One of the hardest things to do in football is try to locate the ball while keeping track of your man with the ball in the air.

There is a reason everyone has complained about it for the last 15 years as teams have been throwing the ball more and it’s not an issue isolated to Texas

I agree but it is still frustrating to see.  You would think think this is something that could be mitigated.  I mean, people do make money to figure this shit out.  I know it happens in the pros a lot these days too.

  2. I miss those days of having It’s A Wonderful Life on a loop and putting together stuff. It helped that my kids were very appreciative for what they got even in the leanest of times.

One winter before I had a family I worked at Target as a night stocker. My job was putting together bicycles and grills for displays.

  3. bowls used to matter more. there were probably less and the games were celebrations of the season, now with play offs the bowls are kinda stupid. they do get better as Jan 1 approaches but that used to be the main event, interesting match ups over the holidays. now the main event is the playoff so the bowls have lost A LOT of luster.

I remember the days when 7-4 or 8-3 was cutting it close to get to a bowl game.

As long as they put in a law that says if you get a speeding ticket or other moving violation during the ages of 16 to 25, you lose your license for a year.   Not saying the premise of the original post is totally wrong either.

That being said, eye tests every year after a certain age needs to be a thing... saying this as a dude of somewhat advancing age that has not set foot in a DMV in about 10 years and now cannot drive at night without lenses.

Is this for real? We watch most of the games that are on OTA on OTA at the tailgate. 4k uncompressed. Highest possible quality you can get is from OTA - how do none of you own a $15 thing that is so awesome.

you can go get one at Best Buy, Walmart, anywhere that sells tvs really. If you are someone who can’t be bothered to go into a store you can get one from anywhere on the internet.

seems to only work on desktop.

If you are talking about the rectangular device, I had one of those at one point.  I could only get a relative handful of channels compared to what I can pick up now with the HD antenna in the attic.  Had an app that helped set up optimum direction.   Breeze to set up.  Only thing that took effort was getting the cable run down to my cable\ethernet hub and even that was minimal. Only problem I have had was either Spectrum or ATT, for some reason, cut the cable and I had to re-run another.  I discovered that early this fall when DirecTV was squabbling with NBC provider and need an alternative so I could catch Sunday night football.  Like I mentioned, FOX can be a little iffy depending on the weather but that is it.

tl;dr - So what if I have a HD antenna?  I am old.  Get the fuck off my lawn.

  6. So with an old school antenna, you can still get this in Austin?  We have that since Google Fiber shit the bed on cable TV.  So my regular KVUE signal will still work or do I need to cut a bitch?

I live in Kyle and can pick up KVUE without issue with HD antenna. Fox channel is a little iffy.

i have long maintained that spending my entire childhood, from as early as i can remember,  watching Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and The Electric Company, usually several times a day, was absolutely crucial to my mental and intellectual development and my eventual success in life. ❤️

Don't undervalue the impact of Looney Tunes.  From a fine arts \ music standpoint, it introduced many of us to opera, classical music, and jazz.  They referenced great works in literature and movies.  Undoubtedly, there were moments of out and out brain bashing but still it had its moments.  And even in those most violent of displays, you would still hear different voices coming from the orchestra.

Johnathan Entwhistle is probably my favorite rock bassist.  Technically graceful but beastly.  Didn't contribute much in terms of songwriting (a little, but not much).  And never really varied much in live performances from the studio sound.  But when Pete handed him a song, he intuitively rocked the bass line and stood up the backbone of the Who's classic stadium rock sound.  Charles Mingus took bass in a completely new direction with his stylings and sound.  Few know his name but his timestamp is all over rock 'n roll.  John Paul Jones probably another great example of not the best or most powerful on the actual instrument, but between his songwriting and arranging and then delivering on stage-tell me who was better?  And then somebody like Geddy Lee.  I've been listening closely to Rush for 35 years, never once had to take a breath to appreciate the bass line in a Rush song.  But Geddy's songwriting and bringing the bass as a layer on top of Peart and Lifeson, that's his gift.  Plus a kickass keyboard player to boot.  Who can just spank out the best riff line on a 5-string bass?  Probably the fat dude from Ben Harper's Innocent Criminals, Juan Nelson.  Who writes the best fo the bass?  Whose bass stands out the most in songs?  Who can let the songwriters craft the sound and bring the best complimentary, yet individualized bass line, to the table?  That's why "Best Bassist" and "Best Drummer" and "Best Guitarist" and "Best Keyboardist" rock lists are absurd.  Elton John?  Great showman, very good piano player, writes fantastic melodies, almost Jerry Lee Lewis like on stage behind the ivories, brings in a great lyricist like Bernie, but he'd never make it on stage at Carnegie Hall based on piano chops alone.  But overall, is he a great pianist/keyboardist because of all those other skills?  Absolutely, one of the ten best of all time and his songs are legend but there's never gonna be a mastercourse in his keyplaying skills.  Almost any bass player I know can play any John Paul Jones bassline with little practice.  But they can't write or arrange like John and certainly could never keep up with John Bonham.  That's why Jonesey is legend and nobody knows who the bass player from Def Leppard is.

Rep for bringing up Mingus.  If you want to get somewhere in a hurry throw on 'II B.S'. That song was actually featured in a Volkswagen commercial years ago.  Anyways, he is the first artist I go to when I feel like listening to Jazz.

    Jimi

I went to an Experience Hendrix concert in San Antonio a few years ago.  I have an autographed photo and ticket stub from Billy Cox plus a pic of Hendrix in a frame hanging on my office wall.  At the time I got the autographs, I asked if I could shake his hand and he obliged.  I thought about not washing my hand for quite a long time.
