Bergmark in for Caffey in set 3

I hope Caffey isn’t hurt (commentators said she was talking to the trainer), and I think she is the better attacker…but I don’t think I am going to panic if we are stuck with Bergmark for the rest of the tournament - she puts up a good block, and I think we can still win it all

I don't really get Skinner as the 6 rotation over Logan

It’s weird, I never thought Logan did anything to lose the 6 rotations. I also think she provides strong leadership being on the court the whole match. I originally thought Logan may have a slight injury or something, but I’m still confused why Elliott doesn’t try again.

I’m starting to believe Texas just isn’t that great at talent evaluation at DS. It’s impossible to verify but let’s see how somebody like Iosia does at another school.

If she’s still meh at another school is it development or simply the fact she’s not an elite talent?

I feel like a broken record every season, but I agree that it seems we either can’t evaluate DS talent (or maybe we can’t recruit them idk)

IMO, since Sarah Palmer was libero, I can’t think of a Texas DS/libero that I would rank higher than maybe a 6 or 7 on a scale on 1-10 (not including O’Brien). McCoy and Iosia would probably get the highest rank…but you look at other teams like Purdue, Wisconsin, Nebraska, BYU, pre COVID Stanford, and other non Big 10 teams I am blanking on - and they typically have multiple back-row players on their roster that can consistently out-dig and out-SR us.

  4. I kinda wish we could’ve stolen Kansas 6 rotation OH Caroline Bien. She was a pretty big weapon all season for Kansas, and had a pretty decent match against us too.

It will be interesting to see if Fields ends up being able to handle 6 rotations, or if she never really gets there (kinda like Lexi).

Their offense is so fast and so good

I’m really surprised how often Purdue is getting beat on block after playing in the Big-10. But I can still see them pulling off an upset if they have any gas left after their last two 5 set wins.

  6. I kinda like Pitts 5-2 - they have one setter that plays all the way around (setting in the back and hitting in the front), and the other setter only sets in the back. Interesting option since they always have 3 hitters, but the front row setter can step in to set. IIRC, Penn State had a pretty successful system like this somewhat recently.

I haven't watched much of Nebraska. Does Sun not play much?

She was benched in the middle of the season - but I think she made her way back into the lineup. Idk how much playing time she gets though

Cooney for ILL didn’t make the trip. So it’ll be an uninteresting sweep for Corn and we play them Saturday. ESPN and the committee gonna get what they wanted

Dang, knew she hadn’t played much recently but I thought she was better after playing the full match against Kentucky

  9. Also, slightly off topic - but does anyone else think Washington coach Keegan Cook and Stanford coach Kevin Hambly look similar, especially from behind? I wasn’t paying too close attention to him, and for two seconds I thought Hambly had taken a new job

  10. I feel like Eggleston, Para (mostly), Syd, and Iosia have shown positive back row improvement for the most part. I’m more optimistic about the ability to develop back row SR and defense than I have been in awhile. It’s definitely not perfect, and I still think we could recruit better…but not terrible

Graham can really set the biggest garbage pass and set it well.  Impressive.

I don’t watch Rice outside of their matches against us, but she has always played well and sets really nice quick sets. But her form is so odd to me - she gets her feet behind most balls, but it’s almost like she sets only using her wrists

  12. Did he just say this was the 3rd largest crowd in history? If so - did they recently add seats, increase ticket numbers, or something else. Because that seems like an odd record breaking crowd considering how many other “high profile” matches have been played in Gregory.

  13. Was this the first match that Iosia brought the jump serve back? I think this was the most consistent and effective serving she has had as a Longhorn.

Tonight, Baylor’s serve receive broke down during important points, but IMO Baylor is missing a well rounded offense - When they beat us in 2019, their middles and right sides were solid weapons that played well against us - Van der Mark was pretty quiet tonight.

I bet Louisville gets some 1st place votes this week with their win over #4 Pitt

The Championship Committee revealed their top 10, and put Louisville at #1 and Texas at #2. (Also, Baylor is at #8)
