  1. Someone bailed out the Deep Ellum debacle.
Bankhead Brewing of Rowlett, named for a century-old federal highway, will open its second location in a $3 million brewery in west Fort Worth.
The brewpub and restaurant will move into the former Deep Ellum Brewing Co., 611 University Drive. It’s one block north of West Seventh Street, which was part of the historic Bankhead Highway across America.
Bankhead Brewing opened four years ago and serves a menu of wood-fired pizzas such as the “Carnivore of Love” with meatballs and sausage or the “Little Piggy” with pork, bacon and sweet figs.
Besides pizzas, the menu includes a brisket grilled cheese, burgers and salads, along with a sriracha cheddar-beer soup.
“While other breweries are focused 90% on beer, 10% on food, we put equal focus on both,” said owner Vivek Rajbahak, a former Pabst Brewing executive involved in the company’s craft beer strategy.
Bankhead wants patrons to come in “for the amazing food” as much as for beer or drinks, he said.

Fucking love Bankhead, pre-covid we’d go there almost once a week. We live in Wylie and will definitely be visiting the FW location with the BiL.
  2. We bit the bullet and bought one.  Delivery is 2 months out.   Looks like delivered by Peloton and not a third party provider.   Let me know if any tips for moving date up closer.  Figure it wouldn't hurt to call and check in a few weeks.

The people we guilted into buying one after us all called a couple days after purchase and got their delivery date moved up significantly. Granted, that was prior the the holiday rush (which they may be just now catching up on).
  3. I can’t remember if it’s been discussed here, but Maple Branch Brewery is a nice little spot. Lots of beers on tap and they have a big indoor and outdoor space. People stay pretty spread out and it feels reasonably safe from a Covid standpoint. They are located in the Foundry District, a few blocks behind the W 7th Target.

    This.

Went there with the BiL recently, thoroughly enjoyed it.
  4. Is anyone’s tapa borked when trying to watch tweets? Or even click on them? Brings me to a twitter log in screen and when I enter my shit it tells me the account already exists

Same. The work around is to have Twitter app open and running already then it will redirect properly.

  5. My wife bought some “how to cocktail” book that walks through the “old school” ways of making cocktails. Absolutely amazing.

A 600 dollar trip to total wine to stock up (our already overstocked bar) has been worth it.

Not only do I get awesome drinks, but she makes them all for me. A nice break from my whiskey drinks and beer from the kegerator.

Only downside is I have to keep working out with her 5 days a week.

  6. I’m willing to pay for the antibodies tests, but don’t want to piss money down the drain for an inaccurate test.

I was in NYC the last week of Jan and then was in KC staying in Overland Park by the hospitals.

9 days after my last day in NYC I had a terrible cough (like never before), exhaustion, chills, a fever and nightly sweats. My wife then had the same and around the same time I had several people in the office get sick and miss several days of work.

What was weird, I felt relatively fine during the day but then by 6 or 7 at night cough came back and I was in bed by 9. Also had headaches, which I never get. (I never get hangovers).

Never had trouble breathing or felt deathly ill.

It’s one of those “oh I’m sure I had it” but who knows. Would just like to know out of curiosity.

  7. Wholly crap...it was you wasn't it?   Oh hell man, take the glory, live the dream...this is the Surly.

    Haha no it wasn’t me.

She came to visit her brother and my buddy tried to get me to hook up with her. I had another chick I was going to smash coming over to party. The next day, he confessed why he was so adamant on trying to get me to hook up with her.

  8. Not sure if weird or a compliment...

I was FwB with these two chicks who were roommates....they would sneak me in late at night.

“I want to moan louder than (insert roommates name)”

Shortly after they hated each other and one of them moved out.

    Another one...

I coached a little league baseball team and one of the kids had a single mom. One of the players (the one with the single mom) has a sister who was 18 (who I didn’t smash) but I knew had a crush on me. I went to the mom’s place while the grandparents had the kids. During sexy time she goes “my daughter would be sooo jealous”. The mom then went into full
on crazy mode and rode me like crazy.

    ‘‘Twas awesome.

  9. I didn't know this was an option for a lot of companies, so I'm a little jealous. When my company got acquired the worst thing that happened was being forced to use a company credit card instead of my personal card. Still get all the airline and hotel points etc., but I really miss the credit card miles.

Allegedly, if using a corporate AMEX card you can pay $150 (can’t remember the exact amount) and actually collect the points as well if you get a personal card as well. However, your company accounting department has to pay rather quickly otherwise you lose the points.

With the corporate approval process of releasing funds (submitting your expenses through Concur, then your boss approving, then accounting approval process, then releasing funds) the lag time apparently prevents you from collecting your points most of the time.

I had a coworker who travels pretty regularly say he tried it one year and barely broke even on it.

I never looked into it, since my travel/expenses are usually hard to predict and my boss takes forever to approve expenses. Just figured I’d throw this out there. It all may be a crock shit.
  10. I don’t have anything currently, but my grandma called me last week and told me next time I’m in town to try and drive up (they live in Chicago) and to go through their house and take what I want before anyone else does.

I’m looking forward to spending a couple days with my grandparents going through a lot of things they have in boxes that have been hidden away in their crawl space for years. It’ll be cool going through it with them to hear their stories/memories of items.

  11. We (see me) were in the market for a new truck. Went on Saturday to a dealership and played the game for a 3.5 hours. Drove 5 different f150’s, did some negotiating on prices for various trim models, etc. Once we got an offer we were good with told them we wanted to sleep on it.

Shopped around that price today. Found a dealership that beat that price. Showed up after work to visually inspect it, test drive again, etc.

Spent a little time negotiating, discussed cash only price, etc. Ended up 32% off.

We tried to lower the price even more if we would finance through them, but they won’t give a good interest rate, so cash payment it is.

  12. Just create a shared calendar under the iphone calendar.  Title it whatever, pick a color for it, and then she can invite you (via your icloud login) and then whenever she adds something to that calendar it will get added to yours.

This and it shows on your calendar and you have to accept it.

I set this up awhile ago for my now wife and I back when we were still dating and she kept “forgetting” to tell me things “we” had planned. Told her once I created the calendar, if she doesn’t put it on there and I don’t accept, I don’t have to go. Magically it’s worked wonders.

I’ve put happy hours, hanging out with my buddies, etc on there and she does the same. We even put tasks on there for each other such as calling phone carrier, calling insurance, etc. Its worked wonders on getting shit done and also respecting each other’s time.

I’ve told a couple people at work about it when they complain about their wives constantly making them do shit last minute and they implemented it and they absolutely love it.

I got my wife so trained on it that she goes in and puts football games, etc on there. I’m a Chicago sports fan and she’s a Dallas sports fan (we root for both cities) so she goes in and tries to schedule things around those games. It’s awesome. If for whatever reason something interferes with a game or something she’ll say I’m optional to attend.
