I mean we'll see what happens Saturday, but I really don't think ISU is a threat to anyone at this point.  Even if we're desperate mentally, I think they're just too physically spent for it to matter.

Man, your guys look like they ran as hard as you can right into a brick wall. Big XII play is so tough...

  2. Kansas is SOFT in the paint...McCormack and Lightfoot are not that good. Their strength comes from their perimeter guys also being able to rebound and run out. They score a lot because of those backcourt guys being able to pass, drive and shoot well. I'd give them all the shots int he paint they wanted if it means they don't make jumpers. Their bigs will turn it over a lot if you can bait them into pounding it down to them. I think the Horns win this one, rather easily, too. I see a 10+ point victory.

it boggles the mind that he struggled so regularly here and yet completely refused to run anything resembling Havoc- save a few rare occasions late in games, all of which were successful (think: the Gonzaga game). he even had the personnel to run it, both his first land last year here, but he wouldn't do it. he's back to running tempo, and he's back to winning. pretty fucking aggravating for UT fans.

It’s just amazing to think of how Smart was the darling of coaching before he leaves VCU and immediately forgets everything he built that reputation on when he gets to Austin. Then, after finally showing some modicum of success here, he immediately shits the bed against ACU and leaves before he gets fired, only to find a pretty decent landing spot and he immediately starts looking like the great young coach everyone said he was at VCU. So freaking frustrating.

  4. I mean, seriously, when you have one of the biggest home court advantages, this is what happens. Ask ACC fans who play at Duke. Same as playing UK at Rupp or Syracuse at the Carrier Dome when its packed.

I just think that complaining about refs is just a bad look. I mean we have heard forever how games called at DKR (or anywhere else for that matter) are all skewed towards Texas getting the big calls. Everyone has proof of missed calls and cry about them. To me, if it becomes egregious, I couldn't imagine being in a conference that would allow that to happen over and over. I'd leave in a heartbeat or make the commissioner know this is so blatant that it gets fixed or we, the college, does something about it. But that's the rub---we all like the money and prestige of getting a game against whatever blueblood it is that "gets all the calls". I've heard it so much over the years regarding the Horns that it just rubs me the wrong way.

so proud of KJ's contributions tonight. Austin's own!

KU may have found their answer to their inside softness with that kid…he’s way better than those two stiffs they have been playing. Tech’s inside size and skill just made Self go to KJ and he was the spark they needed.

  6. I think every fanbase complains about whistles going against them. KU is spoiled because of the advantage the Phog gives them, but Ames, Morgantown, Lubbock, and places like Stillwater and Manhattan when their teams are good, all provide great home courts, too. I suspect that complaining about refs' calls is the fan's coping mechanism for getting beat.  I know that Baylor fans complain about refs calls a lot on Baylorfans just as we do here on surly. Hell, Baylor fans complain about law enforcement getting involved in actual rapes and murders...

Tech and Kansas are tied at the top of the conference in points per possession margin in conference play, despite Tech shooting under 30% from 3 in conference play (I believe).

KU's lack of interior presence really hurt them in Lubbock. Despite missing McCullar and Shannon, we were able to basically get anything we wanted in the paint, and Kansas could not keep up despite Agbaji and Wilson having great games offensively. I'm sure Self has taken whatever measures he can to address this, though his options are a bit limited. I expect Lightfoot might see a bit more time in this one if he doesn't get in quick foul trouble again.

We are a bit of a mismatch for them in our halfcourt offense. Our frontcourt is stronger than their interior defense, and our backcourt is bigger and more athletic overall, so I expect KU will need to outscore us to win, which they are certainly capable of doing in AFH with Self calling the plays.

Really hard to win in AFH, hoping for some magic tonight. Also, less than a 2 day turnaround for both teams for this game so that might play a factor.

Hoping for a good game and no letdowns.

I like Tech in this one if the bigs for KU are rendered useless like they were in the Hub City. I think the reality is that Tech is just tougher. Now, playing at AFH is ridiculously hard because of the crowd affecting the game and the refs. But I think Tech is just better than them.

I grew up a Cowboys fan starting in the early 70's and making the playoff was never in question till the mid 80's. While they were good in the 70's and early 90's the question is one's mind was are they going to make the Super Bowl. They were innovative and had coaches that were respected till the shit show of Barry and then the long line of yes men for Jerry other than Parcels. No it is not overblown they are a shit show of mediocrity compared to what they had been prior to Jerry getting his feelings hurt. Poor ole Jerry had Jimmy and his staff giggle in the room when he walked in after the Super Bowl. For that Cowboy fans have paid since we have not been elite like we use to be and it is all due to Jerry's ego wanting to have yes men and wanting to play GM.

    Cowboys Are Crap Under Jerry.png

In the first 30 years of the NFL/NFC championship game, Dallas played in that game 16 times, winning 8 of them, leading to 5 Super Bowl titles.

Since 1996, nada. Only Detroit and Washington in the NFC haven’t played in the Championship game since Dallas last played. It’s the company we keep…and I doubt that changes this season.

Yes—he won’t get athletes from TX HS to be anything special and he’ll just be a gif yelling loudly at kids…

I'm actually trying to see how Texas can regain revalency and ... it's a dark picture ahead. You have to have good lineman to compete and Texas isn't producing nearly as many ... and the ones they are aren't coming to Texas because there hasn't been any tradition of advancing linemen in a long time.

You can get all the skill players you want (we still don't have a legit QB and only 1 legit WR so that's another issue) but if you can't block and then play defense to get pressure on a QB you're not winning against decent teams.

    This.

Texas HS let Mike Leach’s crazy-ass system become the norm now. So this state produces shit for linemen and linebackers. Now, with the right coaching, maybe you can build those kids into something…but in the Big 12, all these schools do is focus on outscoring each other.

There’s a reason a national champion hasn’t come from Texas/Oklahoma since 2005. By 2010, all that we were getting from TX HS football was 7-on-7 talent. That doesn’t match up real well with SEC speed and size…

Nebraska's not AAU either and they haven't kicked out the Huskers.  Don't think that's going to make much difference now, going forward.

True, but Nubs was AAU when they entered the B1G...they weren't gonna kick them out because of that, but its probably easy to offset Nubs with University of Chicago and their AAU and B1G agreement.

Still think KU will be in the B1G when its all said and done--the AAU thing is huge to the B1G since they get most of their money from research funding. They can get KU very easily and they add in a nice TV market, to boot. Maybe ISU can get in, too, but the rest look like they are gonna have to hope the Pac-12 somehow wants Tech/OSU/KSU/ and ISU or TCU. Baylor is completely effed, which is poetic, TCU probably is done, too. TBH, they rest of these schools not named KU are probably going to completely disappointed, too. KU  and ISU may also, but they have a lot more to offer the B1G, PAC or ACC than anyone else.
