Finally, I don't get all the Ben hate.  That actor is going to win every award a TV show supporting actor can win.

Yeah, I know people rave about the portrayal of the Joker, but to me the scene where he was in the cab talking to the driver was one of the most uncomfortable yet perfect scenes of someone just completely out of it.

100% on Ben although I think we need to separate the two- 1. Performance of the actor 2. The part and how it affected the plot of the season

    1. An absolutely amazing performance

    2. Annoying character that you could tell was going to screw shit up the moment he showed up on screen and that the writers allowed him to make mistake after mistake when other characters were killed 5 seconds after looking at someone the wrong way.

They have good managers hired to run their successful business day-to-day. Just gotta check in on the conference calls and fly back for the annual meeting.

Plus the free wifi for all their zoom meetings is a massive plus.

i'm picking up too much of a comedy vibe to compare it to true detective.  doesn't have the suspense or creepiness that show has.   was the restaurant really called ptomaine tommy's?

was disappointed he got steamrolled so badly by the movie exec.  seems like a seasoned detective would have had a better plan than that.  if he wants to be our hero and protagonist he's going to have to show more street smarts than that.

Yeah, he has good instincts just needs to work on his follow through. Either a character flaw or something that will evolve. Through two episodes he doesn't seem to have very good people skills.

Uh yeah. Fuck Steve Penny and fuck Bela and Martha Karolyi. I feel like I may never click on another surly McKayla Maroney thread after watching that.

    100%. On all accounts.

Also fuck Michigan State and their women's gymnastic coach as well. They didn't talk about it very much in the doc but the former coach at MSU also was told about abuse and did nothing.

It killed me to hear them say Nassar was the only nice adult they had contact with because he would sneak them candy and wasn't an asshole. Just awful.

I obviously place all the blame on the parents but holy hell talk about looking past a million red flags because you want your kid to be in the Olympics so bad.

I don't know that they aren't.  What I do know is plenty of them are displaying wanton disregard for social distancing and polite mask requests.  They simply aren't following it.  And I don't give a flying fuck what side of the aisle they park their ideology on.  Millions of stupid fucking Texans, exclusive of party affiliation, are not being considerate of their neighbors.  That's all there is to it.  A state that can't shut the fuck about how hospitable and responsible they are are killing their fellow Texans.  It's a goddamn fact of physics.

Enough Texans, of whatever political stripe, are being fucking dumb right now and infecting other Texans.  It's fucking physics and maths.  It's not hard.  But nope, not our state.  Too fucking difficult.  So here we go again, with more dead relatives.  Thanks guys, can't wait to hear about your gearing up for the upcoming race wars.  Call your dad and tell him what a fucking hero you've been.  Oh wait, he died because we're stupid.

This is the part that I don't understand. I fucking HATE wearing the mask and take it off as soon as I am outside, in my car, or not in a public area. I get it, it sucks but is a minor annoyance for a few minutes to run to the grocery store or wherever to try and limit the spread so I can enjoy normal life again quicker really that big of an ask for some people? I sure as hell would like to go to a football game, restaurant, bar, etc without having to wear a mask for the foreseeable future.

Based on my own personal experience, old white guys and fat White women are much angrier nowadays than they used to be.

This angry old white guy in the neighborhood literally ran full sprint at my car the other day telling me to SLOW DOWN! Now I admit I was going 5 mph over the speed limit on a busy road, but shit, if the dude had tripped he would have face planted into my right side door. The next day some other old white dude told me to slow down even though I was 2 mph under the speed limit.

Then a week or so ago was at the Y waiting  outside for my turn to swim laps when this pasty fat bitch with her kids absolutely refused to wear a mask or get her temperature taken or of her kids before entering. Caused a huge scene.

    Trump America.

The anger that has been brought on by social media in the last 10 years doesn't see sides just sheep. Lots and lots of sheep.

Being positive is lame, it's sooooo much cooler to be an asshole and yell and scream about shit. Even when you have no idea what you are talking about or finish a rant with "I saw it on FB, twitter, Fox, CNN, etc."

    Mindless sheep.

There's some good comedy in the first one between Tiff and the sassy blonde guy, can't remember his name.

How could you forget Dave, maybe the best line all time on Top Chef to Tiff-

    "I'm not your bitch, bitch!"

Speaking of my sons love the show Chopped, an episode this season Tiffany is a judge and Dave was a contestant. It was funny as hell and both talked about it being a long time ago, no hard feelings, they have both grown up, etc. then Tiffany trashed his dish and he was eliminated 1st. Dave of course wasn't very happy. It was fucking hilarious.

It wasn’t really a technicality. It was a team elimination challenge where her team lost solely because that asshole and eventual winner, Nick Elmi, made a terrible dish but he had immunity. The guest judge, Jacques Pepin, suggested he should resign but he refused and they had to send Stephanie home despite collaborating on the best dish of the night.

He was an asshole and Nina should have won. Fans were pissed.

    I just looked it up-

He was in the bottom four weeks in a row before winning the semifinal and final

Nina had 3 elimination wins and 7 top twos

Accepted an offer from a competitor and then resigned my present gig yesterday.  Thanks for playing and for the 2 week notice, go ahead and GTFO and take a 2 week vacay, we will be in contact.  Briefed my team and director on pending stuff.

Today's my first day without 2 cell phones in 10 years.  I'm having a physical release from the underlying low level pressure and it's exhilarating. 2 weeks to clear my head.

At 5 I get a text from my new boss at my new gig telling me he got a text from a mutual friend that my old boss )to whom I tendered my resignation yesterday) resigned today.

Can't wait to find out more.

That sounds like a great story coming............

  10. Happy for Melissa and Stephanie's dishes looked fucking awesome.

As soon as they made a point to show Kevin spooning the parma on top of everyone's dish I knew he was fucked.

Glad that Bryan made the finale but to be told by professional chefs your food has no soul might be the biggest insult a chef can give a fellow chef.

He clearly is mad talented but do think he doesn't always have a point of view and is just doing things to do things.

Question for the group about getting into sales later in life. My 20 year career started as a financial analyst and led to CFO roles.

I’m at a crossroad in my life and looking at all sorts of career options, including something sales related. I like to think my CFO experience gives gives me credibility selling to CFO’s. Over the years I’ve negotiated dozens of deals buying tons of software, health benefit packages, 401k plans, treasury/ banking deals, consulting engagements, real estate leases, etc, even other companies.

So I’ve got a chunk of “sales” experience, but on the other side of the table. Anybody have experience seeing someone like me entering “sales’ish” jobs and either failing miserably or crushing it?

Your experience is a very limited scope into sales, basically you have seen the "fun" part...I imagine you you would be in a senior role where all of the tool bag would be expected to arrive at the table. Your largest hurdle would be prospecting/pipeline management. If you fail, the previous sentence is where it will happen. A lot of sales/non-sales people can close business, it is everything that happens before and after the deal is closed where the magic happens.

I agree with Riloh. A lot depends on the situation you are walking into. What's the pipeline look like, is it limited by anything? If you can take your contact list of CFO's/upper level managers and just start selling widgets to them you should be fine but if you are going to have to work through all the gatekeepers to get to said CFO's than you are going to hate your life.

Sales isn't so much about the product it's about the relationships. If you can sell to your network you should be fine but if you are counting on your experience being a CFO to get you in a lot of doors where you have no contact, I don't think it's going to help all that much.

As far as failing or crushing it? That is a question nobody can really answer but yourself as you are the one that will be putting in the work. If you are good with people, willing to work, and  like getting slapped in the face then jump in the pool the water's warm (sometimes).
