13 Million Dollar Man
"Georgia coach Kirby Smart gets massive raise, becomes college football's highest-paid coach"
JOHN BRICE 6 HOURS AGO
Two national titles in the previous three years. Record numbers of Georgia Bulldogs players being selected in the NFL Draft. Consistently sold-out Sanford Stadium crowds.
Kirby Smart broke the University of Georgia's four-decade national title drought and has elevated the program to arguably stand alone in college football.
Now, Georgia's athletics board is making sure Smart also stands alone in the sport -- as its highest-paid coach. On Thursday, school officials formally approved a raise and extension to Smart's contract atop the Bulldogs program. The new deal includes a raise of $1.75 million per season and now thrusts Smart atop the coaching salary leaderboard at $13 million.
In becoming college football's first-ever $13 million coach, he also zoomed past the $12 million mark -- which also had not previously been awarded in the marketplace. He's also locked down at Georgia for the next decade through 2033.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney previously was the sport's highest-paid coach at $11.5 million, per public records.
Smart's deal Thursday was approved in Georgia's annual athletics board meeting and shared publicly.
Since taking over at his alma mater prior to the 2016 season, Smart since has guided the Bulldogs to six seasons of 11 or more wins since 2017, a trio of College Football Playoff appearances, two CFP titles and an overall 94-16 slate.
Georgia's 86-11 mark since 2017 is the best in Power 4.
In addition to rewarding Smart, Georgia officials also extended the contract and raised the salary of athletics director Josh Brooks.
The athletics board also pushed Brooks' deal through the end of this decade and increased his salary to $1.275 million in the coming year, with guaranteed raises of $100,000 each subsequent year.
Both Brooks and Smart also have myriad bonus compensation opportunities in their respective contracts that could help Smart earn an additional seven figures while Brooks also can garner six-figure bonus payments pending various athletics and academic performances.

This year's list also includes the top strength coaches in the profession, where two guys are making $1 million, while a few others are not far off.
Michigan's Ben Herbert and Oklahoma State's Rob Glass lead the way in pay for strength coaches, with each making $1 million annually.
The top five strength coaches are rounded out with Ohio State's Mickey Marotti ($882,238), Iowa's Raimond Braithwaite ($760,000), and Florida's Mark Hocke ($750,000).

The highest-paid offensive line coaches in college football: 2024 edition
ZACH BARNETT 17 HOURS AGO
The goal of this exercise is to pinpoint, as best we can, the going rate for coaching at each position across major college football. And I believe we've done so at the offensive line.
Seven major college programs will pay their offensive line coach $600,000 in 2024, and seven more are within $50,000 of that number in either direction.
That works out to $125,000 per player on the field each snap, and roughly $40,000 per scholarship player on the roster.
No position coach is asked to manage and develop more players and, outside of quarterback, no position group has more responsibility on its broad shoulders. Good luck winning with a poor offensive line.
And, on a per-capita basis, no position group is paid less per player.

Who is going to be UTSA's qb? Nothing about the Michigan passing attack is scary.
Guessing it's Josh McCown's son... played at Colorado in 2022, UTSA in 2023.
