  1. Hispanic here, the chicano movement died out in the 80's an d90's. The vast, vast majority of hispanics in Texas do not identify as chicano. And yeah, a feeling of "moved on up" was a hallmark of the chicano movement.
  2. The primary reason this doesn't work, and something even many spanish speakers in the US don't get, is that there are dialects of spanish where "Latinx" is literally unpronounceable. There are places where "X" is pronounced like "Ch" or "h" and not like "ks" like white people in america pronounce it, for example. When you brings this up, the response is to "just pronounce it like latin-equis." X isn't always pronounced "equis" in spanish speaking countries, that's a very anglo pronounciation. Typically, the more southern or native american a spanish speaking culture is, the less likely "X" will be pronounced the way white people do. And they don't seem to get how that is cultural imperialism. How insulting is it to have people, not from your home town, telling you to change the pronunciation of the term for yourself, and in order to make it work, for that one word, pronounce the phonemes like an entirely different culture pronounces them. It's double insulting, in a way that deeply reveals some bubbles people live in. Like, people flat out don't get it. A comparison I made, say for some reason there was a push to rename "Seattle" to "Xiattle." Just pronounce "Xi" like they do in some asian countries, and not as it's often pronounced in english, and it makes sense.
  3. No, it was a class on framing shots, the actual makeup of filmmaking. It was actually completely divorced from the politics except as perfunctory requirement.
  4. Production values are mainly a function of providing enough funding to let visionaries do whatever they want. Throughout history, the visionaries in film have come from all sorts of ideologies; Birth of the Nation was taught in a class I took at UT, and we also looked at Lemi Riefenstahl and Sergei Eisenstein and the effects of Nazi and soviet propaganda respectively. The ultimate common factor I noticed was having a leader that pumped money into those programs. Michael Bay has no problems doing right-wing stuff. Fox News follows the same template news machine aesthetic very well because it has significant funding. Trump's administration just wasn't interested in producing more than WCW levels of production is all. Example: Dude a laptop from 2001 and a hacked version of photoshop can do better than this rinky dink shit.
  5. For real, that looked so fucking professional compared to the carny shit of the last 4 years. Trump's presidential functions had the aesthetic of those scummy daytime commercials aimed at scamming senior citizens.
  6. Holy shit, this election was much more about getting Trump out than anything else, but that Biden speech was straight fire!
  7. landslide now bitches!! one term loser. Only impeached president to receive a bipartisan vote. Fuck you trump, you were especially awful. An abysmal president.
  8. Can you tell the difference between a forum post topic title and journalism, dipshit? Because, guess what, I'm not a journalist nor a media pundit, I'm a poster on discussion board. You know discussion boards, right? Those are the places where people come forth to put arguments, that others can refute or rebuke or accept. Hence the post, it's an argument. Congrats on finding the very explicit argument I was making in the thread title. Unfortunately, while you are barely cognizant enough to recognize that an argument was made, your decayed, rotten brain isn't smart enough to recognize what facts are. Considering you get your definition of "fact" from fictional characters from books written more than half a century ago, I'll lay it on you. Adjective != "not fact." A superspreader event is defined by the CDC as an event of more than 8 cases. This was 19 cases. It is, by definition, a superspreader event. Framing my topic title with that verifiable information doesn't make it "not fact" you moron. It is similarly a fact that this occurred hours after Mullen was calling to pack the swamp. Those are facts, as some needle dick dipshit loves to say, facts don't care about your feelings. If the intentional framing of the topic title makes your pathetic wee wee hurt, GOOD. I'm glad it's causing you discomfort. You deserve it. I hope you and your family catch covid, too.
  9. To be fair, the percentage of the population that is any of a variety of conditions like being obese, having lung problems, having hereditary heart conditions, are elderly, or are or ever have been smokers barely covers like 85-90% of the population. That's what we call Golden Corral narrow.
  10. Ya, he's totally a free thinker. It's not like that same comment has been ctrl-c ctrl-v all over old people sites like facebook for weeks now. I'm sure he found that talking point out just through his own independent research pouring through lexisnexis.
  11. I get that you're like retarded and shit but you should have paid attention in the 5th grade when they taught about HIV: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunistic_infection It's kinda like saying how having sex with your ugly wife isn't gross, it's the associated smells and slimes that come out of her as a result of a thousand truckers plowing away at her that are gross. Also, take it to the CR conspiracy theory thread, pussy.
  12. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/30108140/florida-5-new-virus-cases-lsu-game
  13. Wouldn't surprise me. The way, for example, CCISD covered up that a bunch of one of the HS baseball team got it over the summer due to forced work outs for example, or how 3 bus drivers have died on top of the dozens that have caught it and even the bus director died at the job after coming in with covid. Anything to avoid the bad publicity, and spooking the parents.
  14. All this is going to be way worse for Florida because, as bad as Texas has been about adhering to guidelines, at least we still have SOME up. Florida just relaxed basically all their guidelines. UF, the school, supposedly wasn't going to allow them to pack the swamp, but the governor said it's a-ok. Masks are no longer required, no social distancing restrictions. Basically, if UF administration wanted to, they could host a full normal game, as though it was taking place in 2019 instead. This is like divine intervention stuff lol.
  15. They're worse than normal fans, too, because they can't stop touching all over each other. Grabbing each other's crotches, whooping in each others mouths, etc.
  16. LOL oops How it started: https://www.tampabay.com/sports/gators/2020/10/10/florida-gators-dan-mullen-wants-90000-at-the-swamp-next-week/ How it ended: One UF player apparently had Covid before the game. Now 19 players on UF have it. That player who had Covid saw significant play time at the game in collie station, so the Aggots of A&M probably are diseased now as well.
  17. Also wanted to say I appreciate a game from EA that you buy once and that's that. No MTX, no DLC, no season pass, no reoccurring charges. Just a single player campaign, and online mode out of the box. Very old school design. I like that it's cheaper than most games too.
  18. And ILM. As far as I'm concerned he isn't celebrated enough. He advanced story telling in so many ways. I'm a graphics programmer by profession. I do very low level stuff. I've also done work with mocap. George Lucas' influence is all over the industry.
