Also "mom can say whatever she wants but..." is up there in terms of tone deaf statements of the year.

I swear it's like you have to fail an IQ test to get hired as a cop.

I personally know 3 guys who are in law enforcement.  As far hunting, fishing,  BBQ they are cool dudes, however none of the 3 ever held a steady job until they became the law. In times past; being a teacher or lawman was a respected profession.  I suppose for a few it still is.  Most folks I know wouldn't want either job.  I advised my kids not to go into either field.

  2. If you are not car "smart" take someone who is with you.  If you are wanting daily driver reliability then go with some type of LS swapped engine with matched late model trans.  Fuel injection is the way to go for reliability.  Carbs are good and they have their place.  Gearheads love to tinker and tune so it is a good choice for 'em.  Dash upgrades aren't too bad either with the LS styled engines.   However, if you are old school minded GM made an asston of good engines that can be modded to fit your style.  Basics to check, body lines-look down the length of the car for bulges or indentations.  Check the gap in the seams where body panels meet.  Rust, double check bottom of back glass, rocker panels, quarter panels.  Take a magnet and use a kleenex (so you don't accidently scratch someone's paint) place on any area you suspect bondo.   Magnet should stick if there is enough metal. Check ground under the car where it sits in the garage, should be no wet spots.  Run the car,  return to driveway and before you leave check under it again.  This time look at trans pan, rear diff, eng oil pan, area where eng and trans meet (rear main seal area), radiator.  Once the fluids get hot and thin out, it makes it easier for 'em to leak or seep. The more eyes you put on it the better the chance you have of getting something you'll be happy with.

I grew up near El Campo, and we did our grocery shopping there because it was the closest HEB.  My wife’s family still lives there.  Man when they started labeling stuff in Spanish, the locals had a fit.  Which I found humorous, because you’re living in El Campo.

If you ever ate any baked goods from HEB, most likely my grandma baked.  She worked there over 20 years as a baker.

  4. Just my observations so far.1-Why leave from BFE in the Pacific?  Why not have everyone meet and start repairs at Dutch? Shipping parts would certainly have been easier.  Plus you'd have a much better "eye" or "feel" for the ice melting back and be ready to roll out at the drop of a hat.  2-The so called sail repair IMO was done to create a little drama, however, it is a known variable that the winds will blow beyond gale force on this trip.  So was this done for TV drama or a sneaky move to stiffen the sails beforehand in anticipation of high wind?. 3-kids closed in for months at a time with a crew that needs to be able to rest.  Not good thinking.  I've done 4 trips across the GOM from Tampa to Freeport.  It's tough even with people you like.4-Getting into the galley chief's ass while at harbor; not a good idea unless you have a back up in mind.  Most likely, I'd tell him kiss my ass I'm outta here.  I'll give it a couple more episodes before I anchor down with it and stay or sail on to other adventures.

  5. thumbnail.jpg.2384d8aeffcfcd8a3ea4060a0e8cbe1d.jpg    This was done by a daubber which built it's nest over an air                                                                                                                                                                                                            relief vent hole.

  6. Just where in the hell did dirtdaubbers build their nests before man came along?  I've spent many a day in the woods and along the creek banks, yet I never remember seeing a daubber nest in or on a tree or other.   And just how good is their eyesight?  I mean you know they are flying along and see a hole the size of pencil to us and to them it must look like a freakin' bomb crater.

Y'all have better subscriptions than I do, but a few sites early this morning showing rain starting around 1:00p and continuing off/on through Friday afternoon.  I like it.

With humidity, heat indexes still gonna touch 100+ for the next week.  I got a lot riding on next Wednesday being the game-changer.  Then it appears we head into a hot/dry pattern for back half of September.  C'mon Autumn!

Agree w ya', looks like the 10 day calls for a cool/cold front late next week.  Highs in mid 80s and lows in mid 60s for Houston area.
