Maybe. Maybe not. Cignetti isn’t working here or elsewhere anytime soon so I don’t particularly care.

So you don't think it's relevant to compare what the competition is able to achieve with far less resources than Texas has? I think it's certainly worth considering, no?

We have 3 weeks until a pretty unserious game vs playoff teams having potentially multiple real games during that span. I don’t think we are going to be game planning to the point that we can’t work the portal during that time. Seems like a non issue.

Or he could do like other coaches did and coach for the playoffs AND recruit the fuck out ot the portal. He chose to just prepare for playoffs and he chose to not make the playoffs this year with his lack of preparation for the season

Serious question. Has anyone else started to lose confidence that Sark can develop and get the same effort from our 5-star players and top-portal transfers that Cignetti seems to get from his 0-star players?

With the playoff expansion almost certain for next season, the end of the bowl season as we know it is in progress.

A few  like the Citrus, Alamo, etc might be kept around and added to  existing bowls in the playoff brackets depending if we go 16 or 24.   But I’m thinking the AD’s kind of like the concept where the  first rounds are awarded to the team in higher seeds for a home game and with an expansion that might push that to a second round too.

    I agree with this.

Fans are also adapting, and will stop being mad at schools and players that identify that the costs of participating in these increasingly pointless and irrelevant exhibition events are greater than the benefits.

The only way to incorporate the bowls is thru the playoffs. And play in to the playoffs. We would all be excited as fuck to play in the Cheez It play in  bowl vs Michigan to make the playoffs, ya know? I mean what the Reliaquest bowl PLAY IN bowl between Iowa and Vandy is way cooler. Or Duke playing into  the playoffs whoever the fuck Mayo Bowl play in. You can still have the corporate shit. But of the remaining bowls the best two are Cheez It and Pop Tarts. Still those would go to the highest seeded play in teams I guess? I see your point but the bowl names have to be tied into the fucking playoffs somehow.

I should specified non-playoff related bowl games. The market is over saturated w them and the ratings for so many of them are not good.

  5. I think the value of having your school attend a meaningless bowl game is slipping below the drawbacks.

More and more marquee teams will opt out.

More and more recognizable players will opt out.

The college playoffs will continue to expand.

Since the bowls have passed their relevancy, they will die, just as the runner-up game for the NFL championship game died in the late sixties.

  6. Three ways Texas can still make the 2025 College Football playoffs:

    1. Form an alliance with Diego Pavia and play a game vs Vandy on Thursday. Win with such an impressive margin that the committee convenes an emergency meeting and bumps Miami out of their slot.

    2. Book the James Madison team and coaches on Southern Airways Flight 932 from Stallings Field in Kinston, North Carolina, to Huntington Tri-State Airport/Milton J. Ferguson Field near Kenova and Ceredo. Tragically, the flight, once again, ends in a horrific crash and Texas is nominated to replace them in their game. Observe a moment of silence before kickoff. Submit a movie script to Netflix with all proceeds going to a survivor fund.

    3. Simply declare that we are participating in the playoff and play a game vs Notre Dame. If we win, we 'advance' ourselves to another game vs another overlooked team, and finally play in an unsanctioned national championship game. If we win, we add another championship. Many teams throughout college football history have declared themselves national champions, so this wouldn't be too unusual of a development.

    4. Pressure the Texas legislature to pass an emergency bill that requires Texas to participate in the playoffs or Tech and A&M are barred from participating.

I have no problem with players like Collin Simmons or even Arch not playing, but 15 practices for young players competing for a spot in the 2 deep + game reps are valuable.  Treat it like an Exhibition with #1 priority being development compared to winning the game.

I think that makes sense from a players and coaches  perspective, but I contend that giving a half-hearted effort in a meaningless game in front of a small group of fans with a lot of unknown players actually degrades the Texas brand. I admire Notre Dame's point-of-view.

These posters are not losers. I don’t hate them.

But damn man they are the reason we don’t have Cig as a HC and in year 5 of sark we are on the outside looking in.

This idea that we are too good for a Cig but Sark is the MAN is the fucking problem. All flash no substance is the fucking problem. All of us Not demanding fucking more from Sark who had ample money to do what Cig has done is the problem. sark phoned in the 2025 offseason and put basically put out C+ results. I highly highly doubt Cig would have had the 2025 offseason Sark had here. And I highly highly doubt he’d have neglected to plug the holes in the oline. Or missed junior day. Or canceled spring stuff. Or had NFL proven not to work practices. Cig isn’t perfect either. But it is the fans and the BMDs who think Cig wasn’t good enough: they are the fucking problem.

people should be demanding more from Sark this year. If y’all don’t think other ADs didn’t watch that game last night and shout “god damn” y’all crazy. Lots of people are looking at their very expensive HC’s this morning in a different way, to wit: why cannot you do that?

Everyone should be demanding a no excuses year 6 from sark, period. Especially after what we just witnessed last night. It can be done. Sark has a lot of talent. He knows how Bama was run and he beat a Saban led Bama squad but you got to GRIND day in and day out and find people to be in the trenches with you who want to grind with you. Not a bunch of stripper loving monkey having drinking wingmen whose focus isn’t solely making UT a dynasty.

I know QE’s injuries kept him from being a Mendoza like Heisman candidate but sark failed that guy with shit team management and failure to fix the OLine and shit RedZone play calling. He has NEXT year to turn this shit around so he don’t do the same damn thing to arch.

and thanks at @TreatyOak you were right about Quinn. I don’t want to see Arch get failed too bc Sark’s focus ain’t where it needs to be. we should fucking demand it from him or he can GTFO. He has all the money and support in the world to accomplish what Cig has year over year.

I think Cig is building a fucking dynasty at fucking Indiana. We should be demanding it of Sark. He can do better and he damn well should know it. We will see how it pans out for Cig but something tells me that he won’t go 5-7 next year or 8-4 or 9-3. Or on the outside of the playoffs looking in.

I love everyone. Even the people who hate me or have me on ignore and everyone who knows me as a poster should know this, people need to expect Cig like results out of Sark year over year. And if Sark wants to roll to the NFL 👋🏼 fine. We need to find someone who isn’t flashy. Doesn’t have slogans or is dressed by a fashionista. Go find a DKR type.

Post of the year. Everyone should email this post to CDC.

Sark as a HC has had a two “similar” seasons to Cig at Texas.

I don’t expect most coaches to achieve what Cig has in two years at Indiana. I think he’s a superior HC to most everyone including Sark. I am willing to concede the playoffs haven’t even started so we don’t have a bookend to Cig’s second season yet. Will he be in year 5 in a similar place to Sark?

Right now he is at the helm of an Undefeated, flipping Heisman candidate-led conference champion winning team with the number one seed in the playoffs and his team will be ranked number one in the country. Not many have achieved it.

    I recognize that.

We will never know if Cig would have gone 5-7 and then 8-4 in his first two seasons at Texas. We all know the politics are different here. Indiana had low expectations from an older awkward gentleman from the same Saban coaching tree as Sark. He is a unicorn. But he has brought a basketball school their only two 10 win seasons in their entire football program history. And this year he had them ready to beat the number one team in the country. Day and his expensive NFL coordinators (I’ve seen some Ohio state fans say they didn’t want to play in that bracket anyway and let Indiana win) were outcoached.

Fernando Mendoza said the players were a group of misfits. Process oriented misfits. The Saban process works.

sorry but Process oriented team culture to me sounds a hell of a lot better than all gas no breaks.

I don’t know what Cig could have done here had he been hired 5 years ago. He never would have been hired bc we don’t often know what the fuck we are doing (McWilliams, Mackovic, Strong and Herman)

But if 3 years Indiana still looks like this team right now it’s about the process. And Cig’s coaching.

And Sark’s process this year needs to be thrown into the fucking the waste basket. It’s possible to do what Cig has done if Sark focuses on his  job and delegates to coordinators and has regular offseason practices and makes process more important than a shit slogan.

As far as the personal attacks go, (and trust me idgaf) when people go personal it just is further proof I am and others are right about Sark and you Seven Win Steve worshiping pussies cannot handle it. Peace ✌️

Great post. You are nailing it. Ignore those losers. Keep up the good work and congrats on getting yourself back on track.

We were in the semi finals the year cig was hired by Indiana. Y’all just get mad at shit

No, people are mad cause in our biggest games, the team hasn’t played their best, or looks bad for one half, then makes a late run to save or almost win the game. Cignetti’s  team played consistently well vs Ohio State and Oregon. They aren't flashy five stars but they play hard and smart.

Happy for my Red Raider Family and friends.

It will forever be my belief that it’s largely Sark’s fault that we ain’t in the CFP. outside of the fact the committee is ridiculously atrocious.

I think his approach to the offseason impacted our wins and losses in the regular season.

I see that as the Truth

truth ain’t bad or good or bitter. He neglected the portal. It showed on the field. He went to stupid off season NFL style practices. They were ineffective. 75% of our games  were unwatchable. We played down to worse teams. It is my belief that We aren’t in the playoffs because Sark neglected to plug the holes he knew were on our offensive line and CHOSE NOT to have regular practices to so he could better evaluate our OLine and other positions. Or run 140 scripted plays in practice for our QBs.

but you think I’m bitter. I’m pissed that a head coach who has been one for 12 total years pissed away $30 million on this team this year.

Jerry McGuire focused on his team. The portal. The money he was given. The development. Regular practices and so on. Sark didn’t. It is that simple to me.

it’s not bitterness it’s acceptance. I don’t believe Sark is HIM.  I hope you and all the other sexist assholes on this site are right. I hope that Sark can be both HC and OC and stay on top of things the best coaches stay on top of. I hope we can win it all next year. I want to win it all.

Hate on me all you want. We aren’t in the playoffs bc of Sark.

Best and most accurate summation of the season. Only thing I would add is that the horrible Florida game somehow came off a bye week. Sark had a golden opportunity this season and let it slip away. Maybe next year will be better.

No offense but you picked college bball royalty the bluest of the bluebloods in college basketball to prove your point. They choose their bball players. They don’t need to sell anything or try and market their program. The best players will go there regardless. I bet their football games are gimmicky to try and recruit and sell to new fans if they can get it.

True, but I already mentioned that I experienced the same level of college greatness at a Purdue game. They're hardly top-tier, yet they haven't debased their game experience the way other schools including Texas have, where it's sell, sell, sell.

OU doesn't have the money to do the shit we do, and when half the crowd is hopped up on meth you gotta keep a good eye on keeping them from getting overstimulated, which Venables offense compliments nicely.  I got no idea what Notre Dame does, but Jesus and shit.

I recently went to a Duke basketball game. It was a pure college sports experience. There wasn't a cacophony of promos, giveaways, sponsorships, shitty popular songs, etc. It was all about the students, the game, the school, the traditions, etc.

So I guess someone should inform them that they need to lower their experience to a cheap, generic, gimmicky shlock of marketing crap to attract the kids.

All of you so hooked Longhorn football that you have thousands of posts on this board, go to games etc don't seem to understand that game production isn't meant for you.  You're already so jonesing for your next fix that they don't need to waste time on your addicted ass.   It's meant for the 18-34 demographic and the casual fan checking things out and it's meant to move them from where they are today to being a 55 year old curled up on the floor in a fetal position in mid July because the next 6 weeks seems so far to go and you got the shakes real bad.  The 18-34 demographic loves all that shit.  It's called marketing....yea it sucks at times.  It isn't changing.

Okay, but how come other major programs, like OU and Notre Dame haven't turned their game experience into Hannah Montana and somehow, they manage to keep the seats full year after year? Could it be that true fans of all ages don't need to be entertained like they are watching Disney+?

I know lots of 20's Longhorn fans through my daughters and my interns, (no pics for you degenerate bastards) and I have yet to hear one of them ask for more mariachi music or more 'find the ball' games on the scoreboard.

100% yes.  No team has ever subverted their own home-field advantage like we do.  We win home games *despite* the non-stop effort of the jumbotron to distract and silence the home crowd.

We do sooooooooo much dumb shit to take 200,000 eyes off the field, and tranform the audience into passive consumers watching fucking commercials during a game.  It's awful.  I cannot count how many times we're in a 1-score game in the 4th quarter, and trying to get a critical 3rd-down stop on defense... so we BLAST a lip-sync contest or a Foot Locker "follow the hidden ball" dumb shit, or we try to make "who wants a t-shirt" happen.  It's just monumentally stupid.  Idiocracy stupid.

    This 1,000%.

In the fourth quarter of the Clemson game, when the momentum has swung to them, nothing fires up our defense like playing the "Which horse will win the race? game on the Jumbotron.

The Portland Trailblazers used to employ an actually very funny use of music. Whenever their team was hit by a questionable call or foul, they would play the theme from "The Twilight Zone," haha.

I won't bother posting the video, which is unwatchable.

His premise is that Ohio State's loss last year propelled them to the championship and A&M can do the same. Right.

Yeah, cause A&M and Ohio State programs have so much in common.

It’s all about recruiting - loud music relates to young adults for game environment. The same at bball games. If the recruits like it than the olds will have to deal with it. I’m an old sorta btw

The loudest game I've ever been to was when Texas visited Purdue in basketball. The deafening volume of noise was generated by the Purdue band and the fans, who did chants in unison throughout the game. They're currently ranked #1, so it works for them.

Edit: Apologies for derailing the thread. I'll get it back on track. You have to give A&M a break. They've been playing all season with a QB, who was the backup to Weigman, who was a backup to Max Johnson, who was a backup to Haynes King, who was a backup to Zach Calzada.

So I watched the replay of the game on sky view. Are the music between plays and the play by play announcer as annoying in person as they seem on that replay?

    I haven’t been to a game in a while.

Yes, it sucks. There is a cretin level of endless promotional crap being directed at the poor fans. Bits of popular songs are blasted throughout the timeouts. Plus, as mentioned, there is the dreaded mariachi band, giveaways, fun facts, quizzes and hated Bob Cole. It’s painful and they do the same shit during the basketball games. I’ve been to college games at other major schools and no one else I’ve seen piles on the crap the way UT does.
