Perhaps what Veerbone meant was that Kap stood up for his beliefs when confronted, despite the ramifications, and Gundy crawfished to avoid a player revolt and potentially losing his job, allowing him to revert back to only verbally espousing his beliefs when hanging out with his fishing/hunting buddies and rich alumni.  So, yeah, comparison is a little off in that way.

Lil of this & a lil of that.  The Doc & I are primarily on the same page despite what I believe are different political sides.  All good as we seem to agree on the most important piece..  opportunity & equality.

I’ve read a sample of this thread.  Not random - essentially the first several pages and the last few. The following thoughts keep coming up. Apologies if I’m beating a dead horse.

    1. I’m happy to see mostly civil discourse on a polarizing subject. By mostly civil I’m referring to a willingness to listen, admit a comment could have been misunderstood and eventually be willing to agree to disagree

    2. I’m sure somewhere in the pages I skipped someone has suggested the “Eyes of Texas” demand was brilliant negotiating strategy. I doubt it is the most material grievance but, as evidenced by the focus here, the one that can be leveraged into the most material change.  Kudos to the athletes for a really smart move.

    3.  Change needs to happen.  It won’t if we rationalize why the ones that impact us personally aren’t the changes that should occur.  That mindset resists any change.  Personal sacrifice and painful introspection are needed.  As I type this I’m listening to a couple people discuss how taking the confederate flag down at nascar races is wrong.  And that amplifies my position.

I too feel “The Eyes” was more strategy than a priority.  Perhaps I’m looking too deep but even the wording suggests “at least don’t require us to sing it without issue”.

I hope/feel this works out in a very mutually beneficial & satisfactory way for everyone.

    Question.

Where did all this "no room for debate" nonsense come from?

Did anybody actually read their shit? They made a request. Literally a request. Says it right there at the top of Page 2.

Not a demand. Not an order. A request.

So what happens next. They get time with CDC to discuss. Guess what, he's already tweeted that he looks forward to meaningful conversations and discussions.

Guess what that means. They'll toss these topics around. Perhaps even debate them, I would presume in a reasoned and respectful manner.

    Take a breath.

We aren’t @ logic stage yet, come back.. say page 23?

Lol.  It has tiered seating.  We were ‘in the pit’ and a gal tumbled from seating above onto me.  We both went crashing through a glass table.  At least she was fine.  Good times.

One of those stories that you hope is true, because I’m not sure I could handle the more frightening version.

Good to know. I’d guess MLB players have been following social distancing guidelines quite a bit more but that does indicate a lower number than I would have thought. I assume colleges will be doing antibody test when or before players report, so we’ll hopefully find out soon.

What’s your opinion on the reliability of the antibody tests? I’ve heard a lot of mixed stuff on their reliability.

Professional athletes have been following social distancing for decades by default, celebrity effect.

Outside of banging multi random sloots, they are the poster child for self quarantined.

Obviously we don’t. It looks like Utah has hired outside counsel to investigate him.

But either way, he is toast.

People say and do stupid shit during their lives. We all have. How accountable do we hold people for past sins? How far back do we look?

Nah, campus PD @ aggy until Elko departs.

I have zero interest in engaging the troll, but I do think it is a remarkably interesting turning point in the American experience that so many conservatives are expressing anger and disgust with abuses of police power over the last several days, whether he recognizes it or not. Lindsey Graham's comments about the work his Senate committee is about to undertake are apparently liberal folderol. Go figure.

Anyway, yeah, anyone deriding Eagles for taking a stand is kind of missing the whole point of declaring independence from England. Right or wrong on the issue at hand, Eagles is continuing one of this country's best traditions. Good for him. Hope it works out like he wants it to do.

    I thought NFL Europe folded?

Leaders of universities and college athletic departments are not concerned with the economy. That is not their job. They are concerned with the economics of operating their institutions and programs, but the overall economy means very little to them in this sense.

Open your mind to the possibility, if not prepare that you are horrifically on the wrong side of this.

I think you're disregarding some very important details here, the most obvious being that the scientific reason behind not having mass gatherings is to slow/control the spread of the virus.  Sure, we can hope everyone who comes to the game is under 60.  But that doesn't stop them from contracting it in a stadium full of people and then spreading it to the unassuming  restaurant patron 2-days later, or to their professor.

More directly football related--there are more than 15 Division 1 head coaches over the age of 60.  Big names.  Nick Saban. Mack Brown.  Les Miles.  Not to mention assistant coaches and gameday support staff.  It's not just a bunch of 18-22 yr olds running around out there.

Furthermore, and this is more prevalent in college football than any other sport, people travel from large distances every week to see their teams play.  Hell, I fly in from Mexico for home games.  Not to mention visiting fans from other states.

I've been on a call with, let's just say a high ranking member of a Top Tier FBS University's Chancellor's office, and there is a lot going on behind the scenes.  So many scenarios.  So many contingencies.  What if there's an outbreak within the K-State football team after week 3?  Do they quarantine for 2 weeks, and only play a 9-game schedule?  What if California doesn't allow gatherings of more than 30 people, so no California team can even practice?  Do big schools push to have the season start Oct 1 instead, in hopes of having more fans in the stands on gameday, and still having time to fit in a full schedule? All states aren't equal.  All conferences aren't equal.  It's currently a clusterfuck, with a lot of unanswered questions.

But as of today, yes, it's wishful thinking that we'll have a packed house come Sept 5.

I think you are disregarding the effects of the economy & the impact relative to the risk.

Tough situation & PC leveraged as no one wants to make that decision, but the options must be weighed out.  Right now the scales are heavily tilted in one direction.

Not wrong for you to think that, but unlees a vaccine drops in the next two months or so..wishful thinking at best.

I’d give those odds a little more respect.

It’s very likely by August 1st less than 15,000 healthy Americans under the age of 64 have died by C-19.   With all respect to every life, one either is in denial of our economic future or relativity in general if you think it’s “wishful thinking” for a packed house come September.

I dare you to step away from the keyboard and tell that to an ICU nurse working at a hospital overrun with COVID-19 patients. Maybe the hospital I work at.
