Got about 25 NFL HOF's to sign a football at Michael Irvin's induction ceremony afterparty.  When I went up to get Mean Joe Green's signature, he obliged.  Then he smeared the marker from his fresh sig and ruined he and Bob Lilly's signatures beyond recognition, and thus ruined the whole ball.  It still sits in a case at my house (would never sell it anyway) but it pisses me off to no end every time I look at it.

that sounds accidental; did he do it intentionally?

I got ISS twice during my senior year at Clements (circa 1986-87) and I am white.  I am now pissed that I didn't get a strongly worded note in my 'permanent record'.  Where was my f'n white privilege?  Who do I need to contact?

Indian/Pak/Chinese - generally speaking. At least at Clements and Austin.

agree based on when my kids were at Clements.  Indian descent probably no 1 with Chinese 2 and Pak 3.

El Pollo Loco. A guy from work wanted to go there once so I tagged along. I knew nothing about the place or type of chicken served. The guy from work got what they called “regular” chicken which looked like a grilled leg quarter. They asked me if I wanted regular or bbq. I said bbq expecting to see a smoked leg quarter with dark crispy skin, instead they grabbed a “regular“ leg quarter and squirted about 2 cups of cheap bbq sauce all over it. I told them no thanks and left.

i like that place.   you just ordered stupidly

I like the "roadhouse spuds" at Bonedaddy's as a side when I make steak, and I usually make steak at home for Valentines Day.  So one time on Valentines Day, when it fell on a weekday, I decided to swing by Bonedaddy's on my way home from work and pick up the potatoes, then take them home and use them as a side for the steaks I'd be preparing.

Sadness is seeing the lonesome losers at Bonedaddy's on Valentines Day, waiting on their favorite waitresses or bartenders, with bouquets of roses and greeting cards.  I had no idea such a thing existed.  But sure enough, it does.

maybe the most depressing thing I've read in a while.  geez

anyone familiar with Williams Selyem wines?

pricey, but consistently good Sonoma area wines.  I like them better than Kosta Browne, they are a bit more restrained, in general, than KB.  that isn't anything you don't already know, though.   I haven't visited them but know people who have, say they do a great job on winery visits.

Last year I enjoyed a pretty good run by switching things up and just finding teams to bet against every week. The absolute dregs of college football, teams that usually didn't even come close to covering point spreads.

East Carolina was a shining example of this, especially early in the season.  UTEP and I think UCONN were other "winners" for me last year.

I know Oregon State is supposed to be dreadful, but I am expecting that most of the value is going to be sucked out of them since everyone is expecting them to be dogshit. Anyone else on your radar?

Obviously I shouldn't have to say this, but for any noobs on here, it had to be more than just a bad team. It has to be a team that's much worse than anybody expected, or a team that is just so dysfunctional and terrible that even Vegas doesn't have the right read on the depths of their suckitude.

Rice was awful last year.  I think they might be a candidate to be worse this year.  Talent isn't really improved and new and inexperienced coaches could lead to a poor first 4 or 5 games.  worth keeping an eye on.

I am, too. He’s been in a lot of pure crap, but also has starred in two of the best sports movies ever (Bull Durham and Field of Dreams), the greatest Texas movie of all time (Fandango), an underrated D.C. thriller (No Way Out), and a fantastic but admittedly self-indulgent Western epic (Dances With Wolves). Shit, I even loved that sappy as fuck For The Love Of The Game.

I’ll always give him a pass for Robin Hood.

I'd say For the Love of the Game is also a great sports movie.

I agree with that. Tired of the Jimmy Walkers coming in and spareing it up when the pressures on...

didn't Walker do okay with Fowler?  I can't recall.  but anyway, I like those young dudes in the match play type formats

    Webb Simpson

    Bryson DeChambeau

    Matt Kuchar

    Zach Johnson

i find all four of these guys incredibly annoying for a variety of reasons, hope none of them make it...

Webb Simpson an Matt Kuchar personify the US teams that were getting their ass kicked.  I'll take a young asshole like Bryson over those guys.

Same goes for TW. They won’t leave me the fuck alone. No, I don’t want to buy your Lazy River bourbon. Yes, I googled it and of course it’s made by you. Fuck you. Can I not just browse the aisle without being attacked by three different salesman?

they pimp the shit out of their shitty "direct" wines, too, but generally are more polite and respectful than the Spec's guys on Smith.

I’m done with Spec’s. No I don’t want to buy your shitty three year aged bourbon for thirty bucks a bottle. Stop fucking ask me. No I don’t want your fucking bourbon recommendations. Leave me the fuck alone when I’m in the bourbon aisle.

yep, their sales staff make it the worst

I run around with a crowd of that exact demographic.  Presuming you like 'em curvy and not super-skinny.....she's top-end material.  Drop her in any of the school events I've been at in recent years, and she'd be a head-turner (excluding, of course, the 30 year old second marriage trophy wives there).

Imagine if it was a 48 team WC, it would run till the beginning of January. Considering teams usually spend 4-6 weeks before the WC training and playing friendlies, its a complete cluster.

plus it is a country that doesn't have the infrastructure for the visitors.  and they don't allow alcohol.

It is without a doubt the most crooked award in the history of business

I have a bunch of Wyndham reward points that are going to expire on me so I booked four nights over Thanksgiving weekend in New Orleans.  I chose NO because we can drive from Austin instead of flying.  In other words I'm Dutch.  I just realized that that weekend is The Bayou Classic - Grambling State and Southern University.  We just wanted to chill, eat some good food, and go to the WWII museum.  I spent a weekend in the French Quarter during the Essence Festive in the 90's so this type of event isn't going to keep me away necessarily.   But back then I was young, high, and very drunk - which is a great way to go through life.  Now I'm old, sober, and with my wife.  Should we reconsider?

If we reconsider, do any of you have a suggestion for a nice Wyndham property within driving distance of Austin?  We' would consider San Antonio Riverwalk but we've done that so many times.

stay out of the quarter, you won't even notice.

I want to like Mbappe but his antics make it hard.

Good game by Pogba, he was a rock on the defensive end.  As for Belgium, you can never win anything if you rely on Fellaini....

so much truth in this.  Fellaini scores a goal and then they insert that statue into the starting XI.  made no sense to me, he's an offensive flow killer and too slow on D.  He's not very good unless finishing headers on set pieces.

Pogba was outstanding.  smart on the pitch and always seemingly in the right place.

Where I live, a huge chunk of our non-white population is South Asian.  They used to vote R in pretty strong numbers.  Then they figured out that Rs hate people with brown skin.  Now they're as D as it gets.

They went' from being not-particularly-engaged voters to being some of the most politically-engaged people I know.  They're well educated, and used to have a very "wait and see" attitude about politics.  Now, they've waited and seen, and they've become very activist.

maybe that will happen here, at some point, but I'm speaking of Chinese and Indian recent immigrants and they don't seem to dig the Dem economic policies in general.   Of course I say that and an Indian lady was running as a Dem in a recent election, but the majority of candidates we've had from those communities have been staunchly on the right.

  17. The R's will have to make adjustments at some point in the future on certain platform elements.  The Bush's were actually popular in the Hispanic vote, so return to that type of approach to immigrants and Mexico/Latin American relations would be a key.
