  1. The guy mixing our record is incredible. He's making us sound way better than we deserve. So far we have rough mixes of 5 or the 15 we recorded. By rough mixes, these are for us to listen to before we go back and fix what needs fixed, then do a final mix. There's plenty that needs fixed, but I really like where this is heading. This is only my second time making a record and Im really appreciating what I learned making the last.Β

Here's 2 selections for you guys that I probably shouldnt be sharing outside the band and my close circle, but hell, Ive been here so long most of you feel like friends and some of you actually have became friends in real life over the years.

Sally needs no back story. Typical scene that plays out every night somewhere.

Bear Song though, that was written before my time in the band and is funny. One of the songs that made me decide to join when invited. The idea is that your out in the woods with your baby when all of the sudden there's a bear attack. You can either fight the bear until it eats you and then eats the baby or, as in this case, just hand over the baby and give yourself time to run away. At least there's a survivor in that scenario. What they call dark humor.Β

This is a good peak into what we got going on. Oh, and officially I quite the band due to "artistic differences". If thats not resolved my bass lines will be deleted and re-recorded by somebody else, but I've been told it it will be worked out and they are still acting like I never quit. Who knows. I doubt they'l ever get this out without me, amd they know that. We're called The Koffs for a reason.

  2. The first digit is the tone woods amd appointments and the next two digits are the body shap.

    Β

So 310, 410, and 810 would all be the same dreadnought shap with different wood and appointments. Generally the higher the number the more expensive the guitar. I think 310 is where you would want to start for a pro level instrument and 210 is very entry level.

I may be mistaken. I did the tour there years ago when I worked nearby.Β

  3. To me they've still never topped their debut album, but I'm in the minority. I'm just saying since 2000 they've produced some pretty good music for anybody willing to pull their head out of the 80's. The 80's obviously were their hey day, but don't sleep on some of the later stuff.

Book of Souls was another good one. I'm still coming to terms with Senjutsu. It has some good tracks, but a lot of it sounds like a movie soundtrack. Both those tours were incredible.

@thunderlounge should chime in here. He's the biggest Maiden fan i know. I caught up with him for a show in Chicago several years ago.

Which, in a sense, was correct: they were pretty much done writing and recording top notch music by that point. Seventh Son (and arguably, Somewhere in Time) was the last classic Maiden album and almost everything since then has been crap.Β

This is a common misnomer. The song Fear of the Dark has become the much anticipated highlight of the live show for the last couple decades, even if that album was the beginning of a dull period. They spent the 90's forgotten and trying to find their place and there are duds in there, but they came back in 2000 with a great album, Brave New World, which put them back on the map and they've produced several good albums since then.

Their live show in incredible. I was not excited for the last tour because they were focusing on songs that they hadn't played live before. I was thinking their's a reason for that, they are your worste song. Man was i wrong, that was onenof through best Maiden shows I've seen and I've seen my share. When you can do that with your worst material, that was impressive.Β

And ill never tire of watching and listening to Dave Murray play. He would get a lot more attention as a player if he wasn't in a band with 2 other nearly as capable guitarists.Β

  5. Its their 50th anniversary. They are starting their 50th anniversary "Run for Your Lives" tour in Europe in a couple months. I'm planning to catch the July 5 show in Madrid. I just saw them at the end of the Futures Past tour in Santiago in November. That was insane.

The European leg ends in early August and I was hoping they would be announcing North America as the next leg, but Bruce just announced a solo tour in Sept & Oct, so that looks doubtful.

At the end of the Santiago show he said they'd be back in 2 years w the Run for your Lives, so expect that to be a long running one.

Somebody once told me that Maiden is the Grateful Dead of Metal, and it's hard to argue.Β

Rock and Roll pinball machines don't work good here in the bar because of the jukebox. We currently have The Munsters and it's set to play super fast. Challenging machine.Β

  6. Thanks for the timely bump, ill be there late June / Early July.

We are planning I think 4 days in Madrid, 2 or 3 in Seville, then 4 or 5 working our way across the Gibralter straight to Tangier and taking the train down to Casablanca and Marrakech. I still need to figure out how much time I'll have.Β

    Β

Ive been to Spain twice before. Mostly in and around Barcelona. I did have one full day in Madrid once.Β

Wheres this? I saw you in a similar looking room in Santa Cruz around then. I had smoked a joint then had to drive over the winding Santa Cruz mountain in the rain to get there. That was a bad idea. You guys killed it though and the Matchless sounded great You had no idea where you were. You asked me if you were closer to SF or LA haha.Β
