America has faced tougher times. We have not faced tougher times as far as the electorate and how we treat each other. Trump is a symptom of a larger problem that Beto is trying to address.

Beto is going to fix America a retweet at a time. I tell my girlfriend that her "Liking" on Facebook world peace isn't going to result in world peace.

Someone should let Beto know that too.

Drinkin' buddy of mine is retired AA 777 Captain.  He said that he's been in the AA sim with a lot of foreign pilots, and that the Saudis were head-and-shoulders above everybody else.  He said he'd fly a Saudi airline without hesitation.

Because they never have to practice landing?

  3. Am I wrong to assume the lack of release on his amount raised in the first 24hrs is a bad sign? Maybe he was only popular, because he was going against Ted Cruz.

Standard ww2 era Single story 1150 sq ft home with wood siding... lots of wood rot, especially around windows. Possible to only replace window frames and a few boards of siding or will it require full replacement? What kinda cost we talking for full replacement

I was $30k+ for the whole house. We aren't replacing the whole house as only doing for the addition/ remodel part though so quote isn't precise.

  5. We are on our second old house. First house was remodeled by the previous owner. The key learning was some remodels are done very cheaply so ask questions on the extent of work and don’t be shy about asking for receipts. We saw too many homes that had the remodel done cheaply.

Even with that, we still found shit that was done poorly but not as bad as it could have been.

On our current home (1940s), we under estimated cost to redo the house but what saved us was having a quality inspector that we found not the realtor. We had $75k on the report so ultimately received $50k off from the inspection alone. I’d also suggest having a GC or professional remodeler give you a rough estimate prior to bidding. We passed on many old housed because the cost would be way too high to make the economics work for purchasing.

We budgeted close to $100k for the remodel plus minor addition and will likely spend closer to $200k due to additional scope and new issues found. We are still glad we are doing the remodel but be extremely conservative on remodel cost. We also found that pricing for remodel ranges widely with full service going for double the cost as us just finding all the right people to help us through the effort.

The biggest ripoff in our experience are the design build companies that do it all. We found our own designer, engineering and GC then sub-out certain GC parts that we found cheaper. It takes immense amount of effort to find these people, and they take advantage of the amount of time / effort to figure it out on your own.

One major cost savings is not going super high end on finishing. Go quality but we didn’t need the fanciest tiles, wood floors or cabinets. They key was to shop around.

Two quick examples: front door company wanted $2k to install / replace the front door plus cost of door. We were referred to a handyman that does it regularly and paid $450. On the addition, we were quoted $50k to $200k based on the same plans and scope.  We went with someone that could do it for $70k.

Our Goldendoodle had a virus or something last week and was throwing up so vet said to cook rice and chicken. Yesterday when it was time to eat her normal food she took a few bites and threw it up and wouldn’t eat so now the wife is cooking her chicken and rice for dinner every night  while I microwave my dinner.

    Doge : 1

    Me : 0

That happened at our house. Next time I told the girlfriend to do quality chicken, and I just ate the same food as the dog with added hot sauce.

Pro-tip: just put the chicken in an instapot

Their employers paid for their MBAs but didnt have a lock-in agreement in place? Doesnt sound right. Or you mean they went right back to their current employer? Either way when you're still tied to an employer while in school you'll most likely go back because it's the familiar route. And if your chasing immediate money post MBA other industries wont compete with consulting and i-banking.

Go to a top 20 school and you'll have no problem moving industries if you commit to the recruiting and networking sides of things. Now if your expectation is a consulting gig at McKinsey or BCG, yeah that's elite level competitive and you'll probably be disappointed.

The top tier consulting firms and I-banking give free money during school. Those companies pay back loans when you go back to work for them immediately after MBA. You would be surprised number of people who had sponsorship that the last place they wanted to end back to their prior employer as many of their peers careers accelerated by staying instead of going to get an MBA.

It wasn't just money but many industries don't want ex-consultants right after MBA.
