  1. Lots of smoke around Fluminese's DM Andre. Sounds like it'll take £40M to get him in immediately or £25M for a January move but could also depend on their Copa Libertadores result, which is tied 1-1 going into the second leg Tuesday. C'mon Argentinos Juniors!

As someone who's followed him since yesterday morning, he seems like a great buy but only if we get in another 6. Hard to see us dropping our interest in Lavia but Southampton seem intent on playing hardball. Either way, we're gonna be playing our first few fixtures without a true ball winner and that is a bit concerning.

  2. Fabinho was good the last 10 games, once we started playing Trent in the hybrid role. I guess £40M for him is decent business but that's a helluva lot of turnover, especially considering how long Klopp tends to bed new players in. Finding a replacement to just slot into our #6 role is not going to be a piece of cake.

Caicedo would go a long way toward easing my fears, especially since he and Mac Allister have played together. Still want to see us sign Lavia but I'm skeptical he can be a starter from day 1.

  3. We have a good relationship w/ Leipzig and Szoboszlai is the absolute perfect signing for our current squad. Can play at basically any position in our front five, with some real Stevie G vibes, and that release clause is far from outrageous in this market. I'm actually bullish on this one happening.

A #8 with end product is a must-have this summer, so I hope we get either him or Veiga, then Thuram/Kone/Lavia as our #6, a CB, and it'll be a fantastic transfer window.

  4. Here's a nice comp of some Gakpo goals, mostly because it lacks the shit ass music you normally get with these:

He looks incredibly two-footed and seems like his primary position is on the left of a front three. Perfect fill-in while Luchito is out and could definitely provide competition when he's back. He's fast as hell and has great feet for a dude who's so big.

What a nice surprise after a fun win today.

He has 14 big chances missed for Liverpool in all competitions and he’s only started 11 matches. Just because he scores goals amidst large periods of wastefulness does not relieve him of the title of bad finisher. He’s young, and I’m optimistic he improves. But he’s the opposite of clinical right now and his price tag + the current status of the club and its personnel means we can’t afford him doing what he did today and expect to win.

In the PL, Darwin has 8 big chances missed. Salah has 10. Darwin has 5 goals, Mo has 6. For context, Gabriel Jesus has 11 big chances missed and 5 goals. Have yet to hear a pundit do anything except sing his praises about how he's the most important signing for Arsenal in a decade.

Getting into positions where you get big chances is more than half the battle. His finishing will get sharper. I'd be far more worried if he wasn't getting any chances at all.

Never seen a worse finisher than Nunez in my entire life. If this is how he looks throughout his tenure, this will have been a disaster.

He has a goal every 122' in the PL, a goal every 94' in the Champions League.

Tell me you've never seen Ryan Babel play without telling me you've never seen Ryan Babel play.

  7. Argentina look the better side going into the match but hard to bet against any team that has Kylian Mbappe. Truly a matchup for the ages but I will go with Argentina. Messi finally has a national team squad that look up to the task of helping him win the World Cup.

    3-2 AET, Enzo Fernandez winner.

True, our Yanks have been anemic in the offensive half, but I will blame that on customary poor finishing and--also customary--poor coaching/strategy. (Each match was a tale of two halves.)

For some reason, I like this pairing with the Dutch and sense that our boys are going to rise up, buck their habit of choking in front of goal, and overcome Gergg's inscrutable tactics and roster decisions.

It's not that our finishing has been poor, it's that we create very few chances.

Our combined xG for the three games in group play was 2.6 and we scored two goals. If we were creating chances and simply not finishing them, I'd be much less concerned about our attack. But we don't create for shit and that is seriously worrying, especially against a really good Dutch back line.

Problem for us is that our bench sucks.

And whoever you sub on late in the game has to take the penalty kicks.

So our legit talent, if they want to be part of the penalty shootout, will have to play the full 90 minutes AND the 30 minutes of extra time.

Our depth is definitely a concern, with injuries piling up and the fact that we consistently look gassed after 70 minutes. Musa in particular was leggy as hell at the end of the match and it's hard for me to see him going 120 minutes. McKennie too, which is understandable since he's still on his way back from an injury, but those are guys who you want to take spot kicks.

I have no idea if Pulisic will be be able to play at all, but if he can only go 30-50 minutes, you probably have to start without him and bring him on with 20 to go. You'd certainly want him to take a penalty and I really doubt he will be able to play 90 + extra time.

It might be cliche but club career says CP10 is #1. He doesn't have the WC resume yet, but give him time.

It's kind of crazy, but going through the exercise in my head, a lot of the top 10 is on the roster today.

Trajectory of soccer in the US is on such a steep climb at the moment.

Pulisic's club career is not better than Dempsey's imo. 20 goals for Chelsea v 50 goals for Dempsey at Fulham, including the most famous goal in club history.

Pulisic also seems to be injured all the time – 87 appearances in 3.5 seasons is really poor.

He will almost certainly surpass Dempsey as the American with the greatest club career but he's not there yet.
