  1. UK's defense held aggy to 14 pts in regulation.  Bama gave up 23 to the same bunch.

Also the Tide's offense has become strangely dependent on big plays in the passing game.  Aggy is the closest thing they've played to a real defense and Bama was barely able to generate 100 rushing yards against them.  The second best defense UA has faced is likely Arkansas State.

MAN IT TOOK A COMPLETE MELTDOWN OF OU FOR TEXAS TO GET A WIN. YOU DOMINATED. LAST SECOND FIELD GOAL AND ALL. EVERYONE KNEW DEFENSE SUCKED. THANKS FOR GETTING MIKE FIRED. GOOD THING YOUR SENIORS GOT TO WEAR THE HAT AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE THEY LEFT.

You seem confused and have it completely backwards.  Texas utterly dominated the game for 3 quarters.  It took an epic meltdown by the Texas D to give OU false hope of a comeback.

There is no rule stating you need a conference championship game to get into the playoffs. Guarantee you OU or Texas is not getting left out like TCU did in 2014.

There is absolutely no reason for rematches in a round robin conference schedule. Playoffs or no playoffs.

At least they were ahead of the curve in something.  One might even call them somewhat of a national leader in the participation trophy movement.

Do you remember how Texas fans were so incensed the last 2 years when our offense had all these awesome weapons, talent at WR, QB, and RB, and still couldn't put two 1st downs together? It's because, fundamentally, you have to threaten a power run - otherwise the defense just tees off on your lanes and makes throwing even a quick slant impossible (dropping LBs and DBs just love to run those things back for easy TDs).

Baylor is exactly that. Even down to the screaming about how bad their OC is.

If this were a 7 on 7, Baylor would own. Their receivers a quick, wily, and talented. If Charlie Brewer gets time, he's going to find an open man. That open man will be tough to tackle. Baylor gets huge chunks of yards on long rainbow passes that land at the boundary over the backside shoulder.

The problem is, the Texas defense cannot by typically read pre-snap. They jump, shift, fake pressure, drop, and roll coverages to an insane degree. As such, Texas fans are likely to see the very familiar attempts to swing passes to RBs, pitches to WRs, etc in order to slow the rush or avoid pressure. I don't see it working well.

There is simply no cure for an OL that can't block an inside run.

A coach can recruit skill players.  But he has to BUILD an offensive line.  Baylor's looks like it's 2 years away from being below average but serviceable.

They will handle it better than Baylor. Remember, Tech doesn’t have Art Briles or Ken Starr

It's not as if they could handle thing worse than Baylor.  I'm not sure that's physically possible.

Very good though I'd say the jury is still out on the "closet" part of closet racism.

Denzel Mims is a legit weapon on the outside for Baylor. He's in the discussion, along with Hollywood Brown, Jalen Reagor, and David Sills, as one of the best WRs we'll see in conference play.

Hasty is potentially a very dangerous runner.  And Charlie Brewer can buy time and convert with his running ability.  If Baylor scores some TDs they will likely do so on off schedule plays where Brewer scrambles around until he can find an open man.  Good thing they play behind a dog crap OL or they might actually be dangerous.

The Baylor offense is a strange mix of the spread that Texas football players are accustomed to and the power running game that Rhule knows from his days at Temple. He doesn't have the personnel to run either well at this point and its production is inconsistent. Last year at one point despite their W/L record they were one of the most explosive teams in the country by the metrics that measure that quality. They still haven't established an offensive identity and it shows.

They are pretty explosive in the passing game.  325 YPG passing - I think they're top 10 in the country in that stat.  They're also at 174 YPG on the ground.  That's also pretty good.

  10. When Herman talked about how much his offense was limited by lack of a true TE last year I took it with a grain of salt.  Figured it was just one of those routine excuses coaches trot out for poor performance.  At the time I didn't realize just how literal-minded Herman is.

This year has absolutely made a believer out of me.  You can see Beck absolutely caving in the edge contain man on those QB sweep plays.  When he double teams with Cosmi, they are pushing DEs and OLBs so far back that the ILBs' pursuit lanes are cut off.  And we're seeing more key conversions on pass receptions by our TE than any time since David Thomas graduated.  It's hilarious to watch a LB "beat the block" only to realize he's let a 267 lb man beat him in coverage.

I've started listening to Herman a lot more carefully after realizing he's actually answering the question instead of giving a canned response like most coaches / IVR systems.

Agree. It was just that split second of the ball leaving his hand and seemingly a bit high, before realizing he was throwing to LJH.

Then LJ goes all Inspector Gadget, reaches up and casually plucks the ball out of the air.

  12. OU's defense may be a steaming pile but Gallimore is still a big space eating DL at 330 lbs.  One of the keys to the rushing attack was to get movement against this guy with a double team on inside runs.  If you watch the first drive you'll see the Texas OL drive him 5-6 yards off the LOS twice on the opening drive.  On the first play (after the penalty) Gallimore is lined up on Vahe, either head up or inside shade, it's hard to tell from the youtube video.  The double team of Vahe and Shackleford drives him straight back allowing Sam to run behind them and make a cut off the block.

On 1st and goal from the 9, the double team is by Vahe and Anderson.  The run is to the left and they push #90 well to the right and about 3 yards deep.  Watson picks up 4 yds.  On the next play the double is Shack and Kerstetter, which drives Gallimore to the goal line.  Beck misses the kick out block on #18 and he turns the play back inside.  It would have been a 3 yd gain but the play is negated by illegal formation penalty.

If you're going to run inside on a 3-man line, you have to get movement on the nose.  Texas did just that to #90 Gallimore with double teams on the opening drive.  It set the tone for the game and a day where the aggressive Sooner defense would get a whole 3 TFLs, only one of which came in the running game.

Stanford is pretty fucking trash I wouldn't take them over aggy at pyle field. Yeah fuck aggy but let's be reasonable.

With Bryce Love they are clearly a better team than aggy.  Without him you're correct.

I'd love to see them play SC.

Aggy will get their shot to prove it against Auburn and MS State.  But USC, Stanford, TCU and Sparty would beat aggy easily.  I like Va Tech, TTU or Okie Lite's chances as well.

But the real problem is that aggy is being ranked ahead of ONE loss teams like Wash St and Iowa.

  15. Capable and likely are two different things.  The only semi-decent defense WVU has seen is K-State, who gave up 35 pts on 13 possessions.  WVU scored 40 against Kansas and 42 against Tech.  To me they look like a good offense but not exactly terrifying.  Grier is a very good QB but he's also thrown 6 picks in 3 conference games.  The Mountaineers are dangerous because they combine a strong offense with an above average defense.  That's something none of the other leading conference opponents have.
