  1. He still looks awkward at times on throws that are a bit off to 1B.
I was expecting a lot worse for some reason though. I can't remember where (maybe McComas when he was at OB) that said Ivan was apparently terrible at 1B when given reps last year in practice.

Pierce’s defenses have been excellent (I’ve blocked 2019 from my mind tyvm). Ivan honestly probably saved Faltine even more heartache on the last out against CC. Throw was well high but he pulled it in and kept the toe down on a close play. Love to see it.
  2. Honestly just don’t think Cobb developed. His numbers were bad in 2019 and 2020 and he couldn’t strike out anyone. Had a ~5.5 FIP with a negative K-BB%..not pretty. Better to develop guys with more years left and use arms with legit stuff out of the pen.

  3. Was hoping to see some of the other guys start today.

I feel like Pierce doesn’t rotate much unless he’s resting or actively finalizing a spot or two. Wouldn’t mind seeing more of Kash or O’Dowd but I also trust in Pierce. Taking mid-week games seriously and letting our starters gel/work through the needed reps has certainly worked in the past. The young guys will get theirs.
  4. Let’s get this shit started. See y’all there this weekend. Taking the sign of new arms breaking in as a good one - this is a really talented group so I love to hear the new guys are making waves.

Reading between the lines, sounds like tempering expectations on Kash? I had him mentally slotted as a 6/7 DH lefty with some pop. Hoping he plays, but may not be instant impact. Curious about the lineup. Last year showed that a lineup of solid guys can be damn good at scoring runs and better than 1/2 stars with deadweight around them. But we need to find a power bat outside Melendez, especially without the speed to manufacture like we did last year. Antico, Williams, and Zubia covered a lot of issues in developing power. Pierce needs to get it more consistently in the lineup. I know Kennedy is fast, finished strong, and Pierce loves his vets but I badly want Campbell to push him to OF bench/platoon. Would love to see Faltine, Hodo, or Ardoin pull a Hamilton and emerge as genuine leaders with the bat. Felt like each were just one piece away from putting it all together, so I’m itching to see what they do this year.

Team is stacked, schedule is great, and energy is high. Let’s kick some ass.

  5. I know Kennedy had a couple gem plays in left last year, but unless he’s far far better than any other option in CF he needs to be on the bench. Want to see the young guys who could be a major bat upside push their way in. DH Todd or Kash and put Campbell in LF/RF.

  6. Think Dylan Campbell takes over LF. Messinger/Stehly play it out for 3B. Melendez and Kash at 1B/DH depending on fielding.

Figure Eckhardt starts Tuesdays and Stewart starts in the Witt role. Nixon, Gordon, Duplantier, Johnson, Southard out of the bullpen. Sthele back from surgery could be an interesting wildcard.

  7. Agree with Lobo..he’s not Cam Williams but he slashed .325/.398/.460 and holds his own at a position of need. Think we’ve got a spot for that on the field. If we don’t, we’re storming through everyone this season.
