  1. Caught the Steve documentary.  Part 1 was fascinating about how he got started in entertainment and his education.  Part 2 drifted a bit but there is minute or two about Plains, Trains, and Automobiles that made it all worthwhile.

  2. I remember being a kid and my mom letting me stay up late on Monday night to watch OJ play football.  He was my favorite football player.  I even had one of those faux football jerseys with his number on it(If you grew up in the 70's you know what I am talking about).  Always got a kick watching him on TV, from Roots, to Commercials and then in the movies like Towering Inferno and of course Nordberg in the Naked Gun series.

If these were my only memories of him, I would probably be pretty bummed about now.  But they are not and I have nothing but indifference for his passing.  He will be remembered for getting away with murder and for the suffering it caused along with punchlines and parodies.

  3. Dogtown and Z-Boys caught my eye when they were rebroadcasting it a few years ago.  It was originally released in 2001.  To me, its the epitome of what a documentary should be.  It's subject matter may be 'foreign' to you but it is still an interesting and entertaining watch.  It's about skateboarding in 1970's California.  These guys were basically the precursors to the likes of Tony Hawk and his peers and those that came after that.

Count me as one who never knew Steve Martin was born in Waco.  only good thing to come out of Waco?  father moved the family to California when he was five. one lucky SOB.

I'm from Waco... I don't know if that proves your point or contradicts it...

I knew Martin was from there though... can't wait to watch the documentary.  He was taking off when I was growing up and SNL was must see TV.

Finished 'The New Look' last night.  I am not a history of fashion but there were things that he created almost 80 years ago that would still be considered fashionable in todays world.   It got dusty during the finale.

    Spoiler

Re: The New Look, I may have mentioned this before... but how has the Chanel brand still continued to prosper?

Caught the title only... but yep, bought a Swash in March of 2020 and it is one of the best if not the best thing I have ever bought.  I did have to drop electrical behind the toilet but it was all money well spent.

Remote still has original batteries in it too.

  6. Been watching Loudermilk on Netflix.  In a episode (season 3) I watched last night, one of the guys in the group is selling Toto's.  They mention how the Japanese have it down with not wiping their asses and how far US has fallen because we are still butt wipers.  Of course, I say this as an enlightened non butt wiper (at least at home.).

    YMMV ...

Another "special" tip - keep an eye on the tile count.  Once it nears 20, consider whether or not you need to change strategy on any big words you are trying to build/complete.

Hehehe, I just go into panic mode! Seriously though, thanks for chiming in!

I'm probably not the best person to ask, but I consistently score in the 20%-ish range. Bernorange, however, has to be one of the best out there, as he's in the top 1% on the reg.

A couple of things I try to do is maximize the bonus point tiles and not use them all at once too early. I also never try to build a word without having a crossword to take on more points (remember you can later add an S at the end of the word if your hand is forced so that you can always later build a crossing word at the tail end of it if you know one with the letter S). Also, I freely use their dictionary in the upper right hand of the puzzle, because so many of the eligible words are just fucking weird.

I am either in the 20% range or in the 'potato' range.  Thanks!  I do use that little dictionary and there are some definite 'wtf' words in there.

  9. Don't have a pic...

Went to Hays City Store last night and grabbed a spot on the fence rail next to the out door dining area.  Came back out and some 'more-money-than-brains-and-human-decency-piece-of-shit' parks their Ford 450 in the parking spot next to our vehicle.  There is no way in hell that that fucking monstrosity is fitting in a parking spot in that parking lot to begin with.  Fucker's left driver side duallies parked well over the line towards our vehicle and to top it off, the fucker didn't even have the courtesy to fucking pull all the way up into the space.

Hays City Store has an old pasture converted into a parking and is perfect for shit stains like that but I guess its easier for folks to be assholes than courteous.

it was so small on the screen nobody could read it anyway.

Yeah, they fucked that whole segment up with the people dancing and singing live and the camera shots of the screen in the theater showing the deceased.

Trix was an absolute monster during PMS. The poor kids had no idea what was happening. "mommy's making her mad face again". I really thought she would murder me at times.

Her going through menopause was sweet relief for all of us. Hot flashes were about it, she's through it, on hormone replacement. All is good.

I can relate to this.  My wife, who I adore and love beyond words, was unpredictable regarding what mood she was in during PMS.  She could have been used has a psychological warfare weapon and it would have ended many a conflict.
    Menopause has been a blessing.

    Vegans.

Our new receptionist has dropped vegan into our conversation several times. Usually about trying a new vegan restaurant, or her family’s favorite vegan dish.

Next time she does that, I’m gonna tell her about the new BBQ joint or steakhouse just to see blue she reacts.

I would take it a step further and say that they let you pick the animal you want to eat... "its a new concept, 'pen to table'... they let you pick your protein from living livestock.  they give you the option to pet your dinner before they slaughter it."
