  1. You can likely make this argument for virtually anyone in the game of football. Environment, culture and scheme have everything to do with an individuals success and often failures.
  2. I used the goalline as an example because at some point Corum had 20 rushing TDs or thereabouts from the 5 yard line and in. Corum has 58 career rushing TDs. Hall had 50 career rush TDs. And UMs Oline puts ISUs to shame right? If so, that means Corums job is easier. But are you saying Corum is undoubtedly better at the goalline? I’ve never said Hall was significantly above Corum in shit. But based on available information, it’s within reason to say Hall is the better overall player. It’s also reasonable to say you can be comfortable with Hall in your backfield in any situation - short yardage, 3rd and long, 1st and 10, two-minute.
  3. Just remember a team ERA of 4.00 is good.
  4. We probably had more pressure than they did against us, but Penix made several guys miss. There are numbers that support this. Michigan had 23 pressures on 53 dropbacks. We had 20 on 39 dropbacks. Burke and Murphy missed. Penix was 10-13 (77%) beyond 10 yards. Pressure or not that’s a very high rate. Very late in the season QE had the highest completion % in the country on intermediate routes (10-19 yards). He was at 71%. For a full season, you’d be hard pressed to find many QBs that hit 60% beyond 10 yards. QE was 58%. Your Heisman winner was at 63% at that range because he was incredible at the deep ball. Caleb W 55%. Drake M 51%.
  5. Based on what? There’s been considerable discussion about the secondary coaches not being his selections and also dissatisfaction with those guys. Obviously, there’s an attempt to upgrade the secondary as they let two former starters walk. Those seem to be indicators a bit beyond his control. At least one metric of performance had our defense ranked higher than the offense ( DFEI-7th/OFEI-17th). We played 4 top 10 offenses, 1 top 10 defense. UW was 6th in offense, 26th in defense. Critique of the Sugar Bowl leans heavily towards the D but the offense is at least equally at fault. Not only do the stats say the UW offense is clearly more effective than their defense, but the NFL mocks/scouting reports are indicating that as well. 5 offensive guys in the top 75 or so and 1 defensive guy. A 6th offensive guy is anywhere from a 3rd to 6th round projection. And the flip side is that we have 3 top 45 or so pass catchers, the banged up top RB (didn’t even start our first game) against our two DTs. You’d be hard pressed to find any Texas opponent ever with a 3 deep WR corp, a QB, and pass protecting Tackles drafted as high as this group. These aren’t freshmen projecting greatness in the future. They’ve done it. Unfortunately Penix was on and it didn’t matter that our strength was Sweat/Murphy. There’s no reason for us to fall off. The offense should be able to bury some teams. They only did that to OSU this year. If the offensive line is to maul guys, next year is it.
  6. Damn bandwagoner waitlisters. Not only would you not take tickets at a discounted price in the down times you’re going to cost us true fans more in the good times.
  7. I’m anti Cowboys, but I thought this dude was special. Underrated.
  8. I aspire to be like HenryJames every day.
  9. It won’t answer your question but you got me curious. From PFF, they track big time throws and turnover worthy plays. Purdy 2018 - 20 to 11 2019 - 21 to 20 2020 - 13 to 17 2021 - 11 to 13 On a percentage basis his freshman year was easily the best year of big throw which was 2-3 times higher than his last two years. Also, 2018 his deep ball completion % was 54% and 41% in 2021. His junior year was his lowest at 33%. I’d assume any early mocks are before NFL people fully evaluate and start weighing in. There are quite a few QBs with hardware that had limited looks in the NFL so that doesn’t necessarily correlate.
  10. 1989 is the ultimate gut punch. And I largely just followed that team through the AAS.
  11. You’re arguing against points I didn’t make. Reading the posts prior to my initial point would lead one to believe Purdy was playing with junior high 7 on 7 scrubs. I even referenced skill guys in my initial post then referenced the ISU Oline may not have been good in the second post. Not good is not an endorsement and certainly not a comparison to UM. Forever and always UM is able to recruit and stack better talent than ISU. The advent of NIL and the portal make that gap wider. Got it. Haven’t disputed it. And having Harbaugh says a great deal too since he’s one of few to achieve at the NFL and college level. I have not argued depth at RB either. Hall is damn good. Run game, pass game, short yardage, big plays. He’s shown abilities in all that. That’s not to say that Corum isn’t better at the goalline or that Edwards can’t beat Hall to the end zone from 70 yards out, but individually they have not shown yet they can do all those things to the level of Hall. What I would argue that on any given play I’d feel equally, if not more comfortable, with Hall on the field than the UM guys. The 5 touches per game that allowed Hall to rest - I go with whatever UM runs out there. I’m not making any argument on behalf of JJ which seems to be what gets you fired up. And I’m not knocking Purdy in any respect either. I find joy in the last pick of the draft being a QB that may win the Super Bowl so the rest of the league can wonder how they missed. And not realizing it’s more about the organization from the top down than any one player.
  12. I was merely interjecting that ISU had some solid offensive weapons with Purdy. NFL caliber type dudes. UM can go multiple RBs deep. ISUs depth doesn’t matter when Hall is getting damn near all the run. Yes, there’s value in depth but play for play Breece Hall was the best of those teams. Kolar/Allen are comparable to UM TEs. Some decent WRs. ISU will never match the depth of a Michigan consistently, but ISU doesn’t use depth so I look to their every down contributors.
  13. I was thinking Kolar and Hall came out the same year and Hutchinson was still there. ISU was modestly above .500 his last year. Chase Allen was there too. Now, I think there a Oline may not have been good his final year. Early mocks are likely based on stats, team results. When it came time to evaluate, I’d assume teams weren’t wild about his arm. Probably question some decision making. There’s a ton of data available these days so the counting stats aren’t very useful. And it’s so much about the environment. QB is the most important player but also the position most reliant on everyone else. Teams get a Justin Fields hoping he can will them to victory, but it’s all about working within your system/environment to give the best chance at victory. That’s the reason I’m hopeful Caleb Williams falls on his face. Purdy is driving the bus but also throws in some excellence too, which is what you alluded to above.
  14. Purdy and ISU had some offensive skill talent. Breece Hall. Charlie Kolar has an ok NFL career thus far. Xavier Hutchinson is NFL worthy. Based on mock drafts, the UM talent is not overwhelming. I’m sure their Oline guys are better than ISUs but Breece may be the most talented teammate of Purdy or JJ.
  15. None of you nimrods are season ticket holders for other sports. But I can see the allure of 40 games all in 1 passes versus 6 games.
  16. Unpossible. Maybe over a summer. Or two.
  17. I’m beginning to think HenryJames lives under Disch Faulk Firld.
  18. Would you like me to start it up now or wait until the season starts?
  19. Yeah, that’s reasonable. I’m not advocating reaching just to get a position. If you’re convinced a guy is a superstar, you probably need to take him. In the Texans position, I’m not sure many of those exist though. That is somewhat the reason I threw out Murphy. If his strength and quickness translate equally, then you might have a unique player for the next decade as a potential 3 down player that you may be able to move around. That’d make him an option for just about anyone. It’s hard to separate how much that is Texas homerism versus legitimacy though.
  20. Fair enough. The depth chart looks to have reasonable youth. From an observation perspective, the pressure the Ravens created was noticeable and mostly took Stroud out of his game. With an elite Oline and a top flight QB, you should be able to compete in any game. If a Mike Evans or Coleman was added, I’m not sure that changes things significantly in a game similar to that one. Now maybe a healthy line does. Or an improved one. I’m skeptical of 1st round DBs. There are likely nice options for offensive skill guys to fit in later rounds or free agency. I’m an increasingly win upfront guy.
  21. My comment was largely an effort to trigger folks. I’m very pro-Jones and not exactly pro-TommyBoy. At the same time, I’ll certainly acknowledge who was here when Jones hit campus. Also, don’t have an issue acknowledging some good fortune and timing helping get guys here either. I figure we got some current Oline guys here because of that.
  22. I don’t religiously follow the Texans, but I think maybe the OC is staying because it’s ok to have patience. Continued success with Houston with result in future opportunities. Stay until you get the situation you want. Now off on random tangent. There’s considerable discussion about replacing QBs or simply how terrible they are with less discussion about how poor their Olines are. You can even take a look at “ disappointing” Trevor Lawrence. Well PFF says his Oline is bottom 6. Seattle, Carolina, Giants, Jets and Titans were worse. Washington is 24 but largely because Cosmi was the #4 Guard. Gates was the #16 C (so barely top half). Andrew Thomas Giants #18 T. Scherff of the Jags #20 Guard. Of all this teams referenced, that’s it for top 20 at the position. So maybe build upfront before determining the QB is the problem. All that to say, the Ravens pressured Stroud consistently enough to make things very uncomfortable. Chasing a WR is not the solution for that. Then compare to the Chiefs defensive success versus those same Ravens. Protect your passer. Harass your opponents. Skill guys of Singletary, Pearce, Schultz, Dell, Jordan, Metchie, Collins can be a winner. The Texans need to get their lines to next level. Murphy is at the top of the list for intriguing draftable players. If you think he’s Aaron Donald, you take him otherwise you build Oline.
  23. Great Tom Herman evaluation.
  24. He’d likely get my vote. On the positive side, his playoff defense kept the opponent in the 30s for the first time ina decade.
  25. I think technically Najee did start but believe Warren is the better ball carrier. They’re quality players and think hot hand is a reasonable strategy. Their arrivals on the team highlight the good and bad of the current Steelers. One a free agent. The other a 1st rounder when you don’t block particularly well and have holes on your defense. Warren was a far better deal than Najee.
