  1. What's the rate for CAPed kids actually attending Texas?Β  I would guess that carrot is dangled to drive better qualified kids to earn degrees at UT system schools instead of to aggy, tech, etc. and not to actually get them on the main campus.Β Β
My oldest daughter (no pics) was CAPed and went to UTSA for her first year.Β  All three of her roommates were in the same boat and all four moved to UT the next year.Β  My youngest daughter (also no pics) was CAPed, but wanted to study biology to ultimately do physical therapy.Β  Since the CAP only guarantees the school of liberal arts at UT, it made sense for her to go elsewhere.Β  She's rocking it at Texas State, which has a great PT school.Β  The CAP is great if your student is fine with a liberal arts major or if you student is dead set on a degree from UT.Β Β
Correct.Β  It's my understanding that getting into Cockrell or McCombs via CAP is pretty tough.Β  Some advisors suggest accepting a major within liberal arts and then trying to transfer within UT down the road.Β  I'm not sure if that's any more likely.
Both my daughter and now Son in Law did CAP at UTSA their freshman year and both were at UT the following year. My daughter transfered to Austin as a Liberal Arts student, but was able to get into McCombs the following year and graduated from there.

I liked that they had to spend their freshman year busting their asses instead of getting straight in and doing what a lot of freshmen do - fuck off for a year. Ditto for not getting into McCombs immediately, she had to keep hustling.

It's kinda cute that they met their last month in San Antonio, so I would say the CAP program worked out very well for them.

  2. Gretsch stuff looks so cool, but I only hear that it's dogshit.

I would certainly take exception to that take. I love my Gretsch's so much that I have Gretsch pickups in some of my Gibsons.

That said, I think a lot of people's experience is with the budget Korean Gretsch's. Gretsch should do a better job of differentiating their Pro vs Budget models. It's literally like the difference in Squire vs Fender Custom Shop.

What's linked is Korean and likely Dogshit. Anything Electromatic, or starting w a 5 is Korean and I would not bang.
