There are incredibly precise limitations on how AUF money is spent.  In the end it still comes from UTIMCO's portfolio via the PUF.  Overall, A&M's athletics dept. is largely independent from the Campus' AUF expenditures, but there's simply no way A&M-College Station or its separate account for Aggie Athletics Dept. has this kind of money ready to cut.  Again, contract attorneys above have detailed knowledge about how this actually gets paid out.  I presume in mid-November, there'd at least be some elementary consideration given by Jimbo to taking part of it now and part of it in 2024.  Even annuity-basis, the money still has to come out and be earmarked.  This is accounting shitshow and UTIMCO ultimately has to figure out where to draw it from.  They obviously keep hundreds of millions in cash equivalents but it's for rotational purposes as investments are liquidated/deployed...it's not for a fucking one-off check the week of Thanksgiving.  Obviously this won't cripple an endowment the size of UTIMCO but for the next few quarters, this is a serious fucking problem for A&M's AUF account.  No current student or staffer will feel anything, but down the road---somebody's gonna feel a squeeze and not just the Corps.

@PilotsError negged me though for bringing this up.  He must hold stock in A&M or something.  As much as I love to make fun of Aggies, the financial logistics behind this are not only an issue, but they set a fucked up precedent for stupid people playing with fire/firing.  You wanna do a private donor raise to buy out a shitty coach?  Fine.  I'd rather you donate it to academics, but it's your money-your call.  But this kinda cash has to come out of somewhere else, even if it's off-set by a decade of pledges by donors, in the here and now.  Plus, even if A&M tries to pretend that it'll all be paid back eventually by donors & sponsors & TV money, a few years from now when they are fatigued by their next hire...plenty of Aggies (at least the half-smart ones) will just re-neg on their capital calls and keep their money and say, "Meh, UTIMCO has more money than me...call them this time."  A&M purports to lead on and off the field, and as per usual, they're leading an awful lotta Texans into a seriously stupid financial cave.  What else should we expect from these morons?

No worries, this time tomorrow, they'll put some shiny bullshit spin on it that is meant to assure Aggie Nation & the State of Texas that no public funds will be used.  And that in fact, the people of Texas will actually be making money on this buyout.  And a large portion will believe them because expensive stupidity is practically free.

Governor should call a new special session just to piss off the lege and embarrass Aggy.

Paraphrasing , he said big cigars not involved in buyout, 100% admin driven. Big cigars are tapped out after all the expansion expenses. He expects the donors to pony up for baseball field so this one is on the school. Feels like the sucking of the football program is due to uncertainty /turnover at the AD and president level. Said losing Ad to lsu was a big loss for jumbo. Compared stoops , saban (at lsu) and Mack to the Bermuda Triangle that ultimately doomed RC, felt like they were getting passed up. Didn’t want that to happen again. More or less what he said. Also said a lot of nothing , he’s a dork.

wait. the payout is coming from the university budget and not donations?

Really curious if Jimbo’s ego will allow him to ride off into the sunset or if he does the Mack Brown “2 years at ESPN then step down coaching gig” thing.

    Can he speak intelligibly?

no... no he cannot. They'll give him a 60 second segment and he'll run through his words in 15 leaving 45 seconds of cringy silence while he stares at the camera with those dead eyes.

Pretty shocking, but also misleading... comparing annual expense to his buyout isn't quite the same. Plus, I think Aggy only owes Fisher 25% of his remaining buy-out within the first 60 days of firing with the rest to be paid out over the course of his contract. Which is pretty fucking good mailbox money...

Surly would have to bid on that. Could you imagine the lulz that would bring displayed at the aggy tailgate every year?

totally misread your post... lol, would be awesome.

My guess is that they're paying it now because it's not getting any better by waiting.  I think I read that in 3 years it will STILL be the highest buyout ever paid.  It's not like if they wait a year or two it's getting better.  They just fucked themselves on that contract.

I bet they are considering the match-up with Texas next year and should they lose with Jimbo in his 7th year, that would just look awful... but if they win/lose in a 'rebuilding' year with a new coach???

This is Aggy, you know we're part of their decision making...

I live near a stadium where I think a middle school game is happening.

Based on the crowd reactions I'm hearing I'd be more entertained watching that.

honestly, that's how I plan to "watch" the rest of this game... TV in the other room on, listening to crowd noise, popping in to watch a replay if it seems worth it.
