  1. Any other No Dunks (formerly The Starters, Basketball Jones) fans out there? I've only been listening for a few years but it's my favorite general NBA podcast. One of the guys recently left the show, which is kind of a bummer, but overall the show is great and they put out an episode per day, available ad-free on The Athletic.

Anyway, happy opening night to all who celebrate. Looks like another fun as hell NBA season.

  2. Helluva showing and a nice reset to the season.

Jomez was incredible. Virgil was back to his best. Alisson to Mo is such an incredible weapon. Klopp red card was awesome to see him so fired up and protecting his player after a bullshit no-call.

But...Darwin. WTF dude? Could've played two assists but goes for glory himself on low-percentage shots. Jfc if that had cost us the three points.

Really hope Jota is okay but that looked bad. Really hope it's not his Achilles but we'll be without him for at least a few weeks. He put in a Dirk Kuyt shift.

On Tuesday night Jürgen Klopp sounded less than impressed. “He doesn’t wait long,” Liverpool’s manager said. “When he finds a date for that he can call me. In American sports these players have four-month breaks. Does he want to bring the Harlem Globetrotters as well?

“Maybe he can explain that. I’m not sure people want to see that – United players, Liverpool players, City players, Everton players all together. It is not the national team. Did he really say it?”

    lol owned

Setting aside the blatant money-grab, the logistical nightmare, and the fact that exactly zero players will want to play in a dumbass all-star game, how fucking dumb would it be to have a North v South game when you could have a UK v World? That might actually be kinda fun.

  4. I have fond memories of the Father's Office burger but it's been 10 years since I lived in L.A. so that may be off. But I was excited at the idea of being within walking distance of a place that apparently has Hop Butcher IPA's on tap.

Humble Potato sounds like exactly my type of spot. Thanks for the recommendation.

Definitely very excited to be moving back to L.A. and living in/exploring a completely different part of town. Gonna be a lot different this time around with a family in-tow.

You won't be too far from a pretty good burger (plus pie!) at the Apple Pan on Pico.  It's a diner style place with an outdoor seating area as well as a counter inside, so you can take the kids and pooches there.  Be warned -- the line can get long.

I thought about Father's Office when I was posting above about Santa Monica, but I'm pretty sure it's 21-and over there because it's a bar, and the OP is going to have his two kids in tow.  That said, great beer selection and a really good burger.  Just don't try to substitute anything on the burger.

Good call.  Because we're going to need at least one date night during which we just order room service for the kids and leave them behind with their babysitter iPads.

Do they really enforce the 21-and-over thing if the kids are with their parents?

Just looked this up because we're moving to L.A. and we'll be about a block from the Culver City Father's Office location. I'm really annoyed to find out that no one under 21 is allowed, nor are dogs. Boo.

if we play any 4-2-3-1 there will be plenty of minutes for Jota. He is underrated by so much of our fan base.

34 goals and 9 assists in 85 matches played for Liverpool. He hit a dry spell at the end of a long season, but for stretches he was basically scoring every game. Assuming the injury doesn't linger, he'll be a huge part of our squad this season.

    Liverpool line-up after 10 changes
Here's how Liverpool now line up after those changes on the half hour mark.

Alisson; Frauendorf, Matip, Williams, Tsimikas; Milner, Bajcetic, Clarkson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Clark, Jones.

I'm assuming that's Rhys Williams? Clarkson is a midfielder who got a start in the meaningless Champions League match against Mitjyland a couple seasons ago. Bobby Clark is a hot shit 17-year old forward who we poached from Newcastle about six months ago. The Magpies were apopleptic about it.

  9. With Minamino off to Monaco we look an attacker light. I can't imagine the plan is to play 17-year old Kaide Gordon in those minutes.

A switch to a 4-2-3-1 seems almost inevitable. With Nunez, Jota, and Firmino, have three guys who can play the #9 in that formation, and Harvey and Carvalho are much more natural fits for the three attacking midfielder roles rather than as wide forwards. Jota and Nunez can also play in those wide attacking positions, providing depth for Mo and Diaz. Then we have Fabinho, Hendo, Keita, Thiago, and Milner (welp) for the double-pivot, and potentially Ox if he stays.

The biggest question mark imo for that formation is who plays the #10. Harvey is the most natural fit but it would be putting an awful a lot of responsibility on him. Thiago would be interesting there, and it would mean less wear and tear on an older, injury-prone player but you'd be moving the best deep-lying playmaker in the world out of position and playing him in a role he's never really played before.

Gonna be really interesting to see what Klopp does with our formation.

I think we’ll use Nunez in the middle because he’s a huge, fast natural goal scorer. But his passing/chance creating isn’t bad, it’s just not Benfica used him. I believe the talent is there if we want to develop him into more of a playmaker.

Yeah, in 20-21 he played more of a playmaker role for Benfica and racked up 10 assists. Hard to pin down a comp for him tbh, though I do think Torres is the closest one for me.
