  1. There’s definitely some mental aspect to this too.

Everyone I know that is taking it currently has some major mood swings and having erratic behavior. It’s to the point where some people we keep at an arms length away because the behavior is so unpredictable and not worth the headaches.

  2. Turf as in fake grass? Round up won't do anything to plastic. Fire away.
Actual live grass requires knowing a couple of other things. What kind of weed? How long has the sod been down? What sort of turfgrass?
Pulling nutgrass can make it worse. Any latent tubers get a hormone signal to sprout leaves when a nearby stalk is pulled. Some stuff like prostrate spurge has a super fast life cycle. It can go from germination to producing seed in as few as 14 days. I still pull weeds, but I use pre-emergents and post emergents as needed.
I don't give a damn if it's 'organic' or 'chemical'. I want it to work. I'll use vinegar or glyphosate. I won't use corn gluten because it's a fucking waste of time and money.
Know your target and the environment it's in and you're halfway there.

Yup, artificial! Appreciate the quick response, most things said good to go but I’d then come across the random blog saying don’t do it. In retrospect, it was probably a more “do everything natural!” blog.
  3. Anyone have any recommendations for ways to kill weeds popping through newly installed turf?

It sounds like regular weed killer will do, but want to make sure before ruining the turf and putting green.

It’s nothing crazy, just here and there from the seeds and weeds that grew through the construction of the pool. I’ve been pulling the root best I can, but it’s hard as I don’t want to pull any of the turf itself.

  4. Finally took the keys over for our pool (will post pictures once landscape is done).

Chlorine levels are super high, but chalking it up to them shocking the shit out of it and having the chrloinator on full blast before handing over to me to maintain it.

My plan was to let it come down naturally (rain water, filling it with water and setting chlorinatior to min) over the next couple days. Especially since the pH is spot on. Am I wrong for this? As a kid, my mom spent so much time trying to add chemicals to balance out the other chemicals and it was a back and forth game. Where my dad would just end up draining half the pool and refill it when she’d go out of town and it would be spot on for months.

Another question is run times (rpm and schedules). I’m seeing several different things and they’re all conflicting. Any advice?

Any good recs on pool stores, where best to buy supplies, websites/message boards to follow? I live in Wylie for reference.

  5. I have multiple TVs in my man cave and am a chord cutter so games I want to watch and flip between isn’t a big deal for me.

The game changer not being talked about is legalized betting. As more states legalize gambling and if game times are staggered enough you’ll see more adoption.

I have friends who never cared about sports or only care about one sport (not football). As they e gotten exposure to sports betting they’ve gotten way more into sports. That is the game changer I imagine Amazon is betting on.

Bars are starting to recognize this and are doing a much better job pre-setting their TVs with various platforms and marking the TVs so when you show up it’s pre determined what is on where. This is most likely the future and Amazon is going to get into the sports betting world with their own app or acquire someone.

  6. I now recall this being an issue back when we did this the last time, but I have been traveling for work the past three nights, and when I do my burpees on the carpeted floor of a hotel room, I sometimes find that my big toe hurts right at the bottom joint, almost like what I assume turf toe might feel like.  It persists even after I'm done with burping.
I do my burpees barefoot (wore holes in a lot of socks early on last time...) and I also notice that sometimes my toenails will sort poke or gouge the neighboring toe.
Neither of these things happen when I am at home on thicker carpet with substantial padding underneath, or in any other context, for that matter.
Have any other work travelers happened to notice either of these phenomenon?

    Not yet.

I recommend doing them in the hotel gym. Doing sets of 10 and in between doing curls or something similar. Breaks it up enough plus the floor in the gym works well with shoes.

  7. After the initial struggles of being incredibly sore and doing these while hunger over, it’s definitely getting much easier.

No more hip, shoulder, ankle, etc pops.

If you don’t own a massage gun, highly recommend it. I’ve been adding in bicep curls, squats and shoulder work and the daily soreness is marginal compared to a week ago.

  8. Had my first extravagant work dinner of the year tonight (Brennan's) - managed to eat slightly less than I normally would have, but still very much a win/lose situation...
Likely won't have time to do any extras tomorrow, but I think that I will tack on a few extras over the weekend as a meaningless but symbol penance...

This is what concerns me and trying to build the habit now before work events and travel pick up.

  9. My goal is to start upping the workout around the burpees and the burpee count every couple days.

The last two days I knocked out the 30 in 2 sets of 15 (as opposed to smaller set counts) and have been adding in curls. The last 2 days I did 30 reps an arm after the burpees of bicep curls with 20 pound weights.

It’s crazy how each day I’m less sore as I’ve been increasing the “strain”.

Next week I’m going to work on continuing upping the above and adding in peloton rides again and add kettle bell lifts to the above curls.

  10. Upper body was pretty sore today so the push-up part was a little more difficult than yesterday. I’ve only been doing peloton bike workouts lately so no upper body strength.

Waiting to crank out the 30 after my hangover was gone was a much better move instead doing it while hungover yesterday.

Any recommendations on any quick upper body workouts? What happens is when I start getting busy with traveling I stop being consistent with the peloton app workouts and eventually end up taking a month or two off before trying to get back into it. I want something I can pair with the burpees and keep that as a basic routine that I’ll have no excuse not to do. I’d prefer it to not involve weights, but maybe resistance bands as those are easy to pack and travel with?

  11. My wife and I have put down a very strict no politics discussion or we will literally pack up and leave (precedent has been set).

It’s made family gatherings very enjoyable and they all know not to try and see if we’re bluffing.

Occasionally after people have had to much to drink, it starts to sneak out a little bit, but a quick “fuck off” or leaving the room gets things back to the agreed upon no politics very quickly.

Depending on the family gathering location, we also get a hotel room instead and it gives us a nice reprieve to do our own thing a little bit - go downtown to a nice dinner, bar hop, etc with cousins/family friends who are more like minded.

Our families are both really spread out, so people go out of their way to enjoy the limited time we have together, especially as everyone’s families have gotten a lot bigger with marriages over the past couple years.

The holidays used to be something we would walk on egg shells as something would always happen, but once we spoke up and laid down the law, things have been so much better. Highly recommend.

  12. Fuck it’s hot.

My dumbass got a 1:04 tee time. After each drive after the first 5 holes I’d get dizzy. Hit amazing tee shots and couldn’t recover enough and would fuck up the approach shot.

Granted, I’m blaming the heat for my shitty irons.

  13. If you have a reason to be worried call the applicable repair company for a quote and they’ll inspect what you’re worried about.
if you have no settling cracks, no water issues, electrical all acts correctly then I would just count your blessings and pocket the money.  The only thing I get inspected regularly is my HVAC (though I will have a plumber descale and inspect my tankless water heater every two years going forward).
Inspectors always try to find something, sure they could uncover something major but 9 times out of 10 with a new build that “major” issue won’t turn into a big deal for at least another decade.
Standard inspection report bullshit includes poor grading, poor/insufficient  flashing, settling cracks (that they recommend getting a foundation inspector to look at), roof concerns (same as what I just typed), caulking around windows, tile/grout/caulking around kitchen/bath, leaky sinks/toilet, filters need to be replaced, dryer hose full of lint, HVAC not balanced, loose railing, doors/windows binding, vegetation touching the home…

Why can’t you just walk around the house and give it a good looking over?
Foundation cracks are obvious, separated caulk is obvious, stick your head in the crawlspace and look for standing water….  Its not rocket surgery.

I have a tankless, curious to learn more about the every 2 year deal.

As far as myself, I do all that fairly regularly. Just wasn’t sure if there was something I may be missing for a couple hundred bucks. Only real “issue” was the post tension rods on the foundation had a slight exposure so I put some cement over those to prevent any water exposure.
  14. Not sure where to post, so I’ll post it here.

Wife and I are young (31), built our first home and planned on being here for 5-7 years before upgrading.

Given current market, we decided we’re staying here and will make some of the upgrades we wanted to get on our next home on this house and save the extra money to buy a second home when the market drops.

We’re coming up on our 4th year here. Is it a good idea to have a home inspection every couple years to catch any issues with foundation, plumbing, etc? I imagine paying the 500-600 bucks to catch something early is worth it? We have zero settling issues (that I can see) but would rather get ahead on any issues that may come up to save headaches later on.
