  1. When I see people I've known all my life just nod along to this stuff, and put out their Trump flags, I can honestly say it makes me question my sanity.

    Question theirs.

I don’t think Putin could survive politically if one day he just stopped and asked for a ceasefire with the lines being where they are.

But if he did because Russia was truly tapped out, I think Ukraine puts a lot of effort into taking the Kerch bridge out once and for all.  When that happens. Russia will not have a decent means of resupply and reinforcement - remember Ukraine has been slowly taking out the ships that could be used for such resupply/reinforcement efforts.

The other thing to note - Ukraine. Is ramping up attacks in Russia proper, and are getting past front-line air defenses, and this latest attack on an air base has got to make the Russians consider pulling back air defenses, and if they do, that makes thing easier on the F-16s.

It’s frustrating that we are not helping them as much, but they are clearly laying the groundwork for some serious long-term moves, and I wonder if that’s what is driving the latest round of Russian attempts at advancing.

Remember the statement than Ukrainian intelligence said the Kerch bridge would be destroyed in 2024 a page or two back.  I imagine it will be.

The Crimean bridge is scheduled to be destroyed in the first half of 2024. Its destruction is inevitable - The Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine official in an interview with The Guardian He added that the head of the department, Budanov, already has "most of the resources to complete this task."

  4. Going back 3 years I remember the motivations as:
    • Population decline made it now or never
    • Need to move back as close as possible to the Fulda Gap lines
    • Ukraine's undeveloped Oil and Gas reserves on land an in the Black Sea.
    • Warm water ports in the Black Sea
Only the population objective has taken a hit due to the war.  If Russia is successful the other three are still wins.

They aren’t any closer to securing the Black Sea goals you reference.

  5. Is it though? The land they’re taking at this point is worse than undeveloped. All infrastructure is destroyed and left in ruin. There’s unexploded ordnance, mines and chemicals in all the fields and forests… the next (or first?) great leader of Russia will be the person that focuses on internal development: educating the population, raising standard of living (you know, luxuries like flushing toilets outside of Moscow and St Pete), and increasing GDP. Make it a first world nation. How does someone as intelligent as Putin look at his country and decide what will make people remember him is increasing the land area by a couple percent? The 500k men that have been killed or disabled in this war could have been improving infrastructure in that shit hole of a country.

What does a street gangster aspire to? What is greatness to such a man? Displays of raw power.

The kind of man you describe cannot rise in modern Russia. That’s why all their smart people left.

11 year old is right handed, and on his way.  He has a Yamaha acoustic guitar, a Yamaha classical guitar (gift - "hey, I never played this - want it" from a neighbor), a Dobro ("hey, I never played this - want it" from grandfather), a PRS silver sky SE, and now he wants a telecaster.

It would have made a lot of sense for me to learn right handed so that he could benefit from whatever I collected.  Alas, it just didn't feel right to me.

Instead, I bought a lefty so that we could spend time together and have something in common. I now have no excuses except my own ineptitude.

And, if we ever get hooked on heroin we can probably sell that Dobro for a few fixes - not sure anyone else will do much with it, but it looks cool.

Meh, these guys made it work.  You'll need to pick up a bass though.

  7. I was just trying to make Tigol feel better.  I don't want any Chinese commie guitar.  Surely those things are soulless.
I bought a Taylor 210ce because I studied guitars and decided I wanted a Taylor or a Martin.  I spent some time in guitar shops and they don't stock a wide selection for left-handers (read nada in stock).  So, I started bidding on an American Dream on Reverb that I thought looked cool, and I couldn't get the seller to budge.  Fucker. I then scrapped that plan out of spite.
My 11 year old grew impatient and suggested I "just buy a guitar" so, this is where I landed.  I was drawn to a Martin d15 streetmaster but I thought that having an intentionally distressed and worn looking, expensive, guitar... with zero guitar skills, was a bad look.
    et voila.

So is this for your or for your kid?

Either way, if you’re starting from scratch, I’d consider learning right handed. You have now experienced first hand the limitations of trying to try left handed gear. Besides a huge part of your fine muscle coordination that you need is in the hand that does the chording/ note fretting already.

    Sincerely,
Lefty who learned to play right handed.

  8. Wtf? The Yeoman Warder’s tour of the Tower is legit one of the coolest things to do in London.  The best is to arrive in time for the first tour of the day to beat lines and have a warden who is just starting the day.

We did just that for Spring Break this year and it was the best. Chad Jr loved it.

  9. Yeah, took my girlfriend to London last summer. Walked up to the Tower entrance queue and asked if she wanted to take the tour.
    "Of that thing? Why?"

    She sounds gorgeous. Pics?
even Queen Camilla is said to be frustrated by Charles’ declining health and weakened status.
“Behind the scenes, Camilla is disgusted by the king’s apparent weakness and is providing him little comfort as he battles his fatal cancer,” a palace courtier told In Touch in early March.”
Wtf is this shit?  Send her ass to the Tower of London for the rest of her days.

Seems like the kind of thing someone who has an axe to grind against Camilla might write.

I'm offering good money that it's beer.  And let's be honest, smoke, beer, and other things emanating from touring musicians which get absorbed into speaker cones are one of the reasons old speakers sound monumentally better than a broken-in new speaker, particularly the smoke.  Because smoke is the common denominator additive in about 95% of the speakers that survived the 20th Century.

...otherwise known as the "I don't need to clean my grill" theory of speaker cones.

  11. 6 turnin' and 4 burnin'. That's City of Ft. Worth. She used to sit at the entrance to Greater Southwest International. Vandals and scavengers raped the shit out of her after it closed. They did an amazing restoration job getting it airworthy and flew it to AZ.

Minor quibble, they trucked it to Pima. It went from GSW to Carswell where they had retirees working on it from time to time. They tried to get the support of the city to keep it in FW, but couldn’t get any traction. Pima stepped in for the win.

Pretty certain the last B-36 flight was when that plane flew into GSW.
  12. My restaurant eavesdropping just a few days ago revealed a man who thought it would be great for Trump to pick Tim Scott as his VP in order to lock up the black vote. Because it's that easy.

I think there’s a better than even chance this happens because tfg thinks the same way.
