lol.  jesus christ.  the "southeast" is eleven fucking states.  the next highest bundled region is six.  southwest is four states.  and your own data source does not support you on it being the fastest growing region by gdp.

the 2020 decrease in gdp for the southeast was -3.2. of the 8 regions, this puts it at 5th out of 8 in terms of weathering the negative impact of the pandemic.  it is no more "resilient" than other regions and was diminished more than others.  in terms of growth in 2021, based on the data in your link, it was right at the average in q1, below average in q2, and just above average in q3. your data does not support your conclusions that it is the fastest growing region by gdp.

The BEA bundled the states into regions, not me. I recommend sending them a strongly worded letter, and remind them that your taxes pay their salaries.

The original comment was that the southeast is a poor region with a small population. It's not.
Bundle it however you want. The states comprising the SEC - including Texas and Oklahoma - are responsible for more than, what, 25% of GDP? And over 30% of the population?

Hey guys, you're wrong, California doesn't have a really high GDP. Check this analysis out where it shows that out of the two groups, States Not Named California have over 5 times the GDP that States Named California have.

California is nearly the entire western seaboard by itself! Large seaports contribute enormously to GDP.
But as I said, California is a dubious football market. They can barely hang onto their pro teams, and outside of USC and the Rose Bowl there is no major college football presence.
ESPN would love to get California eyes and dollars, but unless USC becomes a perennial power again, it's not going to happen.

What does pre-pandemic gdp look like?

    Like yesterday's news?

It's essentially the same, but even if it was markedly different, it would only serve to demonstrate that the economy of the southeast is resilient and vibrant in ways that the economies of states and regions diminished by the pandemic are not.

Everytime Dak drops back to pass I think of this. Work on the accuracy!

Carr was trying to salvage Dak's ego at the end, haha

Reminds me of the College Football Live with Luck, Foles, Barkley, and Locker having a similar competition when they were all in the Pac 12 together, and Luck smoked all of them.

Well, leaving out the homerism with wanting UT in every 3 years, you’re absolutely right. As others have pointed out, making CFB a regional sport, centered in a low population, low education, low income region, caps the sport financially. ESPN had better figure this out for its own financial stake.

    Your source data is wrong.

The Southeast is the #1 region in the US by GDP according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The Southeastern US accounts for over 20% of national GDP.
The Southeast is also the fastest growing region, both by GDP and by population.
The population of the states comprising "SEC country" is the largest among all conferences, followed closely by the ACC (which has more mid-Atlantic states), and both of those conferences are far ahead of the rest of the pack.

Then consider that 5 of the top 8 states producing NFL talent are also in the SEC (Texas, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana).

ESPN didn't make college football a regional sport. It kind of is a regional sport, with some amount of talent and interest in California and the Midwest, and I would argue that California is a dubious football market to begin with.

The two best teams played for the NC, it’s patently obvious.  Your issue is not that the wrong teams played for the NC. Your issue is that you don’t like which two teams were the best.

I feel like that's it. This year the top 2 teams were as clearly the top 2 teams as it ever gets, and we saw a team win its first NC in 40 years. It was a great game and a great result.

Asking for more mediocre opponents from mediocre conferences to be added into the mix just to make people feel better is....well I don't have a word to express the distaste but it feels like parents telling a coach to let their schlub of a kid play just because.

How was he doing vs OU before he hurt his thumb?

    1st half stats:

    10 of 16, 244 yards, 4 TD, -16 rushing.

That's a good half of football, helped out by some defensive lapses and 99 rushing yards by Bijan on 10 carries, but it's a flimsy peg to hang your hat on.

If rematches trigger people so much then maybe they should cancel the CG if two teams that already played each other advance to the finals.  That better?

The only authorized rematch was the 2007 Giants beating the undefeated Patriots in the Super Bowl after losing to them in the regular season and finishing 2nd place in their own division.

You realize the Heisman is given out to the “best player” for that particular season and not chosen between players in the current season plus a pool of guys that missed out during their careers, right?

No one is saying Bryce Young is better than Vince Young.  No one.

Last night he wasn't even better than Stetson Bennett.

Can blame receivers and injuries or say Georgia's defense was so much better, but when the pressure was high and the game was on the line and the team put the game in their hands, one QB stepped up and another didn't.

I think it also shows how much his receivers made him look good. Bennett never had the tools Young did.

[ignorant take] I have watched zero Bama football this year except the second half vs aggy and the 2nd-4th quarters tonight. All season I heard how awesome Bryce Young is, how the Texans or whoever should skip a QB in this draft and tank for Bryce next year, etc. He must have been bad ass against Mississippi State and Kentucky or something because in their two losses he did not look like #1 NFL pick. His top two WRs were hurt tonight? Well tough shit you have multiple future NFL OL, NFL RB, and other receivers from the 15 consecutive #1 recruiting classes at your disposal. I do have sympathy though because BoB is his OC and that is mentally handicapped.

Yeah, my opinion too. Maybe I'm dumb.
Young's got a knack for keeping calm, escaping pressure, and making accurate throws on the run, but he's not a Russell Wilson or even a Kyler Murray.
