Yeah, let's get real, sports is a grind for everyone that plays them at the college level.  It's a wonder more of them don't have mental health problems.

I'd bet they do but guys are probably pressured to push through and be quien es mas macho.

And, women don't really have some glorious and lucrative pro career to incentivize them, and are thus forced and also naturally inclined to stress about school in a way that most male athletes don't.

I did use the term "burnout," with its negative connotations, but I think all athletes deserve some sympathy/empathy on that.  So fuck me for that.

    Nice Laurie Anderson ref.

Then why did you assert this?

Enough with this bullshit yips mental shit. That shit is okay for isolated stretch in a game, not 3 game stretches especially vs bad competition.

It wouldn't shock me if he has some injury that isn't helping, but that guy is clearly in his own head.  See (for instance) Chuck Knoblach.

Or for us olds, Steve Blass.

Oh hell no.  I thought about applying for an adjunct, but realized that teaching finance to a bunch of math nerds after 25 years at TXST would be like teaching an entirely new subject.

I did apply to teach a PE class, but no dice.

An old friend that I have sadly lost touch with graduated from UT in some engineering/chem field and at his graduation party he received his notification that he got into the CSOM grad school.  VERY smart guy.  The party got even better after that.

Is there a single game on worth a shit right now besides Clemson/GT?

Meh.  S Alabama driving down 21-3 with 6 minutes left in the half.  Inside the Auburn 20.

Wisconsin is like bad bad. Bama should handle that one fairly comfortably.

I expect OU to put on a show at Temple and curb stomp them so that they can divert all the powerball budget to NIL when the gooners get super excited that this is their year.

I think Tennessee is fools gold again. If you remember last year, the beat all of their weak opponents by 50+, but got shut down against quality defenses. I think the same thing happens this year.

I have a sneaky suspicion that SCar is going to beat Vandy. I don't really know why, but that is what I am going with.

Agree with you on everything except I think the Commodores beat the Gamecocks.  Sellers needs way more help than is currently on hand.

  6. I think OU wins and likely covers, but I like Keeler putting Mateer on notice that they are going to make him "pay a price" anytime he runs.  Given what a bunch a mouthy loose cannons the Sooners have, this could have several entertaining extracurricular encounters.

Our homegrown WR room has been pretty average at best so far under Sark. Thankfully, we were gifted Xavier Worthy by Michigan, as well as Golden, AD Mitchell, and Bond through the transfer portal.

Yet, the best of the rest (excluding Parker) consists of two inconsistent WR’s in Deandre Moore
and Ryan Wingo, who probably just needs a new set of eyes to see the football.

We still don’t know what we have with the true freshman: Kaliq Lockett, Daylon McCutcheon, Jaime Ffrench and Michael Terry.

Aaron Butler is a JAG and Ryan Niblett is still trying to find himself in life (and a permanent position).

Not to mention the other WR recruits who are no longer with the program: Johntay Cook, Brenen Thompson, Savion Red and Freddie DuBose Jr.

Ohio State rolls out of bed and steps onto a 1st round pick at WR every year it seems like.

We have been spoiled through providence and the transfer portal with our recent influx of NFL talent. Maybe this latest homegrown WR class will turn things around. There is still much uncertainty right now with our current group.

    Get bent.

Their offense looks old fashioned. It’s a power running attack and they always have a great RB but the passing has been limited. Maybe it’s time for a refresh.

I don't think anyone here wants to see Katy relevant again.

I had family by marriage from New Mexico. This is very much on brand for the unique from any other state form of crazy that NM generates. I bet they "grew up hunting deer with knives" too. Yes, that's a direct quote said in absolute serious tone.

Hey now, after all, Davy Crockett kilt him a b'ar when he was only 3.

I can tell you guys that the Georgia fans are not fans at all of Texas. I was reading a thread earlier on their 247 site it is glorious how much they hate Texas. A bunch of them are admitting to their board, sheepishly, it appears, that they're going to be rooting for Ohio State and against a fellow SEC team for the first time in their lives. Others are simply wishing for a meteor to strike the Horseshoe at about 12:05pm (their time) tomorrow.

Imagine how those imbeciles are going to behave when Texas starts beating them.

I assume they just go back to being familiars for Bama.

We should probably start a thread, if one doesn't exist, of good podcasters. We shit on bad ones, which I support, but to be clued in to some I'm unaware of would be nice. Perhaps it already exists and I'm clueless?

Klatt, The Film Guy and College Football Nerds all have been discussed and posted here and those are my personal top 3. Would love to find more.

Always College Football with Greg McElroy is a good podcast.
