Maybe but PSG thought they'd have Mbappe another year. They knew he was gone but not until next summer. Him moving to RM changes the calculus completely. If you can replace Mbappe with future Mbappe this summer, you do it.

Oh, I'm not saying PSG wouldn't love to do that deal – I'm saying Dortmund are not going to sell Haaland. Or at least I doubt it.

They'll fuck it up. Do you not remember last year?

Oh I don't think they'll challenge for the CL spots, I just think their trajectory is much closer to that than Arsenal's.

And the best example of a team that fucked it up last year is Leicester. They had CL in their grasp and completely choked.

Meh.  These things tend to even out over time.  All of the big clubs have had bad stretches.  You could have said the same thing about Liverpool during the 6-7 years before Klopp arrived.   I think its likely that Arsenal corrects at some point and reverts to the mean (likely finishing 3-5 in the table most years).   Similarly, I think LCFC reverts to being a consistent mid-table team at some point, and Spurs is already headed in that direction (and will get there quickly if Harry leaves).

Liverpool got out of it because their shitass owners were forced to sell. FSG took over and have been, by and large, good stewards of the club.

Stan Kroenke is also a shitass owner and but he is unlikely to be parting with his majority share of the club any time soon. As long as he's involved with the club, it's hard to see a way out for Arsenal.

Spurs seems like a funny example to give at the moment, considering they've taken six points from two difficult matches and have a very good manager. Jury is a long ways out on Arteta.

End of the season.  I don’t see them doing it mid season. Partly because, who do they get next?  Is there a decent replacement available?

  5. That was a very satisfying win. In years past you'd dread the thought of an early kickoff vs Burnley but we came out firing, got an early goal, survived a few scares, and finished them off like professionals. With a couple of notable absences – Fabinho, Ox, Robbo – we played about as well as you could expect. Matip is such an impressive player, perfect for our high line. Obviously he's eternally frustrating with his constant niggling injuries but it's incredible how he can just come back and show absolutely no rust, no matter how long the break. Would love for him to stay fit, somehow.

I thought Naby was great and I'm really happy to see him make it through 80+ minutes. Think he's got a firm grip on a spot in our midfield right now.

Tsimikas is a fantastic player and could legit push Robbo to the bench for a few more weeks. Robbo could use an extended break after playing basically every minute last year and then having the Euros this summer. Let him fully recover and come back completely refreshed.

Elliott looked the part today. There were a few times where I wish he would've been a little more selfish rather than always deferring to the senior players, but in what was more or less a full-on debut, you could not ask anything more out of him. Wish his would-be assist would've counted. What an exquisite ball he played.

Eh, it was pretty well off though. Mane was way off when the ball came in from Elliot. It wasn't a shoulder or foot situation.

They called it on Salah though. Not egregious and certainly not as bad as some of the calls last season but it was pretty damn close.

He's on relatively big wages £200k/week and Spurs aren't likely to sell him cheaply. The Athletic doesn't think he has a lot of options.

Strange situation, at least from an outsider's perspective. Really thought he was gonna come on and be a great player for y'all. I originally chalked it up as just a guy who couldn't stay fit but seems like it's more than that, given that he's now had three managers (well, two + Ryan Mason) at Tottenham that he can't get a game for.

  8. Not that I think he has a future at Liverpool but damn if Woodburn wasn't impressive when he came on against Osasuna. Easy to forget he's just 21 since he made his first-team debut five seasons ago.

C'mon Stevie, give us like £5M for him. He'd be great at Rangers.

  9. Leighton Clark is off to Blackburn on a season-long loan. Hopefully it works out as well as Harvey's loan there last year.

Ben Davies – who apparently exists? – is off to Sheffield United, also on loan.

Wolves rumored to be interested in Origi. Still nothing concrete on Shaq and at this point I feel like we should just keep him. Lyon's offers so far have been insulting and he's a good guy to have around training with the squad.

  10. I certainly wouldn't write City off after one match but I'm not sure why anyone things they're gonna run away with the title. Aguero, while unreliable in terms of injury record, was at least a recognized #9. Without him, they currently have no one who can play striker, or at least play it well. Jesus is either going to be sold or will be a locker room cancer. KdB has had a lot of injury problems the last few years and I don't think Grealish really adds anything to their team. Foden and Mahrez are both better players, though Foden is always hurt and Mahrez can't seem to get in Pep's good graces long enough to cement a starting role.

Again, it's early but City looks about the fourth or fifth best team in the league to my eyes. If they sign a #9 it could all change quickly but I'm not sure that they'll score enough goals to challenge for the title.

  11. I've actually come around to the idea that, for this season, we don't really need any more signings. I worry about CM depth, as well as Trent's back-up, but after watching the two friendlies at Anfield, it's pretty incredibly how talented we are 22-deep. The caveat of course is whether or not guys like Ox and Keita (and to a lesser extent Thiago) can stay fit but I'm pretty bullish on our title chances this year.

Wasn't my thread title idea - fucko. I try and arbitrate and lead discussion over there mostly.

Nice chippy start to the year here, though. I like it.

And seriously - if you're so fucking offended go win it next year.

Ah, sorry. We were way off. You're actually the Chelsea Derka.

He's the one who titled their thread "TUCHeL our balls, hoes" so this story absolutely checks out.
