I never really paid much attention to it other than it seemed a notch above most animated shows, and then my youngest put it on the episode where the dad is holding the youngest (Bingo?) while he’s pissing in the bush, and everything else is going off the rails.  I was laughing so hard.

Ah yes, Takeaway.  A classic.  I think that's my wife's favorite.

The show can make you laugh, but has some real poignant moments for the parents too.  The parents are both aspirational in how they interact with the kids, but also very relatable in how they screw up and in general, are just normal parents with their own lives and interests.  We love it.

  2. U21's are playing today. ESPN and ESPN+
    Netherlands vs France
    Spain vs Croatia
    Denmark vs Germany
    Portugal vs Italy

I’m on a plane and got locked into this Portugal/Italy game. What a game. Wide open game from minute 1 and we’re in the second half of extra time. 4-3 and 10-man Italy just missed a chance to tie it by inches.
  3. Well, looks like Black Pumas are still on for this week.

Does anyone have a couple for Wednesday?  I have 2 for Saturday, but I am going out of town, so looking for a straight trade on the dates.

Tough to tell the quality of the components, but damn if these aren’t works of art

That's awesome that you brought this up.  Shea was an intern at my company a few years back.  He was actually just getting into vinyl at the time and we bonded over that a bit.  About a year after he left, I heard that he started this company.  I can't speak to the quality of the product, but he is a good dude and trustworthy.  Happy that it seems like he is doing well with this endeavor.

I went and checked out Love Wheel today.  Pretty cool little shop.  I typically go to Waterloo when I know what I want and may pick around a bit.  This is much more of a neighborhood type place where you go in having no idea what you'll find.  It's small, so you can probably get through the stacks in 30 minutes and find some gems.  I'm actually currently listening to the copy of "Let It Bleed" that I picked up today for $10.  It sounds great.

  5. Wife was out of town, so I was flipping around the streaming services looking for something to watch. Amazon had "Layer Cake" on the front page, which is a movie I really liked when it came out and during it's post theater cable run, but hadn't seen in years.  Thought I would check in and see if it was as good as I remember.

Let me tell you, that movie still fucking rules.  Just entertaining as hell from start to finish.  If you hadn't seen it in a while (or never have seen it), I highly recommend checking it out.

  6. My wife just flew to Denver to help put her mom in a nursing home.  Her mom is only 65, so it's way too early for this and has been really hard on her whole family.

She started showing signs a couple years ago, but the last few months she has developed Capgras Syndrome, which is basically Imposter Syndrome.  A couple times a day, she thinks my father in law is an intruder and she screams and curses at him and runs away.  He can't get her back into the house because she thinks he is trying to hurt her.   She then calls whoever is easily accessible on her phone frantic about it and they have to try to talk her back into the house.  Hard on my wife when she is in the middle of a 12 hour work day and has to talk her mom back into her own home.  My mother in law actually called the cops once and they came out to the house, which was an interesting experience for my extremely straight laced father in law.

She also constantly wants to go to a party, and when they get people together to make her happy she asks "where is everybody?"  The "party" is never good enough.  She wasn't a super social person to begin with, so definitely a weird way her dementia has changed her.  My sister in law lives in Denver with her family and she is exhausted because she has to host her mentally deteriorating mom constantly to give her a "party" and she has two little kids and a job.

My father in law is definitely not one to give in or complain, so if he thinks he can't take care of her and she needs to go into a home, I can't imagine how hard it is on him.

  7. Bluey is the best kids show and it's not close.

Both my 1 year old and 4 year old will sit and watch it for as long as we'll let them.  It's also legitimately a good show and the parent's experiences are pretty relatable, so I'll watch it with them too.

  8. And guys that have fallen out of the rotation a bit like Zouma and Tammy.

    Sure those guys too.

I’m more thinking about guys who were on that 16-17 Conte-led title winning team. That is probably my favorite team in the decade that I have been following Chelsea.

I guess Zouma was on that team too (though not a key member), so should have included him.

  9. What a second half. Back and forth, those guys had to be on fumes.

Got lucky on the penalty no call, but that happens. We have to be in their heads at this point, which is great with the CL final coming up.

I know he doesn’t play much anymore and is probably leaving in the summer, but I love Alonso. He’s had so many huge goals over the years. I really hope we can win the CL for guys like him, Azpi and Kante who have been around for a while.

  10. I was skeptical for much of the season, but it was just 8 episodes, so thought I would stay with it.

Man, glad I did.  Those last 2 episodes were top notch.  Just really good shit.

And now for Season 2, they have about 10 different ways they can go with it. I'm excited for season 2 now.

  11. I thought it was interesting what Maria said about not getting feedback since she's always in the middle.  I was actually just wondering that last week.

I feel like they should at least give people in the middle some sense of how they are doing.  Seems a little unfair that you only get feedback when you're on the bottom or top, especially early on when they middle is so big.

  12. Enjoyed the first few episodes of “Call My Agent”. It’s a French show about a talent agency in Paris and they have actual French actors portraying themselves. It’s light and entertaining with French people being French.

As a Francophile, it’s right up my alley.

  13. Firstly, there are 5 compounds to choose from. They call them C1 to C5, hardest to softest. Pirelli decides which 3 to bring to a race weekend depending on the circuit characteristics (abrasive or smooth) and the location temperature/climate. Typically they bring 3 consecutive compounds in order (like this week they have C1, 2, and 3), but sometimes they skip one and may do something like C1, C2, and C4. Regardless, these are always marked with corresponding colors, red is softest tire for the weekend, yellow is medium, white is hardest. They also being intermediate and full wet tires (compounds of these are always the same and do not change) just in case.

Teams get 13 sets of tires for a weekend. Pirelli will specify two sets that must be saved for the race (typically one set each of the two harder compounds), and one set of the softest compound is saved for qualifying.

For the other 10, the teams used to be able to choose what they wanted, but last year and this year Pirelli has made that decision for easier logistics during pandemic times.

So, for example, each car may have something like 8 soft, 3 medium, and 2 hard sets for practice, qualifying, and race.

Teams then give back two (used) sets to Pirelli after FP1, 2 after FP2, and 2 after FP3. Pirelli will study these used tires to see how they wore to help gather data for the future. That leaves 7 sets left for Q and the race (including the three mandatory sets as described above).

So, taking the two mandatory race sets away, teams will typically want to save another new set of tires for the race as well, leaving 4 sets for Q. For the top teams, that usually means using 1 in Q1, 1 in Q2, and 2 in Q3. However, if you make it to Q3, you actually get one more set of soft tires to use (a 14th set). Sometimes teams will make a run on used tires in some of the Q sessions as well, or, if they didn’t get a clean run in, may have to use another one of their new soft sets which means they may no longer have that extra new set for the race (but can still use used tires for it).

So in the end, the teams usually end up with 3 new sets (and 4 used sets) for the race, but they will always have 2 at minimum.

For cars that made it to Q3, they are required to start on the tires that their Q2 time was set with. This is why you see some teams try to use a harder medium compound to make it into Q3 with, since starting the race on a harder tire opens up more strategy options. Everyone else behind the top 10 on the grid can choose whichever tire of the sets they have left to start the race on.

Sorry that was long, but I think I got most of it. There’s some other rules that come in to play when it’s wet, like being able to trade some of your dry sets for intermediate or wet sets, but I don’t remember them exactly.

    Thanks.

good to know it is actually confusing as shit and I wasn’t just being dense.

  14. A new record store just opened a few doors down from Lala’s. Haven’t been yet but more local stores is a good thing.

You got a name? Google is coming up empty.

I’ve always been a Waterloo devotee going back to my college years(CD’s back then) but been buying more from Breakaway recently. Would be good to put another place into the rotation.
