  1. I was hoping for Sorber, and he goes to OKC. Of course! Carter Bryant couldn't even get minutes on his college team. Who the hell is going to play center on this team outside of Victor? I guess they're going to trade for someone, because there aren't a lot of good centers available in free agency.

  2. Anyone who thinks that a giant slice of the stockmarket isn't just memes and vibes isn't paying attention.  "Rational thinking" and "market value based on share price" of these enterprises are two concepts that never even get close to each other, much less touch.

Around Elons dubious takeover of Twitter and before its subsequent degradation, I sold all my Tesla stock. It probably cost me money in theory, but that’s when I learned he was insane.

  3. I was on campus the same time as Priest.  I saw him at the bus stop outside of Jester in early '95.  I remember him as not being very impressive from the standpoint of D1 running back.  I was standing next to him and thinking, "I am in better shape then this guy."  Not true from a cardio standpoint but from the physical stature standpoint, I felt pretty good about myself.  I think I even flexed once or twice while pretending to adjust my backpack.  Flash forward about a year or more later, after his injury and rehab... I run into him again outside of Jester at the same bus stop.  He was cut and I was basically starting to morph into a middle aged guy spending all of his time in books and computers.  I silently saluted him in my mind and began staring at my shoelaces.

Can you provide more details about his veiny forearms?

  4. The governor doesn’t care about Dan Patrick at all. He wants to be president.

I would bet folding money that his polling of GOP primary voters in Iowa and New Hampshire shows that whereas SB3 could hurt his chances, legalized THC for adults + abortion ban + vouchers is a good combination.
A losing fight for the 10 commandments is also a winner.

In the last GOP poll, wasn’t Abbott at 0.0?

  5. The AISD bonds that we keep funding are complete BS.  They collect X amount of dollars, of which 30% might go to AISD, while the rest is recaptured for school district golf courses and water parks in the valley, or Football Stadiums that house 5x the ISD population and outdo Rice and Houston's stadiums.

  6. This from Reddit.  A Texas family moves to Russia  because they were worried about LGBTQ indoctrination and immigrants. In Texas.!!! Husband enlists the army to "weld and repair" to to quicken citizenship process.
Mother Russia say you're good bro we're sending you to the front lines.

Here's their YouTube channel if you want to send them some well wishes.

Addition by subtraction. Definitely don’t have to worry about gays and immigrants in Russia

  7. I played against White in HS several times. He really was a very fast, tiny little guy.
He had a class with one of my girlfriends in college and tried the “I’m a football player” move on both her and friend of hers at one point or another that semester. Shoot your shot, but maybe find girls that aren’t taller than you in order to see the move land.
Regardless, he did too much on the field to merit me lumping him into that list.

Masterclass in humblebrag in this post

Surprised the epilogue wasnt about how, years later, he approached your company to sell something and used the UT alum move. How you’d grant him an audience but his offer wasn’t as good as Jim Bob Moffatt’s.

My Byron White story is not as impressive. He caught a pass earlier in the season. We had no idea who he was and joked his jersey number (1) represented the amount of receptions he’d get for the year. We didnt’t know his mom was sitting a few rows behind us.
  8. Last Crusade is a comedy with tremendous action. Its good fun.

Raiders is a real movie with depth in story and characters. It has two villains that are great. Karen Allen was great. Set up an alltime hero, but he’s got some anti hero in him.

The comparison is mostly pointless. It’s like comparing Shawshank Redemption to My Cousin Vinny. Both great movies. But I’d rather watch Marisa Tomei in a tight dress than Bogs in the shower.

  9. Dear Gods of the NBA, please no more t-shirt wearing finals crowds.
And no more O.K.C. chants, for the love of all that is NBA holy.

Otherwise, congrats Sonics on your upcoming second NBA championship(?).

As much as I loathe the chants, I’ll take it over random hip hop/pop music cranked up beyond what Steve Kerr finds acceptable. I spent decades getting used to organ music and now I they play excerpts of mumble rap.

  10. A perennially unhappy 37-year-old (who hasn’t won a playoff game since I was apparently eight or nine years old myself) is exactly what this team needs!
Let’s ship a valuable asset or two to rent him for a year, stunt Wemby’s growth, and end up exactly where we’d be without him… losing in the first round.

His Olympic performance was impressive. Coming off injury, Wemby is not ready for a deep playoff run. Gives Wemby more real estate. Less pressure.

Suns, Nets have some of the worst cultures in the NBA. Spurs have stronger leadership. I’m not too worried about Durant. He’s softer than he should be but he’s still cold blooded.

If you can keep Fox, Castle, Wemby, 2nd pick, and Keldon and then add Durant. Yes, please.

    Vassell and Sochon are spares.

  11. Pretty sure you’re the one who’s missing the point. The starting point is that nothing in LA is a “riot” same with all of the George Floyd protests. With every large gathering there will be some bad actors who either support the cause using violence or who don’t care about the cause and see an opportunity to cause trouble. Local police know how to handle this without tear gassing and rubber bulletins the entire crowd (in theory at least). His other point was that anything the left protests get defined by the few while the right gets away with whatever the fuck because we are officially a shithole country. The very fact that we’re still having this conversation is obnoxious because even non troll regular contributors around here seem to be falling for the right’s tactics of defining the group by the acts of a few and more egregiously outright lies with photos of other events and bs stories from lying liars.  At minimum there should be agreement that nothing justifies national guard and fucking marines but here we are still debating what should be an open and shut question. No US military action against people on US soil. Period.

A protest adjacent to property destruction and fires is a riot. Especially at night, it doesnt matter sides or who started it; its no longer a peaceful protest.

I remember an NBA ad that was celebrating BLM, and it showed a masked rioter on top of a burnt out vehicle. Once you get that point, you can’t say the police shouldnt take action.

There are rules for protesters and the article I shared showed what they were
  12. It's not that there isn't merit in this, but it's so exhausting that one side has to be damned near "perfect" and the other side gets to be as toxic as possible without repercussion. What are the odds that the protests can all be done with the perfect tone and complete solidarity and absence of violence/destruction from anyone? And regardless of whether it's even near "perfect", it'll be like in an abusive relationship --- "LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO!"

Think it misses the point. Protests against authoritarian powers need to be non-violent using coordination and organization. The goal is not to strenuously object and vent frustration. The goal is to direct action. Unmask hypocrites. Reveal their true nature to as many people as possible. Make their lives uncomfortable.

Once there is violence and destruction, the protest is over. It’s a riot. Then the public wants to hold someone responsible. It gives the authoritarians power and control to do what they must. You see women and children and men dressed in suits get hospitalized, arrested, etc, that makes a bigger difference than anarchists getting bloodied.

  13. Watched him play in high school. Friendly with his family. His success surprises me not one bit. The kid has been a basketball junkie his entire life. &nbsp

We raised a glass, prior to one of our Pitt football games last season, to his new contract.

Got any pics of his sister? Asking for a friend.
