coach we really wanted and held on to Herman until we had a deal done with the right coach.
However, egos dominated and it became imperative that Herman be fired. At that point, we were forced to choose from a relatively unattractive list of options.
Now that it is becoming more obvious by the day that Sarkisian isn't the answer, egos again are the paramount consideration and the idiot who precipitated this clusterfuck has to have his ego fed, once again, so we go around blaming the kids, the fans, the weather, and every other scapegoat to avoid mentioning fucking Eltife doesn't know shit about hiring or firing college football coaches. Not only should he not be unilaterally making the decisions, he shouldn't be allowed in the room when the subject is being discussed.
The problem isn't necessarily Sarkisian. The problem is Hartzell doesn't have the balls to tell Eltife to stay in his fucking lane. Hartzell is a lot of things, but he ain't no Bill Powers.

Don’t get me wrong as I’ve always had a weird draw to your astronomical aggy hate, but didn’t you become a viral national hit proclaiming you were done with UT football?
