I thought that was the central core of boat ownership?
It is and bitching about spending money on the boat is a close second.-

And cargo shorts instead of jorts. Those pockets come in handy.
I will point out that the gentleman looks a lot more like grandad than dad. It looks like grandad is helping out his hopelessly inept son-in-law by fixing his pathetic stairs while wondering how his daughter fell for this loser.
Bonus points for the belt mounted phone holster.-

Dad has too but sadly, as we sit with him here at the hospital, the next 36hrs may be his last. Thanks for posting that.-

Walk upstream - as far as you can with a water source to confirm it's not contaminated. Giardia isn't something you want to have to deal with and short of intense, long boiling, isn't always purified with filters, etc.
Carry a sleeve of micropur tablets instead of the filter straw for water purification backup.-

My grandma had one
Still use one on the second floor of our camp house. Heats up the space pretty good for an un-insulated one room open space.-

So, all this talk about serrations got me thinking about sharpening them. I had always kind of assumed you use a rod of appropriate diameter and run it in the "grooves" of the serrations themselves.
I only have two sporting knives with serrations, the above and a small Kabar USMC knife, which has the more traditional serrations near the hilt.
But it seems like the consensus is not to do that. Instead, you do the "back side" of the serrations at a very low angle and then deburr the serrations themselves. Both the above SAK and the Kabar have no or very little bevel on the obverse of the serrations.
My edc pocket knife is a Gerber EVO serrated. The rods in my Lansky turn box sharpener are barely larger than the groove and hit the high sides really well at the same angle as the original grind. As few passes in each groove and a couple more low angle on the back side and the serrated part gets really dangerous.

Abandoned Tesla Cybertruck Becomes Tourist Destination In Seattle
I went by there this evening on my way to dinner. The owner was outside and was not happy we were there. He said a kid hit his CT a few weeks ago and was still trying to figure out the insurance to get it fixed. He said people having been harassing him and his wife the past few days and he didn’t understand why. We told him his truck was all over Reddit and he got even madder. We left pretty quickly.
The commenter added that the Cybertruck’s owner apparently had no idea his truck was all over the internet. That’s gotta be a tough conversation to have with a stranger.
I suppose it’s impossible to know if this Cybertruck was actually involved in an accident or it just Did That itself, but either way, I feel like leaving it on the side a public road in a big city probably wasn’t the best move.
As I said before, someone even created a Google Maps pin of the CyberStruck, and people immediately flooded it with fake reviews, according to AutoEvolution. Unfortunately for all of us, Google seems to have deleted the entry, which is a damn shame.

If your mom is open to it, have her put you on the bank accounts as a joint-owner opposed to a POA. The funds will also be yours so you have an easier method to abide by her wishes, now and later.
We did this with dad’s accounts when mom passed. The POA terminates upon death and you will have to wait until you get a death certificate and letter of testamentary before you can do anything with the accounts. Also, fill out transfer on death/ beneficiary forms for any accounts (banking, investment, etc) that can pass outside of her estate unless moving to the trust takes care of this. -

Nice! What wrapper/dryer do you have? I replaced broken guides and re-wrapped them on 5 or 6 rods last year but haven’t even top coated with epoxy yet.

Absolutely freaking overestimation. Try it at your local middle school. You can’t do it.
Someone tune up the Uncle Rico competition thread.-

We switched our power back in March and built a spreadsheet with last 12 months of usage that broke down our bills by delivery charges, rate for 0-100kWh and 100+ kWh etc. Plugged in various current rates from the electricity providers in our area on PtC. Ended up with Gexa Eco Choice 24 at 8.42 c/kWh and $4.39/mth & 3.89 c/kWh delivery. This plan was slightly higher than our previous plan based in same monthly usage but would save $3-400 a year over any other new 12-24 month plan we could find for our area.
Same plan is currently 9.1c/kWh and same del fees. -
Awesome, thanks.
Curious. Why would you need an angle grinder?

That truck is bad ass. Late 70’s?
That’s a 67-72. The square bodies were 74 into the 80s. My first truck was a 65 step side with a 283 and dad had a 68 short bed fleet side, then a 78 short bed fleet side complete with tin roof camper shell. The 78 has been parked in the garage since 2009 but is about to see the light of day again.-

On the jointly owned property front, we are meeting this weekend to discuss increased property valuations from previous appraisals, talk about what portion of the land everyone would prefer to have and see if we can move forward with an amicable partition.
For @NAAL, our dads estate lawyer has recommended that, upon his death, we create an LLC with his assets and each of us 3 siblings have our own trust to own a share of that LLC. By waiting till his death, we should get a step up in cost basis of the separate land he currently owns and his partitioned portion. This is a big deal for us as his current cost basis is from 1959 and 1983 and parts of the land value have increased almost 10,000%. Having the land in an LLC also provides a level of separation from our personal assets and will be used to sell dads other asserts (house, other land, etc). We plan on keeping enough cash/liquid investments from dads estate in the LLC to pay for some improvements/operate the property for our and our children’s enjoyment.
We will also have a partition plan already in place if one of us siblings or our kids wish to have their own separate property or want to sell out.-

This is another guy from the Houston are who installed his generator in a plastic yard shed complete with exhaust fan, battery charger and extended exhaust. He has several videos on his channel with this one being an update after Beryl. Might be an option to consider if DIYing a quasi permanent generator install.

Went to post and you nailed it with the first post. Don’t know why anyone wouldn’t have soft starts installed, generator or not. So much smoother on the unit and something like $100 installed iirc.
If it’s only $100, then you’re not actually getting a soft starter. That would probably be an extra capacitor and dropout relay to help the start winding.
A true SS for a typical home AC will be $350-500+ and will have SCR circuitry to limit inrush current. That 5 ton AC that pulls 28a running might spike 65-70a or more during a normal across the line contactor startup. A good SS can reduce that down to 35-40a which is much nicer for smaller KW rating generators. MicroAir makes a popular SS for RV ACs and I noticed they have a SS for up to 6 ton home compressors.

At about 2:10, the upper left camera pans right to show hydraulic fluid spraying out of a telehandler (which is holding the PA system) while the boom retracts. That is a hose or fitting that has blown off or has been damaged. Wonder if a stray round hit a hose?

I’m pulling a Cuban and buying one of those Ryobi 18V inverters today. I have several of those batteries, and that could seriously come in handy in a jam, much less camping, etc.
Go ahead and grab a fan that fits your battery system too. I can run my Dewalt fan 8 hrs on a 5ah battery. Use it all the time camping and if I’m sitting outside in a chair.
