For all the folks critical of Texas using a TE in their offense.... check below Tweet on NFL stats showing frequency of personnel groupings most often used in 2019:

    Great Stuff @satyanash

The entire NFL spent the better part of the 2019 season in 11 personnel. That’s five offensive linemen, one quarterback, one running back (first digit in 11), one tight end (second digit in 11), and three wide receivers. Texas fans will recognize that as the preferred personnel grouping for Tom Herman’s offense and many have started to develop an irrational distaste for it that mirrors the decades-old hatred for “bubble screens.”

A major aspect of pro-spread is an emphasis on 11 personnel. It also means an emphasis on pro-style schemes and the use of drop back passing where the quarterback goes through progressions behind an offensive line executing pass protections.

Check out entire write-up in post below from Saty

Hate to be a downer but I'm gonna bite.

We get that Herman's use of tight ends is great in theory. Our offense was really really dynamic when we had Andrew Beck. But people were upset with the use of tight ends last year because we had no good tight ends on the roster. Our best TE was Cade Brewer, who was a massive step down from Beck. From what I understand, opponents were able to ignore the tight end threat completely and that is why our offense didn't show up to several games last year. Considering the number of stud WRs we had sitting on the bench, we should have spent the majority of our time in 10 personnel.

Working with the players you have matters, even in the NFL. It's why the Ravens had 562 snaps from the pistol formation last year, while the next highest team were the Cardinals with 62. There is no "best offense" that everyone should run. Working to your players strength's makes you successful at every level.

I trust Yurcich to fight Herman to put the best 11 players on the field though. He did at OSU and theres reports of him butting heads with Herman on certain issues already.

He was taken in the top 5 of every fantasy draft for the past several years. He's not just some pass catcher who’s slow and weak. He doesn’t fit Kliff’s system.

I hope he bounces back and does great, but he was also bad the year before Kliff arrived, injured the year before that. You can look up his stats, which are bad, but I watched the games and l am warning you HE IS SLOW. Apparently he's been working on losing some bulk this offseason so maybe that changes. Anyone that took him in fantasy the past couple years got fucked.

  3. This trade is even more ridiculous from a Cardinals fan's perspective. Johnson has been playing like ass since 2018 when we gave him a huge deal and made him one of the highest paid RBs in the league. In the middle of last year we got Kenyan Drake who was amazing. I dont think Johnson even got 5 more snaps after Drake was added to the roster. However, with the huge amount of cap space tied to Johnson we didnt think we would be able to afford resigning Drake. You just cant spend that much money on the running back room. The idea of finding a team dumb enough to take on Johnson's contract seemed impossible. Cardinals fans didn't even think we would be able to GIVE Johnson away.

Now we have arguably the best WR in the league and can justify spending on Drake. All for just a 2nd round pick and giving away our backup running back. Johnson is still a good pass catcher, but he is slow as hell and will go down immediately with any contact.

  4. Its gonna be interesting to see Mike with some blue chip recruits on his roster for once in his career. Miss State is near the bottom of their conference in recruiting but they're still usually top 25 with 5+ four stars every year. Hell I think there might be a 5 star on their roster. Hes not dealing with nearly the talent disparity he was at Tech or Wazzu.

  5. I know a lot of Oklahoma State fans hated him, but the reasoning behind it was always stupid. Anytime they faced a really good defense that managed to shut them down it was always blamed on Yurich instead of giving any credit to the opposing defense. They were a consistent top 10 offense but the fans were incredibly spoiled and would freak out anytime they didnt score 40. Here's an example of a bad game for him. Remember Tom's first year where we went to OT tied 10-10 vs OSU then lost because Sam threw the worst INT of his career? That was against Yurich.

    This would have me hard

    FD-03520I-Tackling-Fundamentals-Drills-f

but he also wrote this book

    FD-05124A-How-to-Build-a-Championship-Cu

From rumors we know he built anything but a culture of winning. Sounds like everything was divisive.

We will see if this works. It can't be any worse than what Orlando was teaching but I am not sold on Ash. I would have preferred Odom.

Odom was never the genius behind Pinkel's Mizzou. It was a DL coach Bama scooped up.

  7. I don't get the anti Chris Ash stuff, wasn't he a well regarded DC at Wisconsin and Ohio State? I know Rutgers sucked but Greg Robinson sucked as a head coach and he still came and kicked ass as a DC afterwards.

    Well, which is it?

There are like two veteran coaches that don't have plenty of WTF losses. Do you think there are only 2 good coaches in college football? What are your standards? I feel like people have the expectation where Texas finds the right coach and never loses another game after year 3. No one is going to recreate Saban's Bama dynasty at Texas. It's not going to happen. Bad seasons will occur no matter who the coach is.

last year's coach of the year.

i'm sick of hearing excuses why he would never work here.

i've watched 50% of this board twist and convulse itself in to rationalizing meyer.

    so fuck it.

    Pirate to Texas.

    fight me.

    happy thanksgiving.

He's a fantastic coach but he's not consistent enough for people on this board. He has plenty of WTF losses, instead of losing Maryland openers he loses to FCS openers. He has had a ton of bad seasons, Wazzu currently have the same record as Texas right now. The cherry on top is he also gets ass raped by his rival on the regular, which keeps him from winning his conference. He's like pretty much every good coach outside of Dabo and Saban right now except with championship level press conferences. I honestly don't think he'd be a clear upgrade over our current coach.

  10. Most data driven analysts predicted we would have a worse record this year. Turns out they were right. Most posters here bought the hype behind our stud WR recruits and just assumed that the new underclassmen starters on defense would be an upgrade over our seniors from last year.
