So, 72 in RPI?  That screams "post-season".

We have 2-3 potential Q1 series left that should boost us. And we don’t have any midweek games in May which eliminates opportunities for Pierce to shoot the team in the foot

Im curious to see how far that trend continues. The current favored metrics provide 0 incentive to play midweek games after mid-March or so

while bizarro is somewhat true, I think you are overestimating how they can turn it on when things are on the line.  This conference sucks ass which is why we are muddling our way through some of the series.

I'll take the series wins but they don't really tell us much due to the competition.

The conference sucking makes the non-conference underperformance even more damning. We pissed away every opportunity to build a good RPI base. Every 2-1 weekend performance vs a middling Big 12 team is immediately cancelled by the next q4 home loss.

  3. Bizarro season. 1-5 on conference Fridays. 5-1 in conference series’. Nightmare non-conference performance. They certainly know how to turn it on when things are on the line, but it’s hardly enough to dig out of holes they create for themselves

Nobody in the stadium knew it hit him. If they knew why didn’t they huddle on their own?

It was a good ejection in terms of raising the temperature inside the stadium.

A good ejection is a wonderful thing. Are there any other sports where you can lay into the officials and energize the building with 0 sporting penalty?

This is Pierce’s version of the Charlie Strong game against Kansas

This is about his 10th Charlie KU game of the season and we still have over month to go

He let Hamilton play every position in a 7 inning game...  Seriously what is the worst thing that could happen outside of him breaking his arm on the mound and being lost for the season...

I don’t think a season ever hinges on Jake McKenzie’s health and he had no future in pro ball. But agreed, there’s little to no risk and maybe some upside to find somebody will will compete on the mound

  7. Really don’t hate it if JT is willing. We obviously don’t have the starting pitching to make it more than 3 games in a regional at this point.

Whats the worst that happens? We lose another Q4 game, who cares at this point

How does somebody who cannot shoot the ball get ranked as a top 10 prospect?  Ridiculous.

Any time I see a high ranked recruit in the 6’5-6’9 range described as athletic/bouncy/high-motor I assume they’ll be gone in a year.

Mitchell, Liddell, Greg Brown, etc. AJ Johnson averaged under 3ppg on 37% in NZ this year

At least the 5* centers can be a defensive anchor even if they go pro before they become all that efficient offensively. And a wing that can’t score ruins spacing way more than a center

    Bye bye  Cougar High!!

F Brett Yormark for making us play those bitches in our final year.

I heard someone say we got shafting with scheduling vs them, but just looked it up. I think this is every sport we played them in excluding "meet" sports - golf, rowing, t&f, xc, s&d. What are the odds of this randomly occurring?

VB: at coog, 2 game sweep

    WBB: at coog, win

    W Tennis: at coog, win

    Soccer: at coog, win

    Softball:  at coog, series w

    Baseball: at coog, series w

    MBB: home/away L

    Football: at coog, w

Today’s game kind of reminded me of that game 3 against OU in 2022 at Globe Life. Went down like 7-2 in the 8th or 9th and seemed toast only to explode for like 9 runs.

Hilarious game. They forfeit a home series to sell tickets to orange shirts. LF takes a fly ball off the dome extending the inning in the 7th and we launch 2 bombs. Win it in the 9th

Pierce developed way better than Herman did, and he acquired better overall talent just not at the rate that he should as a coach at Texas. I’ll also say that players tended to play hard for both coaches. Especially for Herman, we are were always physical.

I think the assistants angle looking more on point as the days go by. Have the same staff for most of your tenure then switch it up when cracks start to show. They’re both pretty stubborn as well.

The biggest Pierce-Herman similarity is how 1-2 bad recruiting classes can have you on the street in a hurry. 2019 for Herman. 2020 and 2021 are now the classes that are plaguing Pierce.

Pierce neglecting HS pitchers is akin to Herman neglecting OL/DL recruiting.

Aside from being on our third head coach in that span, what might explain this pattern? Maybe with NIL we can get by from now on without developing any homegrown talent, but I hope we don't have to.

Beard being an alcoholic dickhead didn’t help. Nobody wanted to stick around getting no minutes while dealing with him. And he didn’t have patience for guys worth 0 minutes either. Now RT doesn’t command the respect for guys to want to stick around and get better

Probably true, but I would like the roster management to be more organized. The reality for Cam Scott today shouldn’t be all that different from when he signed. If he doesn’t fit now, he didn’t fit then. So why did we even pursue and sign him? Why did he sign?

The whole thing seems silly to me.

How many coaches in the country can manage a roster in an organized fashion? It’s a small group and most, if not all, would laugh CDC out of the building.

I know that losing talented high schoolers doesn’t help change this, but we haven’t had a true high school success story since Ramey in 2018.
