  1. Or maybe, “it’s not a rule at all about alcohol and I’m just making shit up”. Glad you were able to get a vaccine. Fuck the slapdick asshole employees refusing vaccine.
  2. It was the Moderna data Everyone got swabbed when they came back for their second shot. At that time, there were 14 asymptomatic infections in the vaccine group and 38 in the placebo group. That’s very encouraging, (an almost 3x reduction), especially since patients only had one dose at that check. I haven’t seen Pfizer data on this, but can confirm from personal experience that they did nasal swabs with both first and second vaccine injections. Hopefully that data will be just as good.
  3. I wonder if those same fearless morons got the flu vaccine, MMR, polio, HepB, HPV, or varicella vaccines? If they did, were they worried about dying from any of those?
  4. Fuck that Sooner Blake Bell and his damn palsy!
  5. As expected. Moderna data kicks just as much ass as Pfizer.
  6. Found out today officially that I got real Pfizer vaccine and not placebo. I’m off to the titter.
  7. THIS! I guess I didn’t realize how many cowards and dumbasses we have out there. My hospital system not requiring it. But everyone I know is getting it and wants it. Maybe because our hospital is up to it’s eyeballs with COVID.
  8. Our natural immune response is against all parts of the coronavirus (Nucleocapsid, Spike protein, etc). It’s just that what we are testing for primarily right now is antibodies against N. So we have a way to distinguish immunity through vaccination (should only have antibodies to Spike) vs immunity through infection (should have antibodies to N, Spike, etc) I’m not sure why people get infected twice, but that is very rare. Fortunately, coronaviruses are more stable than other viruses like flu, so hopefully we won’t see emergence of mutations affecting Spike protein that will allow it to evade immunity.
  9. Two more interesting vaccine things... It would be nice if we had a quick, readily available test for COVID neutralizing antibodies. Probably around 60M Americans have already been infected with COVID. So if you could identify those people, their vaccination could be deferred since it will be in somewhat short supply initially. Which transitions to the second thing...Almost all of our commercially available antibody tests are to the N (nucleocapsid) part of the coronavirus. But these vaccines are all built to elicit antibodies to the S (spike) part of the virus. So if I get vaccine, my antibody test will be negative for N (assuming I haven’t actually had COVID). So what Pfizer is doing is checking vaccinated folks for the presence N antibodies, which could only be elicited by actual COVID infection. So you’ll have your answer if vaccination prevents infection entirely (thus halting transmission) or if it only causes infections to be asymptomatic.
  10. Happy EUA Day for Pfizer vaccine! If we don’t see the FDA issue an EUA today, they should be lit on fire. Also, who were the four “no” votes on the committee? I’d like to kick them in the balls repeatedly. I got an email from my Pfizer trial location basically letting me know that I’d be unblinded once the EUA was issued and if I received placebo (unlikely), then they’d get me in ASAP for the real vaccine because I’m in healthcare.
  11. I think initial doses will go to larger hospital systems and will be available next week. I’m not at MDA, but I know they’re getting doses. I think next week hospital employees taking care of COVID patients will start getting vaccinated. Here’s a link to the Texas plan (not sure if already posted) https://www.dshs.texas.gov/news/updates.shtm#Vaccine And a link to week 1 vaccine allocation numbers https://www.dshs.texas.gov/news/updates/COVIDVaccineAllocation-Week1.pdf It’s not clear when exactly outpatient offices will begin getting doses, but I’d guess later in December or January at latest. I guess the Chief of CV med was uninformed.
  12. I think it becomes endemic. But let’s at least get shit under control before we talk about eradication. I think protective immunity will last at least a year. Antibody levels may decline to a point where you are susceptible and need a booster. But even if your antibodies wane and you get it, your disease will likely be mild or asymptomatic because your body already knows how to mount an immune response against it (thanks memory B cells and T cells!) so you’ll ramp up antibody production very quickly before it can cause as much trouble My hospital (2nd largest in large Texas city) says they will have vaccine Dec 14 and be off to the races.
  13. https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2032195?query=featured_home Some good news about vaccine durability today
  14. You probably won’t get to choose. But the first 2 that will be approved (Moderna and Pfizer) have little to any difference in terms of efficacy, type of vaccine (mRNA), or side effect profile
  15. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/mink-covid-denmark-cull-animals-rise-from-mass-grave-zombie-minks/ I think “Zombie Minks” gets me to a 2020 Bingo
  16. I found this board and thought “What a bunch of assholes. They’re just like me!” Happy Thanksgiving you assholes
  17. https://mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKBN28327Q?__twitter_impression=true Back off, England. Fucking something up which then results in falling ass backwards into success is more of an American thing.
  18. Even though I was told there would be no math, I think your numbers/timeframe are quite realistic, which is why I too am hopeful.
  19. I don’t think we know the exact answer to that yet, but recent data suggests “years” for most folks. I linked a nice twitter feed and recent article below that explain it a bit more. https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.11.18.20234369v1 https://mobile.twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/status/1328751557719040001
  20. With Moderna/Pfizer vaccines, I’d expect a reaction for 1-2 days of headache, fatigue, maybe fever/chills and some body aches after the 2nd dose especially. Take some Tylenol and ibuprofen and be happy that your immune system is doing its job and you’re helping to kick this things ass. Those flu-like reactions are pretty common after Shingrix and I don’t think that reaction or the Bell’s palsy can reliably predict how you’ll react to a COVID vaccine. I know about 10 people on the Pfizer trial. The 5 of us who got vaccine all had some side effects, usually after the 2nd dose but nothing too severe and that a little Tylenol couldn’t take care of
  21. Against until there’s some good/any data. I’ve got two kids under age 10 and they won’t be getting it anytime soon
