I propose a third category called purgatory. Anyways I'm off to fap in the shower. BnB I'm staying in has one of those hand held shower wands if you know what I'm saying.

55d 9h 52m 22s  into 2020 and absolutely no sign of getting laid. Huzzah!

    NowThis?  That you?

  2. There are still tickets available for the Exes tailgate - I think it is $30 which includes food and beer.  It will be in the Green lot.  Link is:

They have chartered three buses from DC.

The Green lot is right by the stadium and it will be filled with tailgaters.  Bought tickets to the Exes tailgate last time but the trailer broke down on the way to Morgantown so no tailgate in '17.  We ran into another group of Texas folks and they let us join them and shared their food.  This year, we'll be driving in from Northern VA and we're hoping to get there around noon for the 3:30 game.  My son and his two roommates are planning on bringing their own grill and we'll be cooking something up.  Any Surly folks out there are welcome to join us.  We'll share what we have, or if you have something you want to throw on the grill you're more than welcome.

For anyone driving, WVU is still selling parking passes for the Green lot for $40.   From there, it's a short walk up to the stadium

Debating driving from Harrisburg to this but WVU games aren’t pleasant for outsiders. They truly hate Texas, it’s bizarre.

I’d guess 98% of Texas couldn’t label Morgantown on a map.

We went two years ago.  No issues - everyone super friendly.  Of course my son is a junior there and was with us wearing his WVU stuff so we might have gotten a pass!  Even then, none of the Texas fans I spoke with had anything negative to report.  In general, I've always found the WV people to be really nice and friendly.  I don't think there is the level of hate for UT as other schools such as Pitt.  Even OU is higher on the hate level than us after what went down with Mayfield a few years ago.

The DC Texas Exes will be tailgaiting in the Green lot right by the stadium.

  4. Hey @immamac.  Just got an email saying my account has been locked due to 5 failed sign ins.  I was on tapa at the time and wasn't trying to sign in - was already signed in.  Went back to my laptop and was still logged in there too.  I didn't click the password reset link in the email for fear it would give my computer the AIDS.  Seems everything is fine with my account even though the email says I can't log back in until this afternoon.

I don’t agree. Their defense sucked against the spread.  They almost lost to Louisiana Tech and the Ole Miss team we smoked by 33 on the road.  They would have played offenses like that every week in the Big 12

Also, even if they run the table in the Big 12.  That means Alabama doesn’t have a loss.  And they ain’t getting in over an undefeated Notre Dame and an undefeated Alabama.  No fucking way.

Bottom line is they would still aggy it up.

They obviously stage the area, but the don't bait the area. There are plenty of episodes where they don't hunt or trap anything and struggle to finish. As far as the drama goes, they obviously pair up loudmouths with committed survivalists. That's probably what would happen in a real survival scenario. I'd love to be stranded with Les Stroud or Bear Grylls, but that probably isn't going to be the case. It could be a lot faker than it is.

Les is the best.  You missed your chance though - he's done a fan challenge in the past (can't post the link but it's Season 7 - ep 1).  Would love for him to start making episodes again.

  7. That said, what items would you choose to bring with you?  Seems they give every team a machete and usually a fire starter these days, so I would go with bug netting if anywhere in the tropics/jungle.  Seeing those people getting eaten alive by the bugs makes me want to stay inside.

I know lots of people go with a pot but I figure I could find something to use in its place (coconut shell, bamboo, etc...).  Fishing line rarely seems to work. (Although the duct tape one seemed to be pretty useful too.)

  8. Don't get me wrong as I actually like the show, but there are lots of stories out there from past contestants showing how the show is not exactly "hands off".

Filming locations vary from episode to episode, and while some are more isolated than others, the contestants are never really alone. They are constantly followed by cameramen, producers, and medics. While the contestants are generally left alone at night, the production camp is within walking distance and earshot. Prior contestants have explained that they are given a radio and a whistle to signal for help if they need it or can't make the walk to the crew's camp. Additionally, contestants occasionally come into contact with local residents. Honora Bowen, a Season 3 participant, revealed that there was a town only a few miles from their filming location, and not only would they hear the local DJ playing club music long into the night, but they would frequently encounter locals playing soccer on the beach or swimming in the lagoon.

There's also a medical team on the set in case of emergencies. While this should be expected of a show that deprives contestants of food, sometimes producers neglect to include footage of medical interventions performed during the course of the 21 days. In one prominent example during the show's premiere, contestant Kim Shelton suffers from severe food poisoning after eating a turtle. She's shown sleeping and vomiting for three days, before miraculously making a recovery on the fourth. What they don't tell you is that her recovery was hastened by the producers providing her with bread, rice, and baby food, as well as medics giving her two intravenous drips of saline to rehydrate her. In the same episode, Kim's partner, Shane, is portrayed as weak and seen constantly complaining about his painful foot. The showrunners chose not to reveal to viewers that Shane had actually broken three toes, causing the excruciating pain.

While Naked and Afraid likes to portray contestants as only eating what they can hunt or gather, that's not always the case. On several occasions, stars have later admitted to stealing food from crew members or local residents. One contestant claimed to have scavenged chocolate, salt, and even some Campari from a fishing hut she found. When the same contestant later appeared on Naked and Afraid XL, she said she was able to steal some packets of "Emergen-C" supplement and shared them with her team. Additionally, in a Facebook conversation allegedly between XL contestants Dani Beau and Shane Lewis, Lewis claims to have stolen several pounds of food during his last few nights on the set and later stashed it for his teammates Jeff Zausch and EJ Snyder.

What about the DE from Pleasant Grove who we just had in?  He was 6-5 as a freshman, I think he is 6-7 now, and IIRC, @markstanco was saying his dad is even taller.

I believe his dad played basketball for aggy.  That being said, he's been to our campus multiple times. Also - he's only going to be a junior - so class of 2021.

Wait you only need a 1480 to be MENSA? Pretty sure my parents would have disowned me if I got less than that.

EDIT: Just checked because I found it hard to believe. Turns out it's even lower. 1420 puts you in the top 2% of a nationally representative sample. A 1470 gets you in the top 2% of SAT test takers.

You can't use an SAT test result to qualify for MENSA unless it was taken before 1994.  SAT is an aptitude test - not an IQ test.

There is a lot of talk on the Arkansas boards about Henry struggling to get in because of the SEC math requirement. It's kind of odd that the other two schools in the mix are Ole Miss and Arkansas.

The Ole Miss side seems to be a little more confident about Henry getting in than the Arkansas side does.

If Henry signs with Ole Miss or Arkansas and can't get in what's the next step?

I would assume it would be similar to senor Lampkin when he couldn't get into UT and was therefore released once school started to sign with OU.

  12. Got my 5 in today just before the snow hit.  Looking at 5-10 inches so my neighborhood trails will be off limits for the next week or so.  Have a treadmill but hate running more than 3 miles on it.  Going to be a long next few days of running inside.

have you ever done a marathon?  that might be a goal to consider.  a half marathon would be very similar to the 10-mile race you're looking for.

Never done a marathon.  For that matter I've never really had the desire to do one (assuming I could even get in shape to run one!).  Could probably do a half marathon if I set my mind to it.

I was in pretty much the same boat. Last September my bathroom scale spoke to me and said "Damn, boy you're a fat-ass".   Started walking then running.   I completely second the  recommendation on the Hal Higdon (free) training programs.  I did two marathons using those a decade and a half ago, and am using one now for my training

Goals: Austin Half Marathon   (Feb 17th),    Paris Half Marathon (Mar 10th)

I think the Paris half marathon would be pretty cool.  The 10 miler I am training for goes from Mt Vernon (George Washington's house - not small East Texas town) up to Old Town Alexandria along the Potomac.  It slightly downhill for the first two miles then relatively flat for the rest of the race.  One hill with about a mile to go.  Of course I'm not setting any speed records on any of my runs.

  14. So I have been lurking on this thread for quite some time and want to thank everyone for the motivation it has given me over the last few months.  Was living a really unhealthy lifestyle - no exercise, eating and drinking way too much.  Back in the fall I got motivated and started running again.  Over the last 10 years, I would try to exercise, but it never really lasted for one reason or another (mostly just due to laziness).  So far it has stuck (4 months now).  At the same time, I pretty much cut out out the booze (was drinking about a bottle of wine every night) and started watching what I eat (I work at home so just cutting out the snacking during the day has helped tremendously).  So fast forward 4 months, I'm down 35 pounds to 200 and would like to lose another 15-20 pounds.  Went to the doctor for standard lab tests and the results were already a ton better than the last time I went in.

Anyways, running has always been my preferred choice of exercise.  I've started a runners thread on the Hobbies board.

Anyone else out there running to lose weight or get/stay in shape I'd love to hear from you over there.

  15. So after following the Body transformation thread for quite some time, I decided it was time to get off my ass last fall and start running again.  For the last 10 years or so, I would take it up again, drop it for various reasons (laziness being the main one).  My weight ballooned up due to my affinity for alcohol and food with no significant exercise.

So anyways, been running for about 4 months now.  My goal for the new year is to log 1000 miles.  I'm currently averaging between 20-25 miles a week going 5 days a week.  Would like to get into shape to run a 10 mile race in April.  Figured I would start a thread to provide encouragement and motivation for any runners out there and to discuss any topics related to running.  Anyone else have any goals for the year?

  16. I'm sure IF you can get through they'll gladly change things for you.  Couple of options you might try - send a DM through twitter.  They're usually very responsive and can take care of stuff like this.  Also try 800-446-7834.  Its a number they sometimes put into service during overloaded call center volume.  Lastly, if that doesn't wok, try SKYPE and call one of their international reservation centers (e.g. Australia, NZ, Hong Kong etc...)  I've done this to book award travel that US call centers couldn't see so they might be able to cancel out the first flight for you.  Good luck.  Here is a link to overseas call centers:
