For 4 long years I supported Shaka and what he's been trying accomplish here in Austin against the wave of populist idiocy that's penalized him for rebuilding a program in a powerful Big 12 conference. Over the last 5 years the Big 12 has been the strongest basketball conference in America top to bottom, hands down. That is not up for debate.

When I said it could take up to 5 years to rebuild a program I was roundly abused, but that was the truth of the matter, and after 4 long years of extremely checkered luck here we are in year 5 and we are finally turning the corner.

Year after year of strong rercuiting has produced a seasoned and tough roster. We are ready to compete this year, and even though the Big12 remains one of the top conferences in America if not the premier conference, we're going to compete for the title this year.

We are a sweet 16 team this year. And next year, we compete for a national title. So I came back here to say to all the Shaka haters "I told you so". And I will laugh as this year unfolds and Derka become the biggest Shaka fan of us all, and as he gives all the credit to Yaklich, even though the credit belongs to Shaka.

This is what we planned for and dreamed of when we showed Rick B the door. This is the new horns basketball under Shaka, and we jack the 3 early and often, and we hit those shots, and we play D. Welcome aboard, folks.

Oy this did not age well :(

I mean we're able to fire him now (and should), but our AD is absurdly patient with people he hires.  He'll always give a coach a year (if not two) more than they deserve.  He wasn't going to fire Greg McDermott after 4 straight losing seasons.  McDermott left on his own.  Rhoads is the only high profile hire he's made that he had to fire, and again, he got a season more than he should have.

For some reason I thought his buyout was too high to fire him now. Yeah if I were ISU I would make the change now then. What a waste of Haliburton too.

This may be Gonzaga's best chance at a title as there is really no great or dominant team and they've looked the most balanced of all the "top" teams.  Duke is Duke and they'll hover around the Top throughout the season, Baylor looks damn good, maybe they can trade out Drew for Mulkey come NCAAT time.

I agree in principle that this might be their best shot but Im not sold on them either. The blowout loss to Michigan looked ok at the time because Michigan looked like the best team in the country but they are not. Oregon OT win also looks good, but Oregon also is like "WTF". Arizona was a good road win yes, and Washington was a decent road win too but neither of those were statement victories and they look as vulnerable to me as every other team in the country and their defense is...well....its not great.

I think we would only have picked up the Coastal Carolina game as a win with Dearmon calling plays.  Maybe WVU, but we kind of lucked into the win vs. Tech with the bonehead play at the end. I'll keep that WVU game as an L due to that. So 4-4 with a good shot at a bowl game.   Dearmon has made a hell of a difference in our offense. I just hope it continues and he can adapt once other teams get a good amount of film on his schemes.  KU has an outside shot at a bowl game this year, which I would never have expected at the start of this season. I thought 3 wins was our ceiling, and probably was if Koenning was still OC. We have some good WRs and some strong RBs. Stanley should have been starting the last couple years, but that dumb ass Beaty could never see it. I think every season by the end, Stanley was starting; but, only after whatever QB Beaty had brought in that year to be the starter, shit the bed. The OL is still not very good, but Stanley has mobility and with our RBs playing well, other teams have to respect the run.

The defense is doing better than I expected, considering how depleted we are there. Until we get some depth and some DL talent it will constantly struggle.

Special teams are terrible again. Our FG/PAT team is the worst I have ever seen. How many blocked kicks and missed FG/PATs do we have this season? Probably due again to our lack of talent on the OL. The kicker is probably crap as well, but hard to judge when the OL is being pushed back into him. Special teams will continue to suck until we get some talented depth or play more starters on them.

To take a big step forward we have to get some talent and depth on the defensive and offensive lines.

I mean, we fell down 17-0 against Tech but outplayed them the rest of the game. Fluke play or not, it would have went to OT and we had all the momentum.

Coastal would have been a victory for sure, and probably WVU. Texas he was OC and we still lost so we dont pick that game up. I guarantee we play TCU and OU closer than we did though.

We are currently 3-5, could have probably been 5-3 though which is remarkable all things considered. One of the two missed FGs vs Texas and Dearmon as OC and 6-2 might have been a reality.

But it's not. The reality is 3-5. If we can get to 5 wins this year I would be so absolutely thrilled with this season.

how, how, how can there be a metric by which UConn is judged inferior to Indiana over the past 20 years?

This does not look at championships, final fours, or anything. This looks at only your efficiency. Indiana and UConn's effeciency ratings over the last 20ish years have been roughly even.

Going back to 2002 when you can actually see the data posted, UConn has finished in the top 10 4 times in efficiency. The top 25 3 more times. They have been outside the top 25 10 or 11 times (i lost track) and outside the top 50 7 times.

We all rememeber the years UConn was awesome because they were unforgettable seasons but man they feast or famine. Indiana has a similar profile over the course of the 20 years.

warren buffet should almost offer a million to those who have a perfect bracket after the first weekend

Actually think he does, 1 million dollars a year for life for anyone with a perfect sweet 16 but only for those that are employed by Berkshire Hathaway. That greatly narrows down the pool and increases his odds of not having to actually pay out.

I think there's a good balance. You don't want the latter rounds to be diluted with teams that played over their heads for one game and crash back to earth, but chalk isn't all that fun either.

Then again, we saw three 12-5 upsets, so maybe I'm being greedy. Just hard to get excited about Oregon or Liberty as "cinderellas".

and a 4-13 upset. And 3 of the 4 1s were down at the half. That was somewhat exciting, if even momentarily.

You might be more butt hurt than I am

I am. I so very rarely pick Big 12 teams to win games in the NCAA other than KU because no one has shown any god damn reliability. This year I took a chance I picked you fuckers because of how you played down the stretch and you dipshits went all ISU on me AGAIN.

A fair number of close games, but too few upsets for this to be a memorable first round.

Man, unpopular opinion. I dont give a fuck about upsets. I want to see good games. Its cool if the underdog wins, but I just dont want to see a fuckton of blowouts.

  10. Fucking ISU. Plays like its a championship game against Big 12 teams in the conference tournament.

Shits the fucking bed every fucking NCAA tournament. Never fucking picking them to win another game in the NCAAs again. Fucking fucks. Fucking "home" game for them and they just choke.

    God damn. Fuck.

His grandfather coached at Nebraska and Hoiberg was born in Lincoln. He has a lot of connections to Nebraska.

MIght have to do with ISU being in the Big 12. I would very much doubt he would want to coach against the school that worships him.

I went with Michigan State beating out Duke in the East because of their impressive 10-1 record vs the Top 25 and Izzo has been a fixture in the Final 4 over the years.

Michigan in the West bracket defeating Marquette, also a respectable 7-3 vs the Top 25.

KSU beating out Tennessee in the Elite 8 for the South's final 4 berth.

In the brutal Midwest bracket I had to go with Kentucky toppling UNC in the Elite 8. Kentucky as usual is loaded with talent and can never be underestimated.

Izzo has the worst record against coach K of anyone in the history of the sport. I would not take Sparty over Duke even if Zion breaks a foot.

I got Duke, Texas Tech, UNC, and Tennessee with Duke vs Tennessee in the final.

Tech is the only team in teh Big 12 I am confident in making it past the Sweet 16, though I do have ISU and KU making it there (mostly because Im a homer on the KU pick) I dont think either survives UK/UNC, nor even makes it a good game.

OU and Baylor I have going out first round, KSU in second because I dont think they can against better competition without Dean Wade.

Not so sure BlowU deserves an invite..... Could argue B12 should be a 5-bid conference.

KU as a #4 seed with a path thru Kansas City for Sweet 16 Rd seems like backroom 💰💰 changing hands...

LOL that's cute you think we are getting to KC.

The farthest we get from home is Tulsa. Going to be a shit load of ISU fans there. If we can get past OSU, Houston is as favorable a 3 seed draw as we could get.

Get past them and we’re playing in KC.

I was thinking about this. This could be a potentially expensive ticket. Assume KU, ISU, UK and UNC all make it to KC, ffs tickets are going to be 1000 each. (That being said, we aren't making it to KC)
