So is LHN gonna switch over to the baseball game or are we stuck with fucking softball until their game ends?

The guy pitching for Fullerton today had a 4.33 era in 95 innings last year. Let’s fuck this guy up

Let’s sweep those Fullerton fuckwads. Some nice pay back for ‘04. That championship series still fuckin pissed me off. We had those fuckers.
The next 12 games eases up quite a bit( no clue how good Fullerton is, same with New Mexico ) but now would be a good time to get some wins and get some confidence headed into conference play.

I'd like to point out that in 1998, Texas went 23-32-1 under second year head coach Augie Garrido. He was clearly not the answer and on rec.sports.baseball.college I participated in the Fire Augie threads.
Plus we swept LSU last year. We’re kind of on the same page here. I like Pierce. If I had it my way, he’d be here till 2035 or whatever. But Augie came in with 3 national titles under his belt from a commuter school. But here we are in year 4 making the stupidest fucking throws and errors and base running mistakes. All fixable but it’s becoming more and more of a trend than just “bad luck”.

Our standard for baseball should be higher than any sport, even football. We are the bluest of bluebooods in baseball. We‘ll see how this season plays out, but it’s looking more and more like Pierce is not our standard.
Yeah what we did from 2000-2010 should be the gold standard. I like Pierce, think he’s a solid coach but we’ll see if he’s got “it” or not. Really rooting for the guy. Especially after snagging Tulo and Huston. I guess we’ll see if he’s the guy or not in about a month. For Christ sakes please get this shit turned around. Watching Tech and and LSU and mother fucking Arkansas be the current “top dogs” in college baseball makes me fuckin sick. And yeah I know we beat the pigs on Saturday but they pounded us in ‘18 and ‘19 multiple times
-
Yeah I get that. But just getting rid of Augie and having Skip be the guy and let him fill out the coaching staff his way. We always had pretty badass pitching staffs under him, even when we sucked in ‘12 and ‘13. Eh whatever. Hopefully Pierce figures it out or we go after Savage or O’Sullivan or something. It’d be kinda fun to pluck Tadlock from tech somehow
-
Yeah I have no doubt CDC can find the right guy. But holy shit. Skip should’ve been announced as a HCIW or whatever at the start of the ‘14 season.

I've mostly stuck around and watched when we sucked. Not sure I'm going to be able to hang this year.
I'm losing my ability to be a dedicated fan to all sports. I pretty much turn em on and do something else.
Yep. Been a brutal fucking 10 years. The ‘11, ‘14 and ‘18 College World Series runs were fun and all but that’s like the bare fucking minimum of what UT baseball expectations are over a 10 year period. I’ll stick around till the early part of conference play, but if we’re like 6th in the big 12 in a month from now then fuck this. Sigh. What a wonderful 10 years it’s been for us
-
So I’ve been a pretty big Pierce fan/defender since he’s been here. Has a good resume and all that shit. But how in gods name was Skip not the guy to replace Augie? Yeah our athletic department has been a fucking mess for 10 fucking years but how the fuck did we let one of the best pitching coaches in all of baseball leave to our main fucking rival?

Cobb was fine yesterday. 5 innings, 1 ER, 4 K, 1 BB. Why yank him this early in the season?
Yeah I’m probably way over thinking this. Plus what clubwhatever said. Less Diaz. No clue what to do with Quintanilla. Is the Fields experiment over yet?
-
So Hansen or Quintanilla tomorrow? I’d like to see Hansen get a shot at Sunday’s with Cobb working Tuesday’s. Or maybe just bring Cobb out of the bullpen and have Quintanilla start Tuesday’s?

True. But Zubia and Todd looking good so far along, same with DJ. Cam Williams has got a nice swing and is a beast a 3rd. Just cut down the errors and we should compete for the big 12

I don't think we have enough data yet to know that we've really improved from last year. Coming into the season, most of us were worried about hitting, the bullpen, and catcher/middle infield (so basically just hitting, pitching, and defense - no big deal). Bullpen looks shaky as shit, middle infield looks very athletic and promising, but the all around errors this weekend are worrisome after last year. Ellis and Ford have been pleasant surprises at the plate and Zubia has been pretty good.
Who knows though. I remember thinking last year after sweeping LSU, taking 2/3 from Tech, and splitting with Arkansas that we were Omaha bound again. And that was in late March. Lulz.
And in 2018, I thought we were gonna be a 3 seed at best after losing 2 out of 3 to LSU and getting pounded by Arkansas in March. So who the fuck knows

Agreed. Pescii might fall over when I say this, but that was not a bad 1-2 result.
Do NOT misunderstand, I'm not going aggy and claiming moral victory.
Taken as a whole, however, I saw that this team has the talent to keep up with good to elite teams in a condensed, arm burning series, all the other stupid, fixable bullshit they did this weekend notwithstanding.
I’m right about here. All 3 games were there for the taking, we just fucked up with stupid errors and freshman catchers shitting their pants.
Though, after last year, we could win the conference, host a regional and I’d still be skeptical about like half our lineup and pitching staff so whatever. Fix the errors, get DJ back behind the plate and see what we got the next 3 weeks. Zona, Fullerton, a series against New Mexico then off to conference playFor my and our sanities, let’s hope this squad has the mental toughness of the 2018 team. I don’t think any of us could survive another last year

It's just really hard to tell if this team is worth a fuck.

8-0 and we're not ranked? Have we just played crap teams so far?
2 weeks from now we should know what to expect. Sam Houston st, LSU, Arkansas, mizzou, Arizona then a weekend series against Fullerton is what we have coming up.
Now, show me a loss!

Which is why I found EZ$'s take pretty weak. What defined last year's team was being fundamentally unsound at Catcher and in the middle infield, along with a bullpen that hit batters and threw wild pitches. It was not the things he listed, which are true of every team for the past decade.
How did we give up the lead tonight? We gave up hits. Imagine that? Having a bullpen so great that the other team actually has to swing the bat to get runs? After last year that was refreshing.
So no, this team is not the same kind of team as last years. At least not yet. Let me know when we throw multiple wild pitches and walk the bases loaded, then I will be convinced EZ$ is correct. I question he actually suffered through last year with that take.
Yeah, I’d imagine last years shitty infield play and having a not so reliable catcher in McCann fucked with our pitchers confidence some last year.
Our starting pitching seems like it’ll be a strength. Now, less Fields and Diaz and more Duplantier, Hansen and Merryman, please.
@ClubWhatever pretty sure Whelan had TJ surgery and is redshirting this year. I’d love to have him back on the team next year. Guy seems like the ideal Tuesday starter

Easy to say now, but I would have left him in for the 9th today. He only threw 8 pitches in the 8th.
Yeah definitely. He was pumping em in there

Welp, let’s walk it off

Yeah I agree. But if we pulled him and brought in Diaz or something and he gives up a couple runs and we end up losing to fucking Boise. Yeah, after last year, that would put a dent in that confidence we seem to be playing with thus far. After last year, we really need to “learn how to win”
