Fox News and NY Post are basically the same person. I'm betting they spoke to the same source - probably Kash, Bongino or one of their lackeys. This is how the shit goes in the right wing echo chamber - watch the algorithm take it to the top of everyone's feed in about an hour.

And now the Kirk supporters are pushing a narrative that the shooter’s roommate was transitioning from male to female. These people are not ok.
Not just roommate - "partner / boyfriend." The right wing echo chamber is about to work their asses off to amplify this into a thing.

Or the journalist could just do their actual job before taking things as fact.
Here's the latest recasting of the "friend" commentary:
QuoteWe have additional reporting from Tyler Robinson’s high school associate who played video games with the suspected gunman.
The friend, who asked to remain anonymous, said Robinson had expressed sentiments to him that were critical of Donald Trump when they were hanging out several years ago despite the rest of his family being broadly conservative in their views. The friend acknowledged he could not be certain about Robinson’s more recent political views, as they lost touch after graduating Pine View high school. Voting records show Robinson was unaffiliated with a political party ahead of the 2024 election. His parents are registered Republicans.
Now the Guardian reporter, Anna Betts, is calling him an "associate who played video games with the suspected gunman." And apparently, Tyler "expressed sentiments to him that were critical of Donald Trump," which I guess led to the "associate's" statements that he was "pretty left on everything" and was "the only member of the family that was, like, really leftist." In Dixie Utah, I could see anyone critical of Trump being viewed as leftist, even if the concern came from the "farther right" (e.g., was he bitching about Trump's support of Israel or something like that?).
What a fucking failure of reporting, and what utter bullshit from this "associate." The Guardian, for its part, is doing a truly shitty job of owning this. They should have been prominently and clearly retracting the "really leftist" bullshit that they unleashed, but it's all embedded "oops, that might not have been 100% accurate" shit in the story.

Everybody knows that Utah State is the tu of the state of Utah.
And let's check the tapes on that:
- #4 on the College Transitions list of most conservative public schools ahead of A&M (#5) (https://www.collegetransitions.com/blog/most-conservative-colleges/)
- #8 on College Rover list of most conservative colleges (again ahead of A&M, but behind BYU - supporting claims of being the "liberal" school in Utah) (https://collegerover.com/campus-library/news/128/most-conservative-colleges-in-us)
- #11 on Prep Scholar list of most conservative colleges (again ahead of A&M) (https://blog.prepscholar.com/most-conservative-colleges)
Not sure what criterion all of this is based on, but scary that even kids at a top 11 conservative school aren't safe from "lIBRul IndOCtRiNatIoN!11!" (in 1 semester no less). Won't someone think of the children? Apparently we need to be expanding capacity at the last bastions of conservatism, Bob Jones U, Liberty and BYU immediately.

All of the twitter bots and trash maga accounts have been deployed and repeating the “he was leftist” refrain now. Any posts about the groyper angle are being obscured or ratioed. It’s all very unsurprising but extremely difficult to watch unfold.
At least some of the more respected outlets are picking this up, most notably Vanity Fair:

Fox News gonna Fox News ...
If true, this will be an absolute shitshow, but gut reaction to this:

In my opinion, if a witness recants their statement like this, the journalist should be free to out the asshole. You don't get to make shit up to promote a narrative and then hide behind anonymity.

I uh, think I hit the nail on the head with option 2. David Brooks isn’t exactly a liberal, but I think this is probably pretty representative among liberal and centrist pundits:
So the government / police killed Charlie Kirk??? Where can I subscribe to their newsletter to get the details?

I saw a pic of a bullet with TRN.
Got it. I saw that too with the theory - it just wasn't clear to me that it was one of the actual recovered bullets.

Mfg inscriptions had the word Tran or something like that on the bottom of the bullet. It was a major stretch. At least that’s what I saw.
I saw that explanation floated, but was there ever any confirmation that the mfr inscription was what they were referring to? I was thinking it might have been a mischaracterization of the "Notices Bulge" thing, which apparently has some links to Furry culture - see https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/notices-bulge-owo-whats-this.
The Verge did an okay job recapping the theories behind the inscriptions:
Honestly, all of this may have been trolling, but it does seem like dude may have been spending way too much time online, which is pretty dangerous for young men these days. I haven't heard much about young men being radicalized to the left online, but I'm sure that's the way Kash and co are likely to try to paint this.

I read that and it’s hanging me up some now, and I don’t want to be. The bullet inscription “Fascist…catch!” is another factor that’s holding me back from jumping on the “groyper did it” train…and I REALLY WANT TO BE ON IT.Not really sold on the Groyper angle yet either, but I think the angle is that he might have some Boogaloo Bois accelerationist tendencies - i.e., he was happy to frame it as someone on the left to enflame the already intense divide between the left and the right. Who the fuck knows, though.

"Leftist." Who talks like that in real life? Me thinks his apparent high school buddy grew up to enjoy red hats.
That's the issue with all of this - everyone's on a team, so you have to take this sort of shit with a grain of salt. It would be great to actually see what he's been up to online, but I'm incredibly skeptical that the results of any such forensic work will be accurate coming out of this administration.

Yeah, it's not the shooter. Not unless he bought the house at 83 N Lee Ln when he was 16.

Yeah, looks like you're right. Home was in the name of Tyler and Makayla Robinson, and a quick search turned up this guy, a UVU grad who mentioned Makayla in a post ("I love this beautiful woman with all my heart! ❤ I ... Photo shared by Makayla Dalton Robinson "):

Turns out that there IS another Tyler Robinson in south Utah that might have been a Trump supporter.

In St. George Utah? Probably not that common.
This. St. George is right next to Washington, UT, the shooter's hometown. This is almost certainly him.
EDIT: See later post. Looks like there was another Tyler Robinson in that area.

The actual evidence won't matter. We're going to have 2 (or more) versions of the "truth" on this, especially with the MAGA-fication of the FBI.
Going forward, red states are going to start trying to change the laws of criminal procedure so that they can convict folks in "politically-motivated/involved" crimes by majority decision, since getting a unanimous verdict is going to be increasingly difficult in this environment.

My thoughts are it’s a shame Kirk didn’t live through the shooting. It would have been better if he had lived long enough for his George Wallace transformation.
Remember which timeline we're in - no way he would have redeemed himself. He would have turned into a super villain.

Everyone should be hammering Trump mercilessly about this. The additional context from the book should leave no possibility for him to shrug this off. I fear that a lot of people may end up dying as a result of the Trump administration's efforts to distract from this.
Not to be that guy, but ... ummm ...
