  1. I'm not saying this guy should have been made to resign or even lost all those clients. I"m not concerned with that. My only reason for bringing this up is wondering whether we have the right person representing the University of Texas. And since it seems every name on a building on campus is under scrutiny these days, his should be as well. Since originally posting and reading people's responses I've done some more research and talked further with people in the industry. A couple of interesting points have come up: The original story that broke in the trade publication Ad Age says the meeting was "to review an idea for an ad campaign that celebrated Black artists." Perhaps that is what upset people in the meeting? It doesn't appear to have been an advertisement just aimed at white people. Also, a couple of people have told me that the company has a decades-long reputation of being misogynistic. They said many in the industry will tell you this.
  2. Someone should tell Mr. Richards.
  3. I searched to see if this was a one-time flub for the advertising agency, but apparently they got into trouble a few years back for racially insensitive commercials for...wait for it...Summer's Eve. The agency owner defended the work at first. https://www.odwyerpr.com/blog/index.php?/archives/3175-summers-eve-misses-chance-spin-scandal.html I found them here:
  4. So black people don't stay at Motel 6?
  5. I assume the guy will write another big check to the school to keep his name on it. If that's the case, I wonder if the alumni can raise money and give it to the school to keep "The Eyes of Texas"?
  6. Well, I'm obviously not as knowledgeable about marketing and advertising as you are. But I do know that if you're not good at representing your own company properly in today's climate, you probably shouldn't be advising other companies (or students) on how to do it.
  7. I read that ChickfilA fired the company a few years ago.
  8. After the changes UT made this summer and with the current debate over "The Eyes of Texas," why has the university not announced it is removing this guy's name from the advertising school? Do corporations have higher standards than the university? Friends in the industry say this is the talk of the industry nationwide. How embarrassing: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/14/business/media/richards-group-motel-6.html Then, as this Texas Monthly article points out, he "doubled down" on his comment a few days later: https://www.texasmonthly.com/news/stan-richards-richards-group-racial-remarks/?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_campaign=Web+Social&utm_content=StanRichardsRacialRemarks At the very least, this guy is obviously really bad at PR. That alone should disqualify him from influencing others looking to enter the industry.
  9. Is this some kind of comedy bit I don't get?
  10. Did he slap her ass at the :19 mark?
  11. Well, the outline to your story is already written: https://www.anchoragepress.com/columnists/maria-athens-timeline-includes-kriners-diner-save-anchorage-facebook-group/article_eff2df62-0c3c-11eb-b3fe-f3cc079ccd93.html
  12. I prefer to vote whether Tom comes back.
  13. It's not unreasonable to wonder or ask if a person who has a problem singing the song "The Eyes of Texas" also has a problem singing the lines "The Eyes of Texas are upon you, All the livelong day" in the school fight song. Therefore, I was inquiring whether this has come up. JFC, you're insufferable.
  14. Serious question: Is "Texas Fight" a problem for some people because it borrows lyrics from "The Eyes of Texas"?
  15. Honestly, I think most people here are just venting their anger at the team sucking so hard. If they were winning, folks wouldn't care as much about what the team did postgame. They could snort coke off a hooker's ass to "Jump Around."
  16. I'd be willing to test the feasibility of it on his behalf.
  17. Walked out on a customer. Then a teammate. At least he's good at something.
  18. He did. But you would have to read three pages of footnotes to know it.
  19. I prefer a more positive spin: HIRE MEYER
  20. Thanks for clearing that up. I have often used the phrase "Family above all." But I know Nazis used to sing "Germany above all." So I shall quit using my hateful phrase.
  21. If you want to win, you do everything it takes to win. You don't compromise on who your coach is. Has Urban broken any laws that I'm unaware of? The NCAA is garbage, so I couldn't care less about their rules. I have clients who work at companies that forbid accepting gifts from vendors. So I send their gifts to their houses. Am I cheating? Well, I'm not breaking any laws, and I've never had a client return the gift. And I couldn't care less about their company policies because most are a bunch of pussified organizations. One has a Director of Empathy. Seriously. UT needs a Director of Get Your Shit Together Or GTFO. In other words, UT needs Urban.
