He's a 34 year old "attorney" blogger/podcaster from what I can tell.  What actual experience does he have defending non-compete TRO's?  These guys appear to be a couple of activists/idealists which is fine and all but they are about to go up against real lawyers that, from what I can tell so far, have both the facts and the law on their side.  Unless they have some written communication that invalidates/weakens the contracts or something similar up their sleeve I suspect they are going to get their ass kicked.

Pretty sure Bruenig was an employment/labor attorney prior to joining a think tank/becoming a podcaster.

OSU has been thought of as having weak non-cons, but part of it goes back to the days when 6 wins wasn't a given, and Gundy still seems to like at least one FCS warmup game. But looking back, we've still almost always had a P5 noncon. Not always the crème of the crop, but P5 nonetheless.

    2002; 2004-UCLA

    2007; 2009 - Georgia

    2008; 2010 - Washington State

    2011; 2012 - Arizona

    2013 - Mississippi State (@ Texans stadium)

2014 - Florida State (@Jerryworld vs. Jameis as defending National Champs)

    2016; 2017 - Pitt

2018; 2021 - Boise State (the Big XII allowed BSU as part of its one P5 opponent rule)

    2019 - Oregon State

    2022 - Arizona State

That 2009 Georgia game was the first time I realized how much brand management work ESPN was set on doing for the SEC. Oklahoma St beat Georgia by 2 touchdowns yet the entire game all I heard was how Oklahoma St was playing SEC defense and demonstrating SEC speed in route to beating the breaks off an SEC team.  Back then the difference in talent between conferences wasn't that vast,  but every 13 year old watching games on ESPN got drummed into their heads how the SEC was the best and had the best of everything even though only 2 schools in the conference at the time deserved that level of intrigue. Now after 15 years of kids hearing that nonsense Kentucky routinely sends first rounders to the NFL.

Such an unbelievably vapid and inch deep way of offering examples of the resiliency of the enslaved. If that was truly the objective there are a myriad of stories to use as narrative devices, not this laughable "John Henry was a blacksmith therefore he was not a victim" even though he couldn't monetize that blacksmithing skill in any way whatsoever nor did he have any autonomy in exercising said skill. And another thing, can we talk about this childish bastardization of the concept of victimhood and this incessant need to not refer to actual victims of atrocities, as victims. Where is the virtue in this?

  4. The performance based pay pool that Domonique refers to in the tweet up above has no effect on the salary cap. Therefore changing the terms or benchmarks for players gaining extra pay from this pool won't have to be part of a CBA.

  5. Turns out the entire list is trash. Just a list of  random black people with skills,  most who weren't even enslaved. Oh and inexplicably they added George Washington's sister on their list of random black people with skills. A state's purported AP equivalent curriculum is based on trash like this.

Most people don't understand how insanely hard it is to transfer Twitter or YouTube or whatever subs into consistent paying Patreon patrons. You need something that people are so passionate about they're willing to pay every month for it and you have to keep them happy with whatever you're offering or they'll bounce.

I would be very impressed if they could maintain a core patron list of 500 to 1000 at $5 a month with their limited market and the disadvantages they have with the market offering several free alternatives that are more easily accessible.

I believe IJB has around 800 to 1000 patrons they maintain. I'm guessing Dan and Jake can do better than that.

Jub was ready to throw hands in that segment. He was really getting worked up at the "critics". I don't know who he was referring to specifically, but even Gordo said he was "moving away" from him.

    That was entertaining.

There's some irony here vis a vi how all the host cynically view athletes who always go and on on about their "haters" and how nobody believed in them.

You gotta feel like Bob was always the one to talk Dan into coming back when they were on the verge of leaving a couple years ago. I remember Bob mentioning having a long talk with George which did a lot to persuade dissuade him from leaving. If my inclinations are true and it was really Bob who prevented them from leaving you've gotta wonder how Dan reflected back on that time after Bob left for the Hardline only a few years later.

  9. In hindsight, Dan has often spoke admiringly of his "brother in law" Clay Travis risking it all, branching out on his own, and leaving his local Nashville station. And judging from some of the topics that Dan routinely hit on during his "Business Tuesday" segments he's at least thought a little about ways to go about monetizing a show independently from media company like Cumulus.

The AAU stuff is overblown. There are shitty AAU coaches and teams that play the wrong way and there are AAU teams that will run you off the court if you don't show up locked in. Almost every high school team worth a shit (in school play) is going to play disciplined on both sides of the ball and look for good shots.

There are more and more international players and international superstars simply as a function of the game being more popular. The best international players aren't the best because they play the "right way". Around 75% of the league's players still come from a country sporting about 3% of the world's population.

Jokic - passing savant. BBIQ on both ends off the charts. Huge frame and strong as shit and does everything on and off the court the right way. There is no "coaching" guys like that. And he was a late 2nd round pick and really honed his game in the states - not playing in Europe. Just won a title with a bunch of great American players around him.

Giannis - athletic freak that can't shoot for shit. Fairly fundamentally sound player but mainly relies on raw talent, feel for the game and athletic ability.

Luka - plays like a shitty AAU coach's wet dream. Minimal effort on D. Shows up out of shape every season. Slows the game down and runs iso plays and ball screens to death. Another guy that is just straight up ridiculously talented. Amazing player but not because he "plays the game the right way".

Embiid - total US product. Didn't start playing the game until 15 - was in the states by 16.

Then you have guys like Sabonis who is a classic Euro prototype player that got exposed in the playoffs by American defenders playing under an American coach.

The Miami Heat team that just made the Finals as an 8 seed didn't have an ounce of Euro on it. All Americans being coached by an American.

International players are getting more and more representation because more and more internationals are picking up a basketball at an early age, and on top of that they do coach and develop well and in a lot of instances play the right way. That doesn't mean that Americans aren't also being developed and coached in the right ways - and at the end of the day we still completely dominate the NBA landscape. The American share of the league will continue to decline as a basic function of world population.

We still won the last Olympics despite throwing together an awful roster last minute and asking the best American player to drag them to the medal. We can't keep relying on that - but the talent gap is still massive.

Totally agree. The best high school teams today move the ball around much more than we did when I was in high school back in the early to mid 90s. The 3pt shot changed the way to the game is played today on that level. There's a lot less pound the ball dribbling and a lot more ball and player movement by the better high school teams. This viewpoint reminds me of people who still claim they don't watch NBA because there's too much isolation, which is a totally anachronistic observation to make about today's NBA.

I don’t know if it’s scientific, but anecdotally I would agree that when there is a white dude who can really play I assume he’s from like West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, or the Great Plains states and not like Chicago or Houston something, even though there are way more white dudes in Chicago or Houston. When you’re from Whitey McWhiteville, North Dakota, where there are no black dudes, it stands to reason that the star player who gets developed is a white dude and no white kids will get discouraged from playing basketball because they think it’s a black guy’s sport.

Conversely a disproportionate number of African Americans with PhDs went to HBCUs for undergrad even though the majority of black undergraduates go to predominantly white universities.

I did not have "white dude from a town in Penobscot County, Maine that's famous for its drumstick factory"as the next big thing, but life loves to surprise you.

In my experience white athletes from predominantly white areas tend to perform disproportionately better than white athletes from more diverse areas.

So just under 6% of 85 man roster, with another 58 essentially not having chosen yet. If you plow that same percent over, it’s another 3.3 players, so basically 10% of the roster. That’s not nothing.

edit: actually never mind not all those dudes are on scholarship. I guess my perception is just anecdotal, since you see on the LHN shows Ehlinger, RoJo, Jeff McCullough and all those guys filmed at McCombs.

Pretty sure Hudson Card was in McCombs as well.
