So I am guessing if we beat USC tomorrow the "fire TH" crowd will be here spewing that we only won because USC just is not that good this year.
Cautiously, yes. They're already saying it.
But it will be just a step. And I'll take a step for the moment. I just need to see them string together a few more before I can say they're walking. Sure the Fire TH crowd is the same (just angrier).

I’ve got a couple of front runners:
A) Terrible Matt Leinart one where he throws a wine cooler deep while talking to the ‘Ritas’. Embarrassed for him.
B) Brian Bosworth Dr Pepper commercial where he plays the Sheriff of Fansville. Currently boycotting Dr Pepper for that abortion.
I love B. The Mad Hatter sippin' on a Pepper.

aggy might dig him up and suit him up, but E. King Gill would play as many snaps as a cadaver as he did back in the day. None. Turdition.
Are those type of stats posted on the doggy scoreboard?

I hope that doesn't impact CDC's ability to do the right thing, should the need arise.
Man I hope this doesn't have an impact on the CDC knob-schlobfest over on the CDC thread. I think I'll tweet CDC about this and see what he can do.

especially if we've fired another coach after a tenure of three years (or less with all the talk about shitcanning Herman this year)
There could be a little something to this, but if you're a coach of a successful power 5 school, you have quite a bit of confidence in your abilities to run a program and probably carry around a bit of an ego, so you're gunna think -no- know that you're gunna have that program running fine in less than three years... especially if some of these good recruits hang on.

We can’t afford to keep resetting the clock and expect to attract top recruits. Not at the level that we should for our program
100%. You're right, "money whip" a proven coach and groom his successor.

Great, maybe now they can afford to buy their dead dogs a projection screen instead of only a scoreboard. Can you imagine just watching a fucking scoreboard?

Still seems like there are too many plays where the RB is stuggling to get back to the line but overall OL looks improved
Yah, I've noticed that, but I also notice on a lot of those runs the delay to give the ball to the back seems to take longer than it should, then the back hesitates a lot longer than it should. But I haven't gone back and looked, just the live impression I've been getting. The amount of time it takes to get a play going sometimes if frustrating as F

This is a dynamic I did not expect. Herman has completely lost the fan base. It is probably not all his fault, either. Years of apathy has a lot to do with this. But he certainly has not helped himself.
The ending of the game was so bizarre. Usually after the last kneeling of the ball, with the coaches walking toward the middle of the field before time expires. the crowd starts cheering and the broadcasters start talking about "this win yada yada yada". As Herman started walking to midfield with seconds on the clock the crowd was dead silent. The broadcast didn't say a word. It was so freaking bizarre.

Pete Carroll would be 67-68 by the time he took over, that's my only concern, but I'd still be for it, as I'm confident he could get the program back on the right track for his successor. Well, confident at this very moment of consideration of Pete Carroll. Could change my mind in a few minutes.

Ran out of edits, but sure a QB can slide when they want, we just shouldn't go asking for a penalty willy-nilly every time a QB drops their ass out of thin air within three yards of a defender committing to pop them.

but I was sitting in a room with more than a dozen mostly pretty big football fans and everyone agreed it was a good
I've seen a lot of big football fans disagree with the call. Some on this thread.
I'm not going to allow myself to be conditioned into thinking these are good calls. Football is football. The target (QB's head) dropped about four feet in a split second as a player was lowering for a tackle, which led to a helmet-to-helmet situation, which is what happens when you play tackle football with helmets on.
It's the same reason we see players get their "ankles broken" when a badass skill guy puts the juke on them: it happens in less than a second, and adjusting is difficult (even when you are able to get them down by a shoestring).
QBs shouldn't be allowed to slide at the last second. They need to slide way sooner. Can't be pulling the rug out from under defenders then suspending them a whole damn half for it.

however that play by johnson was not a good play. he had some chance to lessen his blow a bit and he didn't not. he seems to constantly be increasing his efforts to hit with his head and shoulder.
to a point thought its nearly impossible to really stop this. its going to happen from time to time.
I get what you're saying here, I just think it looks a lot worse than it really is, and that is the case most of the time. Like I said it my earlier post, he keeps tracking down with his shoulders (your head goes with your shoulders), and it's probably because A.) he's trying to stay below his helmet, and B.) he's trying to protect his legs. Just a subconscious thing.
You see his feet come off the ground at the end, which looks worse than it really is. That big ass QB isn't just gunna stop still when he slides, that boy's weight is coming, too. So you gotta come in there with some momentum yourself then brace for it. You can't just let the guy ram into you without any effort to stop it. You also cannot go full on and lay him out. Johnson could have gone a lot more full on IMO.
One thing we see a lot that is never ever called is when a RB or receiver is hit and goes down running forward, and a defender goes to the ground and kinda stops him. It looks like the defender is hitting/spearing him, and you think to yourself "why not just hurdle him?", but it's a natural reaction to protect your legs, so they go down and stop them instead of risking injury to themselves.

if the Maryland QB had been a UT QB then nobody, including Herman, would be objecting to the call
I would. It makes me angry in any game I see it, because too often it's a bullshit call and it stands. and a team has to go a full half or more without that player, and some fall-in-line color commentator and broadcaster talk about it like the kid is a monster and stupid for about three minutes. Fuck that.
Granted, I wouldn't be complaining about it on the internet today, but when I saw it I'd call it out.

How long has the rule been that if a QB is sliding feet first you pull up to avoid contact?
Once that leg/hip touches the ground, they’re down. That’s my $0.02
My problem with that is that Johnson is already going down into a tackling motion when the QB commits to slide. Sure, Johnson had time to kinda pull up and hop over the slide, but these guys are always worried about their legs. Trying to correct and hop/roll over the slide puts his legs/knees/ankles into the position of getting driven into. Natural reaction is to instead stop the momentum of the player with your shoulders/upper body instead. Take a second to look at your shoulders. Pretty dang close to your head, huh? And they're not moving forward and down without it.
The other problem is that Johnson is already trying to go low. Now the QB is sliding and he has to continue going lower to stay below his head. Had he just gone right through him instead, it'd have probably still been a 15 yard penalty for plowing through the sliding QB with his dick (or he can jump, but like I said, he's probably worried about his lower body there)
Honestly, Johnson could have done worse and continued full speed and laid into the hit, but he just went low and stood his ground, kinda subconsciously protecting his legs.
Just a shitty situation, everything happening too fast, don't give a shit how good of an athlete he is.
