  1. Yesterday was the boy’s first time shooting a long gun.
Started with his Grandfather’s 10/22 and worked up to my AR. He’s a right handed shooter but is left eye dominant. Gonna take some patience getting him comfortable shooting.
Moved on to .22 revolver. He was really good with the pistol.

Tonight we are going to The Toadies for his first concert. He’s so excited.

  2. Well an eventful morning. A buddy texted at about 1015 and said he was getting in line. I’m like 10 minutes away on the train.
Not bad for a couple hours. OESF, Jack 10, and a Blanton’s pick. Stagg Jr,  Weller, and Eagle Rare picks were long gone.
Mysteriously out of the Russell’s Reserve and Kentucky Spirit picks.
A flipper in front of me passed on every single bottle. Great way to spend a morning.

    2 hrs for that?
    Hard pass.
  3. There’s about 50 at the Irving location.
And they are plugging in extension cords at a closed restaurant. Nothing like stealing electricity so you can camp out for 2 days. wtf?

  4. I bet there will be at least a thousand in Houston. The 2022 cart debacle and that shitty list should be deterrents, but plenty of people will roll the dice because they have a couple days off from work.

If memory serves from last year, first in line got an ORVW. Next 30 got BTAC. First 100 got Willett SiB.

I believe the first camper showed up 84 hours before the drop. The ORVW recipient wasn’t the first camper. She was a middle aged female. The first campers were young, bearded hobos. Make out that what you will. The ORVW was on Facebook before 11am.

I believe a guy got pinched in the parking lot for trying to sell BTAC to an undercover TABC agent either last year or 2021.

While waiting in line in 2021, I saw dozens of “hood shots” that ended up on Facebook.
Spec’s could give a shit because the lines bring attention to their store. If I had a dollar for every time some guy passing through asked the Russian at Smith if they had any Stagg Jr in the back, I could probably break even there.

That said, I think it’s a  business model. The guy asking for Stagg isn’t going to turn around and buy a Walking Stick pick. He’s just going to leave.

Good lord, you have way too much time on your hands if you knew all this.

The only thing that could get me remotely interested in hanging out overnight would be shooting the shit and wasting time with my degenerate whiskey friends if the weather was good.
But I’d much rather spend that time with my son while he’s on Xmas break and get some fishing in.
I for sure don’t need any bottle they have on this year’s weak ass offering.
    But to each their own.
  5. I did the Bonded tour this afternoon.  I deeply enjoyed the museum piece and walking through the ‘hollowed ground.’ I appreciated learning more about Jack’s story and I got a kick out of how much they emphasized his relationship with Uncle Nearest, as if it was Huck and Jim.  Maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t; but I enjoyed reading/ hearing about it just the same.
The tasting was Jack, Gentleman Jack, JD Bonded, JD BondedRye, and Triple Mash.

White Rabbit Bottle shop prices were above the retail I pay at home, and no Triple Mash was available. Ex: Single Barrel Barrel Proof Rye was $75.
Definitely recommend doing the tour, just as you did; but I was hoping for something unique or special on the tasting.

I was curious to what they offered for the tastings,
We went to do a barrel pick, so we didn’t do the regular tasting.
