  1. 20-30 years ago, we knew more about other teams and players on those teams because we were forced to watch SportsCenter on loop just waiting for the 30 second highlight of our own team. Now you just follow your team(s) on apps with on demand video clips. ESPN’s attempts to fill the tv void with commentary have been a failure.

Brantley isn’t coming back. And if he does how brittle is he going to be? Release him, file the insurance and go find an outfielder who can hit.

How much insurance cash do they get on his $12m? Enough to buy Ohtani right? 😂

Looks like a nice chicken coop starter as well. Especially if chickens can navigate the climbing wall.

I thought the same thing. Throw up some posts and chicken wire, and invest about $10 in chicks from Callahans.

    Thor: adopted daughter
    Captain America: Old Falcon

    Black Panther: Sister
    Winter soldier: still kicking
    Vision: now White
    Scarlett Witch: Dead? Maybe? Agatha?
    Dr Strange: Still around/corrupted
    Spiderman: Forgot by all

    Shang Chi
    Moon knight
    Werewolf guy

People will eventually stop watching when the movies are comprised only of Marvel heroes’ kids, siblings, understudies, etc. It’s not worth it just to continue this universe’s storyline. They should finish this off quick, shift to X-men, then just reboot Avengers in a decade with a new, younger cast. They’re gonna need a new Spiderman too since making one movie a year for $10m and banging Zendaya has put Tom Holland’s mental health at stake and he needs a break.

I think part of it was they needed to spend 40-50 million to reach the cap floor. They didn’t have the roster space to add five players. They needed to spend that money on 2-3 guys and no long term deals. FVV is basically two years (overpay), and Brooks is only at $20/yr.

Plenty of contenders would trade for a + defender in a title run at only $20 mil a season. (If he doesn’t implode)

TLDR: They needed to spend a shit load of money, with very few roster spots to do so, and add players who both the team and player know is not part of the long term plan. Not sure that is a long list.

“Because they had to spend it” is lazy and not a reason to be wasteful. They had to spend around $40m to get to the salary cap floor, and FVV’s contract basically did that. If they wanted Dillon Brooks and had to overpay, that’s fine it’s just an unprovable argument of did they have to give him 4/$80m.

In two years, Green and Sengun need resigning. There’s a not small chance Dillon Brooks sucks by then and still has 2 yrs/$35m (? unknown descending value contract). The next year Smith and Eason need more money. The only cap room to sign a free agent will be FVV coming off the books.

Recap of the last couple days?

Rockets overpaid for second tier point guard Fred Van Vleet at tune of 3 yrs $130m. Had to overpay to get him but who knows if that much. At least third year is a team option. Hopefully he makes the offense better and helps develop the young guys.

Drastically overpaid for Dillon Brooks (4 yrs for $80m). Had to overpay, but probably could’ve got him for something closer to 3 yrs $50m. I thought we had like $60m in cap space to sign guys outright, but apparently did the Brooks deal as a sign and trade with Memphis so we will give up some assets. Hopefully his defense runs off on the young guys.

We did not offer to overpay enough to Brook Lopez and he resigned with Bucks for 2 yrs $48m. Confusing that we couldnt have overpaid Dillon Brooks quite as much and put a little more in the offer to Lopez. As some kind of backup plan, we signed a backup Aussie big man from the Suns.

We gave KJ Martin to the Clippers for two 2nd round picks.

We offloaded TyTy Washington and Garuba to the Hawks plus gave them two 2nd rounders and $1.1m cash for their trouble (received some euro dude’s rights who will never play in the NBA)

Rockets are part of some multi team trade that sent Patty Mills from Brooklyn to us then to OKC, and no word why we were even involved of what we give up or get back.

Everyone I've met who went there seemed alright.  Nothing like Aggy at all.  Very in line with ISU/KSU/OK State type folks.  Granted, I'm not a CU alum.

    No one is like Aggy.

I also have had generally favorable interactions with CSU folks similar to OKSt., KSU, and ISU. Fort Collins beer game is strong too.

The Rockets should have asked to be the third team in the Same trade and take on Herro instead of Brooks. At least he is young, 23, and has potential to get much better. He's also a good shooter, something Brooks is not, and likely will never be. 20m a year for a role player like him is garbage, and incredibly stupid to commit to that much.

Sounds great for Houston, except they signed Brooks for defense culture. If Herro + Robinson + picks from MIA wasn’t enough for Portland, if we took Herro out of a multi-team deal what would be inserted for more value than Herro? You think Portland wants KPJ and Tate more than they’d want Herro?

  10. This feels like another classic case of a Houston team bidding against themselves. FVV is top 3 of a bad FA class. He has been making $21M a year. Who out there was offering him close to $40M per year? Plus all the income tax savings that most professional athletes seem to ignore when picking or snubbing Texas teams.

At least it’s only two years. Hopefully none of the young guys get pissy and start locker room drama when FVV is pulling down over $40 and the 6 first round guys from the past 3 drafts make like $38M combined.

Exactly, those white kids have the opportunity to do better on the tests.  They take the courses, hire tutors, etc.  $$$$$$$ gives them the leg up.

Just reducing it down as "dumb black kid gets in over smart white kids for DiVerSitY" is some Uncle Ruckus bullshit.

Sure, those white kids, not all white kids. There are also wealthy, upper class, and upper middle class minority kids who have resources and can get coached up. It’s inaccurate to say all or most fringe-acceptance white kids accessed grandfather’s trust fund to get private SAT tutoring.

This Columbia concept of considering applicants’ economic status is intriguing because that is more relevant. Excludes the Carlton Bankses and gives consideration to rural, farm, and/or trailer trash kids who have the talent and want to level up.

  12. Green and Sengun’s rookie deals are over in two years, so they probably want maximum flexibility that offseason to sign FAs and extend those two, while still having Jabari Smith, Eason, Amen Thompson, and Whitmore on rookie deals.

  13. $42M/yr is steep for Van Vleet, but that might’ve been what it took (probably not because Stone is probably in the running with Caserio for stupidest negotiator as GM in Houston). That’s a huge bump for FVV when you factor in Canadian taxes vs no state income tax. He was probably the #1 free agent in ability to help this team win more games AND make other players better.

  14. Some mega pussies up in this vasectomy thread. The “no incision” or “no scalpel” thing is a marketing joke. They have to get inside your scrotum to cut the tubes. A scalpel makes a small, precise opening. Using sharp forceps to tear a hole open is technically not an incision and doesn’t use a scalpel, but it’s not less painful and could result in a larger or irregular wound/opening in the scrotum.

My doc did the cold spray to numb up the boys before a lidocaine stick, then you don’t feel anything except the thump like pressure when he actually severs and clips the tubes. I drove myself home (~20 mins). Rotated between 3 bags of frozen peas and carrots every 30-60 mins to keep constant cold for 24 hours. Rotated between Tylenol and ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Went trap shooting 48 hours after procedure with only mild discomfort.
