And enjoy. It’s as good a television product as has ever been produced.

Yeah I believe Jon Hamm confirmed this. He said some of his younger co-stars smoked the real things, and became sick during shooting.

    Winner: Houston Rockets

No matter its follow-up moves, Houston would have been an offseason winner on the virtue of the Kevin Durant trade alone. That's how deeply the Rockets won the Durant deal, acquiring a picture-perfect solution to their greatest weakness while not losing any of their best young players or draft picks in return.

But the Rockets didn't stop after adding Durant. They also signed Dorian Finney-Smith to a four-year, $53 million contract; signed Clint Capela to a three-year, $21.5 million pact; signed Fred VanVleet to a newly manageable contract; signed Jabari Smith Jr. to a reasonable extension; and re-signed Jae'Sean Tate, Aaron Holiday and Jeff Green to round out the roster.

The end result of all this activity is a deep, versatile roster that can beat opponents in all sorts of ways: with defense, rebounding, size, physicality, youth, experience, Durant's shotmaking genius. The Rockets will challenge the Oklahoma City Thunder for the unofficial title of deepest team.

The Rockets will also challenge the Thunder for a more official title, because Houston looks like the second-best team in the West -- and therefore the greatest threat to Oklahoma City's chance at becoming the first repeat champion since Durant's Warriors in 2017 and 2018.

This isn't a perfect roster. Houston will be extremely dependent on VanVleet, now in his 30s and past his prime, because of a lack of backcourt depth. (A second-year leap from No. 3 pick Reed Sheppard, who averaged just 4.4 points in 12.6 minutes per game as a rookie, would be a major development for Houston.) The frontcourt rotation could also get messy if qualified players think they aren't getting as many minutes as they deserve; with Capela joining Alperen Sengun and Steven Adams, Houston might be leaning too far into its effective-in-doses two-center alignments.

But those are small quibbles with an otherwise stacked roster. The Rockets ably juggled their cap sheet, replaced Dillon Brooks with Finney-Smith -- who's not as comfortable as a point-of-attack defender as Brooks, but that's not an issue for a team with Amen Thompson and Tari Eason -- and upgraded from the inefficient Jalen Green to Durant, one of the most efficient perimeter scorers in NBA history. That's how to win the offseason.

    ESPN loved our off-season.

    Writer?

  3. How does the thread feel about John Hollinger? He was pretty dismissive of the Rockets chances. “They only have one PG they trust.”

Lowe chimed in with a “DFS doesn’t shoot it well enough to worry other teams.”

They then both jerked each other off the Spurs. “Smart to stay out of the Durant sweepstakes. Kornet is a really good back up center. Such a smart move, good contract. Called Vassell a blue chip prospect (he’s on his second fucking contract and has been in the league since 2020). Keeping their powder dry for Giannis.”

Not a peep about Spurs being too cute, Giannis staying with the Bucks, Wemby staying healthy, or the possibility of the Spurs not even making the playoffs. They really are the armchair GMs’ darling.

They did acknowledge San Antonio being a bitch to fly in and out of and residents like Bud Light Lime.

Asked if surgery is an option for Yordan Alvarez, Astros GM Dana Brown responded, “It’s too early to tell right now. I hope not. We’ll know after he sees the specialist.” -

    The End GIF

What was the in game update? I just heard the tail end of Blummer’s discussion. “Hand isn’t healing. No progress.”

I think he’s had hand issues before. It feels like they’re going to have to put a plate in there or something drastic.

    Duncan Robinson to the Pistons

Bro sees OKC as the defending champs and Hou and DEN upgrading their rosters and they can’t even find a center.

If it was only that simple. Lowe’s LeBron expert thinks he wants to maximize his earnings in his remaining season. So a buyout + another contract. Allegedly Bron thinks the league owes him after he took less money a couple times.

It sounds like Lowe ultimately thinks he stays, but he wants to nudge the Lakers into win now mode again and stop their efforts to save money to build around Luka.

Sounds like there’a some friction between Bron/Rich Paul and Pelinka. Pelinka might actually want to be a real GM.

It appears the Rockets are not worried about ball handlers, maybe they think they can get better value at the trade deadline for that spot after seeing what they have/need

Locked On Rockets think they’re all in on FVV, Amen, and Reed being the primary ball handlers with some Holliday minutes.

I’d argue that Holliday can barely dribble.

    Sherman > Gardner > Fineman

Ashley Padilla is the best looking cast member, and it’s not very close. Gardner’s face is aging oddly. Go back and watch some previous seasons.

Free agent forward Dorian Finney-Smith has agreed to a four-year, $53 million deal with the Houston Rockets, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Free agent guard Ty Jerome has agreed to a three-year, $28 million deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, with a player option in Year 3, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

Free agent Gary Trent Jr. agreed to a two-year, $7.5 million deal with a player option to return to the Milwaukee Bucks, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

So we could've signed both Ty Jerome and Gary Trent Jr. for less than DFS cost us?

Uh Oh Omg GIF by ESPN

Trent Jr got what he got because he can’t play defense.

Ty Jerome would have been a nice piece at SG. No argument there.

DFS was so expensive because he’s a really good defender, and a 41% 3 point shooter. I believe the Lakers were 14-5 in games he started. Obviously that record is skewed because of the Luka acquisition, but it provides some insight on how important he was to them.

I think there was a way to sign DFS, Capela and Jerome. I wish they had gone that direction.

[HAYNES] BREAKING: Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is not pleased with the team’s decision to waive Damian Lillard, league sources tell me.

Spurs just offered Harrison Barnes and a training table for Giannis.

the Bucks sniping Ayton would be the funniest thing ever. Laker land would melt down after Palinka would fail to land a center because of *checks notes* Jake Laravia

Laravia might my favorite non Rocket now. Those are the thirstiest Instagram DM’s I have ever seen.

    Worth it.

Well, this is an excellent show so far and I'm glad I watched it, although it can be kind of slow in parts.  I was not expecting Manuel and Antonio to be taken down so expeditiously.  Then I expected them to team up with Jimenez from prison and be a problem.  Then I was really not expecting Andy Garcia to take out Jimenez.   What is Ainsley's purpose, other than to be hyper-sexualized super-annoying eye candy?  At least Cooper is trying to do something with himself.   All she did was attend a strip club with senior citizens, and it wasn't even her idea.  Send her off to Tech and make the character recurring, at most.  What is the deal with Billy Bob having annoying TV daughters?   Don Draper was taken out pretty quick as well; guess 2 leading men is 1 too many, or they needed screen minutes for Andy.   It looks like cartel financing is going to be a big part of Tommy and Cami's gamble in season 2.  Hope this show doesn't get Goliath'd going forward.

I believe their ratings were insane for a  non Netflix streaming only show + it’s Taylor Sheridan. They’ll do as many seasons as they want.

I hate to lose Sengun, but Durant and Giannis would completely wreck shop. My biggest doubt is Giannis actually wanting to leave Milwaukee.

This. Giannis doesn’t want to leave. The Bucks gave him a shot, remained loyal to him, and gave him literally everything he’s wanted short of putting all of his brothers on the roster.

I think Giannis also understands the Bucks are screwed next season, but they’ll have some options in 2026 when Dame’s contract is expiring.
