Cal is like the rich, intelligent big brother to Auburn. They are both wildly dysfunctional as institutions when it comes to sports and, specifically, football. Cal has Justin Wilcox as their HC. He consistently gets bowl-invite quality outcomes from his teams, especially on defense. Meanwhile, he's underpaid, he has little help for his staff, his facilities suck, their NIL sucked until lately, etc., etc. What does he get as a reward for keeping Cal competitive in spite of all of that? They bring in NFL numbnuts Ron Rivera to be his boss and meddle in shit. That dude is a fucking clown.
Wilcox shuffled his staff around after last season and hired Harsin as his new OC. A bunch of offensive guys that went through the spring bailed afterwards, so something happened there with Harsin. Ott was one of the guys who left. Given everything around Cal's general football dysfunction, maybe the OU offer looked like a deal.
Ott left because his RB coach got shitcanned and that guy was a father figure to him. He also coddled him. New RB coach came in, took no shit from Ott and punished him for sloppy play which he had gotten away with for years. Didn’t like it and left.
Ott has always had an ego that needed stroking and has had to be talked into staying off and on several times over the years. He’s also susceptible to people in his ear telling him how great he is. OU was tampering for a while and he was going to bail before spring but he got a raise. Then his coach got shoved and he did a lot of up downs and running and when OU came back, he listened to the Cal sux, OU rules shit he was fed and bailed. Got his degree so cool, good for him. Bad biz decision IMO.
Harsin is all business and brought in coaches who are similar. Some guys didn’t like it and bailed… whatevs, the pussies left… Endries not among that number, he left for a shot at a national title. But Cal’s offense will be significantly better this year.
Rivera is changing the football culture at Cal. CTJ is correct that historically, Cal is a clusterfuck for revenue sports. Rivera is raising big money quickly though and adding in staff and working on facilities they have lacked previously. Wilcox, an average at best HC, is now focused on defense and doesn’t have to deal with booster shit anymore. Harsin has the offense. Cal will be a lot better this season and have a ridiculously easy schedule. Easiest money of the year is this weekend in Corvallis. OSU -1.5? Cal will win by 3 tds+. They have huge advantages on both lines and will run over the Beavs and Murphy will get pummeled

In catching up on the sooner thoughts regarding the depth chart, Ott at the 3rd RB spot is really polarizing. Guys are saying he's getting paid $800k and has been bragging about that in the locker room, that he's had a bad attitude and hasn't put the work in at practice. Some guys are using the move to rationalize that this is finally going to be Barnes' big year. It's all just outstanding.
Venables indirectly shit talked Ott and several other guys on his call-in show, stating that "the best ability is availability" and they weren't just going to trot guys out for games who aren't able to push themselves in practices. This shit is great.
$800k-ish is the number I heard on the Cal side re: OU. Cal was going to overpay him at close to $1M because of the brand recognition and legacy stuff. They reinvested that money and brought in extra OL, ILB and Edge because they didnt pay Ott. Good fucking investment I say

Allegedly, Ott has incentives in his NIL deal that require him to play to get some of his $. He turned down a bigger guaranteed payday at Cal to get less total $ at OU and some of it is dependent on snaps. Lulz. He left cause his RB coach got shown the door and the new guy didn't coddle him and made him do up/downs when he missed blocks in Spring ball. OU filled his ears with BS and he bought in. So now he'll make less money, get killed behind OU's shit OL and the brutal schedule they play and probably lessen his chance at a good draft spot next season (if he gets drafted at all). So fucking dumb

not quite. JKS was all in on Cal and was a long time commit. Allegedly, Mendoza called him the day before signing day and talked a lot of shit about how he wasn't going to come in and take his job, he needs to know his place blah blah. There was a bit of a perfect storm around that alleged call and his subsequent disillusionment over the Cal "family" atmosphere he was drawn to plus a ton of pressure in Hawaii to commit to Oregon (continue the legacy of great Hawaiian QBs at Oregon) that he impulsively pulled the trigger on early signing day to go with Oregon. Both Cal and Oregon staffs were stunned and hadn't even thought it was a possibility (Oregon signed 2 other QBs that day because they didn't expect JKS at all).
Mendoza then promptly transfers leaving Cal with nothing in the QB room. This is why a significant portion of the Cal fanbase now hates Mendoza with the fire of a thousand suns. Everyone gets it that he might look around after getting pummeled all season cause the Oline sucked ass. But there is a lot of distaste over how his Dad was shopping him from mid season on, quitting on the team the week of the last game at SMU (he was "sick" yet laughing and joking on the sidelines while the team got railed), his immature and not factual bitching about how much NIL he was getting compared to the other QBs and then the infamous call to JKS that helped flip him away... Fernando Mendoza is a fucking little insecure bitch who thinks he is way better than he is.
Anywho, JKS gets to the Oregon campus in the dead of winter and lasted about 2 weeks before he was all "fuck THIS", called the Cal coaches and promptly transferred before the Spring semester started. And that, kids, is how Jaron Keawe Sagapolutele came to Cal.

I have to part company with you here. A total collapse of a season that they can blame on the Mateer scandal might mean we get to watch them in the dirt AND keep the current staff in place. Plus, what is bad for OU is by definition good.

So one of Nahlin and Ketchum is about to be tossed out on his ass as they’ll merge sites eventually. Either that, or, and this is quite disturbing, they join forces to become the biggest blowhard, fake insider recruiting board on the planet.
Nothing could possibly go wrong when those 2 streams cross

I read that Rashada has been enrolled in 8 combined high schools and colleges. He must be going for some kind of record.
Got a couple more in him I suspect

18/5/2 at Cal this last year on 42/32/82 splits. Up from 7/3.5/1 at Stanford his freshman year on 41/32/58 splits.
He's a nice player who has to learn how not to be a ball hog and shoot every time the ball hits his hands. When he is on, he can go for 37, when he's off he'll shoot 4-23 and grind out 15 points because he is a good free throw shooter who draws contact.
He was originally going to stay at Cal but the money that guys are getting this off season is redonk. Illinois lured him into the portal but he has a host of blue bloods negotiating with him now.

Ooof, Cal beating the shit out of Oregon State was the easiest money of the week. Maybe the year. If Cal’s WRs could catch and a bullshit PI wasn’t called on a pick 6, that game was headed towards 55-9. 34-15 flattered the Beavs big time
