We bought a used receiver and plugged it and some speakers we’ve had sitting around for a while for the kids TV in the den. Stretched its legs with some Spotify through the TV app. Got to a Brandi Carlile song and she popped up on the 70 inch TV…

omg she is sooooo hot in this pic.

Yeah she's gorgeous.  If I were going to make an exception, she'd be pretty much top of the list.

  2. On the one hand lock that fucker up.  On the other, it's a drop in the bucket.  I used to read a blog that once a week ran a list of all the people who were either clergy or outspoken "family values" republicans who had been arrested for either kiddie porn or else the rape of children.  I don't recall that list ever falling below 15 in any given week.

Sounds like 18-20 year old me.  And I skipped every class I thought I could get away with skipping.

Wasn't a thing when I went to school in the 70s and 80s. Of course then again I went to a relatively poor school. Hell my parents did well, and our only annual vacation was 2 weeks in August.

And yes, unexcused absences definitely lowered your grade after a certain point.

Yeah back then if you didn't have a doctor's note after missing more than one day, you got 0's for any homework or tests that were assigned while you were gone.  It was fucking brutal.  On top of that, my dad was a pharmacist, so I had to be sick as a dog to get out of going to school altogether.  I knew I could get away with having an upset stomach and going home at lunch 3 or 4 times a year, but that's as much as I was ever going to get.

parading around and fucking total strangers sounds horrible.

I'm with you sister!  It sounds fun in theory but the few times I went down that road it was not at all fun.

interesting fact the upside down pink triangle that is now (or recently was as now we’ve moved to variations of rainbow flags) a symbol of queer folk was a symbol of the nazis for lgbtq people. They made (mostly) gay men  but also trans women and cross dressers to wear a pink triangle patch for identification in camps.

Yep, I have that pink triangle tattooed on my back, because it represents that we were marked for slaughter, and I want to make sure to always remember that those days could come back if we don't remain vigilant.

Saying Assless chaps helps the mind picture a bare ass in chaps.

And who doesn't want to picture a bare ass, am I right?  For example, that picture above.  Dude could lose the jeans and underwear and drastically improve the look of that outfit.

  6. Your goddamn right.  My town gave you your greatest athlete to ever play at Tech, not counting Idalou's own Tracy Saul.  I grew up hating Tech (except their band was pretty badass), then started to really love them with Leach, then hated them again for what they did to Leach.  Fuck them for that forever.

Tech was the only law school to accept me and was generous enough to give me a diploma three years later.  I left Lubbock in '91 and have had no desire to return since.  It's like that Mac Davis song only without the desire to go back.  Fuck 'em

I grew up in the shadow of Lubbock, as in one of the roads in Lubbock is named after the town I grew up in about 50 minutes south.  I very happily left there and only went back for family until family moved away.  Hadn't been back in years until my dad died last year and wanted to have his funeral back in that town.  Now that he's gone, I'm not sure I'll ever go back, and just the thought of that makes me happy.

Mac Davis song - Happiness is Lubbock in my Rear View Mirror - with the appropriate strikeouts for accuracy.

… I was just fifteen and out of control lost to James Dean and rock and roll
I knew down deep in my country soul that I had to get away
Hollywood was a lady in red who danced in my dreams as I tossed in bed
I knew I'd wind up in jail or dead if I have to stay
I thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rearview mirror
My mama kept calling me home but I just did not want to hear her
And the vision was getting clearer in my dream
So I let out one night in June stoned on the glow of the Texas moon
Humming an old Buddy Holly tune called Peggy Sue (pretty, pretty Peggy Sue)
With my favorite jeans and a cheap guitar I ran off chasing a distant star
If Buddy Holly could make it that far then I figured I could too
I thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rearview mirror
My mama kept calling me home but I just did not want to hear her
And the vision was getting clearer in my dream
But the Hollywood moon didn't smile the same old smile that I?d grown up with
The lady in red just wanted my last dime
And I cried myself to sleep at night too dumb to run too scared to fight
And too proud to admit it at the time
So I got me some gigs on Saturday night not much more than orchestrated fights
I'd come home drunk and I tried to write but the words came out all wrong
Hell bent and bound for a wasted youth too much gin and not enough vermouth
And no one to teach me to seek the truth before I put an end to this song
I still thought happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rearview mirror
My mama kept calling me home but I just could not, would not hear her
And the vision was getting clearer in my dream
Well I thank God each and every day for giving me the music and the words to say
I'd never had made it any other way he was my only friend
Now I sleep a little better each night and when I look in the mirror in the morning light
The man I see was both wrong and right he's going home again
I guessed happiness was Lubbock Texas in my rearview mirror
But now happiness was Lubbock Texas growing nearer and dearer
And the vision was getting clearer in my dream
And I think I finally know just what it means
And when I die you can bury me in Lubbock Texas in my jeans

I can't speak to those other products, but that tush cush is some high quality lube.  Your partner will thank you next time you are heading towards the back door.

I would have loved to see Harbaugh’s face after Jameis explained. “Well Coach, I’m not a sex addict. I jumped up on the table and yelled ‘fuck her right in the pussy’ because I was making fun of an internet meme where a guy jumped in front of a news camera and yelled it into the microphone.’ It was just a prank.”

I think trying to explain a pop culture reference is why we're over here on surly instead of hanging out at shaggy.  Would expect both explanations to go about the same.

Billy Gillespie, who I used to know many years ago, was/is a drunk who could not get away from his demons.

At some point in his life, he begin to let his ego get the best of him and never dealt with his issues. He got a DWI at UTEP and then got hired at A&M. He didn't suffer any consequences and never checked himself. He proceeded to wreck himself. Honestly, he was a very nice guy years ago. Personal and not overly arrogant for a coach. He just bought too much into the praise people heaped upon him.

Wait, I think I saw this movie back in the 80's.

On XM84 Full Ride, Neuheisel and Childers were just openly campaigning for RC Slocum to step in and become the AD for a few years and “unite the masses and make sure Mike Elko has everything he needs.”

Now, nevermind that the HC at ATM is usually getting whatever they want, as the Jimbo years show. That counterpoint is absurd. Just focus on the glory of what could possibly be if Slocum gets the gig. That would be one of the aggiest maneuvers of all time.

Hey I'm all for this, especially if it means the revival of Slocum on a Mobile.
