  1. I think suspended for the season makes sense based on what we know. Thats a pretty harsh punishment but also gives the kid a second chance (which likely improves the odds of him getting his shit together). Cast him off and who knows what road he goes down. But any additional slip up and he’s gone.

  2. I am really fighting the urge to do the Ironman 70.3 next year in Chattanooga after watching several people I know do it last Sunday.I really don’t want to buy a $2,500 bike and all of that shit but I cannot shake the feeling of wanting to challenge myself as half’s are starting to get boring and I want to progress and push myself. Am I an idiot?

Not an idiot. Triathlon is fun. I really like the diversity of the training and being able to focus on one of 3 sports for blocks at a time.

As said you don’t need to spend that much on a bike if you don’t want to.

On the Tri note, anyone else doing CapTex on Monday?
  3. Congrats on 10th place!!!! Hope those bone spurs heal, I've never had to deal with them.

My Boston Marathon - went exactly as I planned.  I ran a little faster than through the first half, just staying with the thousands of other runners.  I high-fived a ton of kids, soaked in Wellesley College girls, stopped and gave my niece a hug at mile 14, and felt strong through the Newton hills.  I stopped on Heartbreak Hill and finally had a couple of beers (plastic cup size, not full size cans) with the BU kids.  Got going again and just had fun running it in.  I saw my wife and kids on Bolyston, while I was stopping to give them all a hug, I was waived off and told to finish strong.  So that's it, no more Boston, no more marathons.
I bought a road bike and am waiting for that sucker to come in.  I'm going to continue to run and bike, have fun and maybe just maybe get little faster in each one.  I'm trying something new with my running this summer, we'll see what that brings or doesn't.  Might help if I were to put down a cookie or two or three.

    That’s awesome
  4. My goal is to run a few halfs and then more importantly be healthy and run another full. I feel like I might increased the mileage too much too fast once the fall rolls around.
I think if can maintain a 20 mile per week baseline then the increase won’t be so bad

I think 20mpw is perfect. Any less than that won’t have your body ready for the pounding of increased mileage. Any any more than that and it becomes a real chore.

I’d break that 20 up into 6 days of running. Three 2 mile runs (easy). Two 4 mile runs (these can be a little faster, but still keep them endurance paces). And one 6 mile run (in between pace of other 2 runs).
  5. Took my two boys to get haircuts today. As were checking out some old fat guy waiting asked my 6 year old if he was going to be an Aggy. Cooper just shook his head no at the bastard (I gave him a fist bump on the way out). Aggys are so weird.

  6. Best way to get faster is to run more consistently/frequently. Best way to do that is to run easy. Don’t go out trying to do better than your last run every time. Slowly and carefully build your mileage up by running 6-7 days per week. All at endurance paces. Add no more than 10% more mileage each week. Once you’re consistently running 30-40 mpw (or whatever you have time for in your schedule) then you can think about adding a tempo run a week and maybe eventually speed work. But you need to get the mileage up and be consistent for 2-3 months before I’d suggest speed stuff.

  7. The Houston Marathon was very kind to me. I ran a 3:22:44 (goal was 3:25) and bested my PR by 15+ minutes.
The conditions were very favorable for low times - the wind dropped significantly from Saturday to Sunday, and temps stayed in the low 40s. That was my first Houston marathon, and that city knows how to put on a race. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

    Huge Pr! Congrats!

  8. Weather at the 3M Half was perfect.
Came into today with a goal of breaking the 2 hour mark.  My two previous halves were 2:08 and 2:03 and I'm not much of a runner but am working towards next month's Austin Full.
Ran today in 1:49.  Kept a steady 8:20 pace pretty much the whole time.
    Feels great.

    Nice job smokey!

How did everyone else’s races go? I went 1:23:03 in Houston on a lot of fatigue. Hoping to take 3:04 off of that in a couple of weeks at Katy half with a full taper.
