Alford was at OSU and then went turncoat. They were pissed that he left, especially to Michigan. I don’t know what the industry thinks of the guy, but he seems to churn out productive backs who then get drafted. Someone can wiki him and verify or debunk that. I’d take him right now over Drayton, the Rutgers person, or the bagman at LSU.
All I hear from LSU fans is that Frank Wilson is a great recruiter and a terrible coach.

Vintage Surly -- discussions about The Knack derailing a thread about the head football coach at Michigan performing career suicide by banging an administrative staffer and then having a psychotic episode in which he threatens to kill himself and others. You cannot make this shit up.
(BTW, "Your Number or Your Name" is the best song on the Knack's first album.)
Agree on best song. As for the band's look, that derived from Doug Fieger's resemblance to John Lennon. So they called their debut "Get the Knack" a la "Meet the Beatles" and dressed accordingly. And the Kinks comment is appropriate, as Ray Davies professed his admiration for The Knack's (and Abba's!) frequent use of Jerry Allison's (drummer for Buddy Holly and the Crickets) rolling drum beats and what Davies called "apparent loudness." And their cover of "Heartbeat" is one of the best covers ever of Buddy Holly. Also on "Get the Knack."

Part of my skepticism on the coaching changes front is that no one is hearing anything about anybody. Sarkisian keeps a tight lid and all, but nothing on anyone? Hmmm.
If Chad Scott were to leave, would we take a run at Frank Wilson if Kiffin doesn't keep him on staff?

Henry gets us up to around the #5 class. Anderson added gets us to #2...
Anderson already signed with LSU, per Gerry.

What the hell would motivate a kid to sign to North Carolina’s dumpster fire program?
They came in at the 11th hour with a much larger NIL package. Horns could have matched but opted not to.

Sark is our HC. I care what he can do. I could care less about Venables can do or Elko or Freeman right now. They don’t coach for Texas. And they didn’t fuck around all off season with a Top 5 NIL roster worth about $30 million. They didn’t decide to conduct weird ass proven not to work practices in the off season. None of them missed their Junior day. Most of them used the portal. Sark forgot he had to plug holes in our OLine. Conducted lane ass practices that don’t work and didn’t evaluate our talent. Didn’t even change shit up for Arch until the 4th quarter of the Miss St game. That’s all on him. He cannot beat day. He cannot beat Smart. And he lost to fucking Florida after a bye week. He wants to whine about it and say we should just play cream puffs from here on out and not bother to play OsU next year. Sounds like what a loser would say who cannot beat Ohio State.
if we cannot play and beat the best what’s the point.
rhis whole board sounds like fucking aggy right now. Sark just ain’t the guy.
So you've decided to become distaff BO&W. Awesome.

Gerry seemed skeptical about us pursuing Cam Collier, saying that he would likely cost about $4mm

Like they blew out Texas?
Bama is in. They didn't punish any of the CCG losers last season (and nor should they - ever) - even with an opportunity to put Bama in ahead of SMU.
The committee says a lot of shit that they go back on. That's a constant.

Also by Massey, Vanderbilt is 15th with the 21st power rating. They are just another good but not great team.
Like Notre Dame, in other words.

Really? Why?
He's probably a grad transfer and this way he gets a free ride for his graduate degree while playing football. Let's see where he ends up, but I'm betting on a strong academic school.

So everyone is convinced that he's moving to Baton Rouge?

100% this. The CFP can do whatever they want. If they want us in they can do it.
Buddy of mine that I grew up with and is a former college football journalist and AP voter. He remains extremely connected in retirement and steadfastly maintains we will be in the playoff because ESPN is footing the bill for all of this. Miami, the Big 12 runnerup and Vandy don't move the needle for them. I'm skeptical but we shall see.

One year in Sark's very complicated system. And McCutcheon isn't and wasn't some JAG, he was highly recruited. I suppose Livingstone was a JAG since he didn't play last year. So according to you, the new reality is if you aren't starting as a freshman then GTFO.

Three freshmen WRs don't see the field (Sark's circle of trust) and suddenly they're all JAGS?

I think it's a combination of some late NIL money entering the picture and our depth chart. Didn't Gerry mention something like this?

Wilcher needs to be what passes for our main PG. And I wish we could put him in an intensive, crash course on playing defense with Dogus.

I'm not sure which one of you compared Swain to Dameon James, but it's pretty apt.

I would assume that Kiffin will try to persuade Chambliss or Simmons to join him in Baton Rouge.
