  1. I'll add the people who are way too into shit like craft beer or dinner presentation for their wife on a Tuesday.

Anyone that uses “undertones” or “notes” when describing a drink of any kind.
I don’t give a shit that your beer has undertones of hazelnut. I really don’t.
  2. Draymond can get dysentery any time and I’d have no sympathy.

Guys like him who let their frustrations get the best of them on the court that led to every fight I ever saw on the court. Bullshit extra pushes meant to intimidate always ended up with someone leaving pissed off and bleeding.

  3. Any recommendations on selling our current car (or getting the best price)?  I already went to Carmax and when I told the Momentum dealer that he said "yeah, they're going to do better than we are."  Any other places we should check to make sure we get the best trade-in price?

Check the blue book and sell on Craigslist / any use car site. Your price will be less than any dealer listing. It’ll sell in two weeks if it’s worth buying.
  4. Peaky Blinders is still Awesome.  The guy who played scarecrow leads a post WWI gang to the top of the crime world.

    Longmire.  Present day western.

Mindhunter. FBI learns that serial killers are a different breed. It grows more interesting as the season moves along and ends strong.

Frontier was a pass. Aquaman actor takes on the trading companies in the new world.   Didn't make it through the first season.

Ozark.  Jason Bateman does his best Heisenberg as a strait laced investor starts laundering money for a mexican cartel in the hillbilly land of the ozarks.

The Killing was an AMC series and is on netflix.  Kind of a frustrating watch, but it has its moments.

I'll let you know if it picks up any steam a few episodes.

Anyone here watch the Will Smith netflix movie "Bright"?  It looked like it could be complete shit or really fun...

Bright was not good.  I'm a fan of alien nation (the original TV series) and a fan of will smith movies which to me are usually very funny.  This movie never got me on board.

Godless was pretty kick sass if you like violent westerns.

I concur.  My expectations were low, and it is no Deadwood, but pretty good.

Altered Carbon was a pretty fun watch as well. Very cyberpunk.

I liked it a lot more than I thought.  I had low expectations because the main actor was in The Killing and I didn't buy him as a great actor.  But the show was good.

    Daredevil, JJ, and Punisher.

This is the correct answer.  Luke Cage wasn't far behind.  The iron fist was awful and the defenders wasn't much better.

  7. RE: VA loans, if you have a disability rating of at least 10%, it can cap some of the closing cost fees.

“You do not have to pay the fee if you are a:

Veteran receiving VA compensation for a service-connected disability, OR

Veteran who would be entitled to receive compensation for a service-connected disability if you did not receive retirement or active duty pay, OR

Surviving spouse of a Veteran who died in service or from a service-connected disability”

Not so trivial but we’re fine taxing the shit out of booze and cigs, but even hint at a soda or sugar tax and people lose their shit, even though that’s the shit that’s killing us and helping our healthcare costs skyrocket.

Its a tax on the poor.

  9. I have tried Lore. I like tall tales and urban legends but he can’t pull it off. I Tried a couple times, but his voice sounds like he’s using a robovoice to read written script.

I started listening to movie crush by one of the stuff you should know guys. It’s mildly entertaining.

  10. As a final to my original post, I did upgrade my receiver after all. I got a denon AVR-X2400H for $399 from Frys. More 4K HDMI inputs than I’ll ever need, WiFi and Bluetooth and a very easy to use interface.  The Audessy auto adjustment was easy to run  it came with a mic with a cable long enough to reach the couch.

If anyone wants my pioneer VSX-1020k, I’ll get it to you for $50.

  11. Last year, I found three used avalons that were two years old at the toyota in south austin.  Close to 40k miles.  They were lease trade ins, all in great shape for a really good price.  The salesman was trying to work in all the usual questions.  I kept being vague.   I ended up buying a honda so I didn't have to do the full wheel and deal thing with them.

So I'll give my used honda experience.

At the time I was considering nissan, honda and toyota.  Carmax allowed me to test all the models I was interested in. and narrowed to a honda accord.

I did the background and learned the different trim levels for the years you are willing to buy.  Identify which ones you are okay with and which ones are non starters.  For me it was a 2-4 year old car with under 40k miles.  I crossed off the two base models.  I then used the sites available and got an idea of prices.  That gave me a range of prices based on the trim and year.

I went to the howdy honda place in south austin (I live in pflugerville and work off lamar in austin) and asked what they had and their prices.   I was fully prepared to leave if nothing was in range.  I was going to have to drive by at least one other dealer on my way home so I wasn't going to be going out of my way.   I already had a caravana listing that would work if they didn't have anything.  I fully anticipated not buying a car.  Then it happed.  They had a model with less than 20k miles and their price was less than what I would have expected on KBB, they bought my truck for more than KBB.  No haggling.

If I was going to leave a number with anyone, I wouldn't do it on the first visit.  Tell them you'll be back when you have a better idea of what is available around town.  If they push, flatly tell them no.  The last time you shopped for a car, salesman pestered you long after you were done shopping and that's not okay.  Get their card.  Use their number/email to negotiate from home.  If you get to negotiating, use a burner number via google voice and/or email that you can delete when you are done dealing.

As for the buying side, their salesman, err Finance Manager, tried to sell me a warranty "We do so many loans with your credit union, we have a warranty for cheaper than anyone else..."I told him "I was just sold on a car because it was reliable, are you telling me I am not buying a reliable car" and he started to respond and I cut him off.  "No warranty. I want to leave"

Anyway, I have given up on getting the best deal of all time.  But I have also given up on trying to get the perfect car/truck.
